HEILUNG comment: “'Drif' means 'gathering,' a throng of people, a horde, a crowd, a pack. In symbiosis with the album title, 'Drif' consists of a flock, a collection, a gathering, a collage of songs, that much like little flames were seeking towards each other, to join, to bond, to create, and be greater together. This album has very clearly dictated its own path. Our attempts to tame it was repeatedly fruitless and once we came to this realization, the creative flow surged forward with immense force, so much so that sometimes it felt like the songs wrote themselves. All the songs on 'Drif' have their own stories. They have each their place and sense of belonging, with inspiration not only from Northern Europe, but from the ancient great civilizations.”

My wife had been listening to Heilung for some time and had been trying in vain to get me to listen. I'm a thrash/death metal fan but I bought tickets for Heilung for her and I to go. The show was one week ago today and.... I never expected how deeply seeing and hearing Heilung would make me feel ... and now I can't stop listening.

So many people in modern society are walking around ungrounded… feeling an emptiness that cannot be filled. This album heals the soul by connecting us all to a primitive feeling that most cannot put into words. True masterpiece. This is exactly what the world needs ♥️

I fully agree. I look into peoples eyes and they almost seem like a part of their human soul has been lost.. like there’s nothing there.. and even more so a disconnection between mother and baby as we are told they must be independent from day one.. and as adults don’t receive support we need when we need it. We have created a world of disconnection and aloneness..

It's not a concert. It's an act, a story, as you said. They can't break up the story. I've been to one of their rituals, and people were confused how they came up to the stage, and left without saying anything to the public. I loved it, I understood it. I will go again when I get the chance, every time.

Im a proud Chicano from San Diego and found Heilung when I took a deep dive into Viking history, culture and traditions. While I am grounded in my own cultural traditions, I absolutely see how this can help others heal allowing themselves to be fully themselves. When all cultures can be authentically shared with respect and love, I think we all become better people for it. Thank you Heilung for daring to be authentically yourselves, were all richer for it.

4,000 ancestors in ten generations. Hundreds of thousands in a millennium. Every one fought, suffered, loved, and struggled with us in mind today. Today, you may think yourself to be alone - but you are not. It is only very recently that we descendants of Northern Europe have forgotten this. Do not forget, and remember that it is never over. We are forever Nordic, forever Celtic, forever Germanic peoples. I'll tell a little story about blood. I never knew my father. Never knew his name or saw his picture. I lived my life and he was not known to me at all. And I was a hobo, I traveled the US for 5 years, sleeping under the stars, riding freight trains and hitchhiking. Later, I joined the military and applied to forestry school. Finally I made contact with my father, and we spoke on the phone. I wasn't angry. I asked him - what is most important for me to know? He said "That you are a Scot of the McKintyre Clan." This man had spent 40 years on the road, traveling as I had, unbeknownst to me, and his father was a nomadic sheepherder. The McKintyre Clan were known to be fantastic soldiers and above all, foresters. There we have it - blood spoke through me, as a traveler, as a soldier, and now as a forester. We are never alone.

My great great grandfather was a mountaineer and explorer. The men on my dad's side have all been gifted with that same sense of exploration and wandering. We are wanderers. Not gifted in many skills, but we all have this nagging sense of exploration that haunts us. It's hard to settle down, find a career or job I can stick with, because that need to change things up is always there. Roamers, wanderers, travelers. It's in my DNA.

After 17 years of being with us, our family cat died peacefully in our own home, without the need to hide. My mother took it really bad, I had to keep calm and take care of her, doing funerary rituals so she would process the death and calm herself. I surrounded the body with her favourite toys, flowers and treats, with two lit candles. She looked beautiful. I felt nothing for two days, repressing my sadness, and when I listened to Nesso it all came flowing. Funny how synchronicity works. It may sound silly, but thank you for helping me mourn.

Your comment brought tears to my eyes. I lost my father due to cancer two months ago, and listening to Nesso really soothed my soul. The first time hearing this song, I was in the train going to the funeral of my dad, and I understood that it was brought to me just in the right time to heal me from all the suffering of losing him. I also rencently lost my cat of 14 years old, found her dead in my kitchen, probably from a heart attack, and it broke my heart. Obviously I listened again to Nesso. She was such a lovely being and a day to day emotional support, I somehow couldn't imagine losing her. I gathered my father's and my life companion's ashes and made an altar for them, I put some flowers around them just like you did. It may seem strange but they just seem to be still alive, surrounding me with their love everywhere I go. Thank you for sharing your experience with the loss of a loved one, it really resonates with me. I hope you and your mother found a way to go past your grief, even though the memory of your fur baby will always be with you. xoxo ❤️❤️

You experienced the Shaman state. Your self was subsumed into the ether, while the "real" you did what it needed to do. You helped her soul be carried into the beyond. The sorrow that comes is payment, but something tells me you paid it gladly. Your deeds are noted. The spirits regard you well. That is a precious and beautiful thing; do not squander it. Blessings of spirit and man be upon you.

