Thank you for the great video! Question: do the turkeys need any vaccines while you raise them?
@HeiferUSA2 жыл бұрын
yes, they come vaccinated from the hatchery for common illnesses in our area.
@migueldecarvalho80123 жыл бұрын
I have a question. If I understand correctly, you produce 3 batches of 500 turkeys each. Can the second batch graze/range over the same area where the 1st batch did? How much "rest" should an area have between consecutive use by two different flocks? Your videos are very informative and enjoyable. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@HeiferUSA3 жыл бұрын
According to our Grassroots standard the schooner must not pass over the same area for a minimum of 60 days, but preferably not passing over the same spot within the same poultry growing season (February-November). Here at the Ranch we have enough land that allows us to give our pastures a rest for 1 year before returning our schooners to the same area.

@HeiferUSA2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, and that's a great question! Where we raise turkeys in Central Arkansas (United States), vaccines are often not necessary for raising poultry. Different regions or countries have different diseases for livestock, so make sure you research vaccine requirements for your area!

Why do Turkeys have to be day ranged and chickens dont. I know you raise cornish cross chicken but are there other chicken breeds that have to be day ranged?
@HeiferUSA2 жыл бұрын
A lot of growers let their layer hens day range, but because these are broilers and we move them every single day, it wouldn't be very efficient for us to integrate day ranging for broiler chickens.
@WheretheJones2 жыл бұрын
@@HeiferUSA Thanks. Makes sense. What about the Turkeys though? Is there something about them where they have to be day ranged?

How much waste is there with poultry. Meaning when you process the bird what all is usable? Feathers are they useless? Also is the poo good for gardening?
@HeiferUSA2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tara! The percent yield of a turkey is usally around 55%. The manure is usable in a garden, but needs to be broken down/composted first. Turkey feet are usable, livers, hearts, and gizzard are usable, blood and feathers can be utilized into blood meal if you, but this usually only happens on a larger scale to make it economically effective.
