Mechanics conducting installation/maintenance/repair work on a very high tower (1,768 feet). The courage of these brave men deserves heartiest applause. The video is from the head-mounted camera of one of the climbers.

I climbed a 300ft TV tower once...on my way up ive never looked down...but when i got to the top i nearly piss myself...and couldnt move for like 10 min.........these men are not carrying tools in that red bag...they're carrying their huge balls of steel.

i've built these communication towers and was fortunate enough to have never seen any workers seriously injured or fall. But i believe had i stayed in the business it would have been inevitable. And its true that the courage a person must have to do this work is unmeasurable. I for one am glad to say i've been up 500 ft on a tower, been horizontal to the ground at 385 ft while changing a light bulb and built from the ground up, a 250 ft self supporting tower.

I have so much respect for these people. These people are true heroes and the real people that run society. Instead of worshipping people who sit behind a desk and make a lot of money, society should give much more credit to individuals like this than the CEOs who sit behind a desk and make under the table deals or the celebrities that sing a two line love song repeated over and over.

When frustrated during arguments with my mother, my father used to hang most of his upper body out the 11th floor window in order to angrily ask God questions concerning the situation. I always feared that his legs would lose their anchorage around the radiator and he would plummet to his death,.

It's very narrow towards the top of the structure, while they're still climbing inside it, so it's a matter of space, not to mention the extra weight.

Most people dismiss hard hats with the old "that's not going to stop a 5 ton tool from squishing you or falling from 1700 ft." You'd be right. Look at what their climbing on. A tower full of hard and sometimes pointy angle iron. Striking your head on a piece of angle iron and needing a head full of stitches is the least of your troubles when you have to climb back down the same tower with blood pouring down your face and getting in your eye and making your hands slick with every wipe.
@RiverWyvrn11 жыл бұрын
That's mostly caused by the type of lens they're using. At 6:20 for instance, he's looking up, which makes the horizon bend in the other direction, making a bowl shape.

Those are some brave souls. However, you cannot pay me any amount of money to do that. The Skydeck at the Sears Tower makes me nervous and standing in the glass boxes there makes me want to cry for my parents and do much worse than that. I know those glass boxes are safe and I trust structural engineering, yet my fears will still have final veto power. Bless those souls that can do that job no matter the pay.

What a champion. If I was a worker up there, I'd just keep a parachute on my back, as an absolute last resort if I fell. A chute would also provide a quick way down in case of a lightning storm or other emergency...

At around 5:10, the narrator says if there's a storm coming through, "there's no quick way down." Well, uh...there is. It's just that sudden stop at the end. Seriously, I could never do this. If the choice were between me starving to death or doing this job, I'd tell the guy, "You know what? I've thought it over. Turns out I'd rather die."

I'm not really afraid of heights, and I'm a pretty good climber, but I have to wonder if I could make it all the way up. Probably, but I tell you I'd be shaking like a leaf (and I don't relish the thought of having to *stay* up there for the next couple hours while I fix/install something). You'd have to get paid well, for sure!

It is neither a "gided" nor a "guided" tower. It's a guyed tower. Those wires holding it up are guy wires. To "guy" something is to anchor or steady it with ropes/wires/cables (guys). Wonder who originally posted this video, I'd just tell him or her if I knew.