I'm far less of a stranger to death than I'd ever liked to have been in this life, so my heart aches deeply empathizing with the raw tempest of grief, its colossal swells and its stinging and benumbing lulls that must be ebbing and flowing in your life right now. I've come to recognize the immense pain as a direct mirror to the depth of love we bare for those whose living presence we've been made bereft of, that this pain in all its almost unbearable gravity at times, is in itself rooted in love and is the direct reverberations of it, of the blessing of having got to know and love these special souls during our short time here in this strange and astounding place of being we're sharing. If what I'm saying is a fresh way of beholding your grief and loss, I hope the experience of witnessing and feeling that love inside the pain which wrings your heart, and so the tears from your eyes, is helpful and healing. If my words are of no use, pay them no mind and please forgive any feeling of trespass I may evoke in saying what I have and am. There is no wrong way to grieve, and it's important to honor your grief and this process. It's okay to struggle, to feel what you are. It's okay to be a mess, it's even okay to not be who you used to be before this loss if you're experiencing that. Some people in your life may not understand, and that's okay too, and it's also okay to draw boundaries with them if they fail you or cannot respect or understand the process you're going through. Honor your grief, it is the fire of your love for those whom you will love always... These are all things I wish I'd have been told and hope can be of use. Loss often really can be a truly arduous expeditionary slog of the soul, and if its of any help to hear, know that others have walked and are walking through this figurative underworld wilderness too. I'd gladly give you a hug if you needed one right now. Wishes of deep healing, insight and growth through this painful and metamorphic time in your life. And thank you for publicly sharing your loss.

@@TuskKult ...Thank you. I've been contemplating how to transmutate this current feeling into a way to pass on anything of my own experiences on to my own children. I am still at a loss for how to process all of the swirls of emotion, but every day I wake up and try to figure out how to do what needs doing, while not losing myself in the turmoil. I'd sat with the dying on multiple occasions, but none of that prepared me for this particular loss. It's made me more vulnerable than I would like to admit. I've always seen myself as "strong" but that's a mask of sorts. I'm temporary, as we all are. What can we leave behind? What can we do to help those who come after us? It's these questions that keep me up at night these days. Thank you for your words, they matter.

Recently learned I have more Northern Germanic, Nordic, Celtic heritage and the like than I thought. Heilung peels the layers of societal norms away from my skin as if it were cut with a dull knife. @fanch22480 precisely The old vikings have only drums 🥁 and horns no other instruments. Later centuries, there came in contact with slavic people and roman Constantinopel in the south and in the North keltic tripes., flute, and pipes. vikings are more Scandinavian countries there have nothing do to with German tripes there are more related to the huns from the east of Europe. great music dont get me wrong, but there want to change the historical facts The TENET symbol is a mystical Roman pre-Christian origin and has simply nothing do to with vikings The Netflix serie Barbarians is the most wrong historical managed serie ever in the industry full of wrong assumptions and doesn't base on facts but more on fantasie

@@ChrisTenalach77777 while it is true, that this is not a traditional music in any way, but theater, a lot of the other things you said were very wrong. the scandinavian people were very closely related to the german tribes, as can easily be reconstructed by their languages and their religion and the cultures we see in archeological findings. there is no clear division between scandinavians and german tribes. the huns on the other hand basically didn't exist, but are likely a foreign word for a number of different riding cultures in the east. none of them is by any means likely to have spoken a german language or anything remotely related to it, instead turk languages or atalic languages are likely. we simply don't know for sure, because none of them can be surely identified. finally, i don't see how you put vikings and german tribes in the same age, since at the time the vikings became a thing, basically no german tribes as such existed anymore, vikings being a purely medieval phenomenon. it is very likely the vikings had a lot of different music instruments they raided, including the slaves to play them. on the other hand we have findings of flutes as early as 200 ad in scandinavia and i have personally seen depictions of lurs in sweden from at least 500 bc.

There are a couple of Heilung songs I don't like as much, but the majority of your music is some of my favorite to listen to of everything ever made. I listen to a *lot* of different genres of music, sung by boys and girls. Maria's voice is the most beautiful I've ever heard. It's not angelic. It's more like a nature spirit, either calming or empowering, and overwhelmingly beautiful. Thank you so much to you all for sharing your music, instruments and all. Keltentrauer ("Celt's Grief") English Lyrics (Or verses, since it's a poem, not a song) Idly the hills lie under the sigil of the dawn. Idly the fog moves through the valleys treetops emerging from it. STAND STILL! Legions stand at the ready, in red-silver Roman armors. Then, the sun shines across the horizon, and a long, wailing horn sounds. Again and again it does. Hesitantly first, then stronger, drum songs arise, then finally the Carnyx resounds, and far its echo reverberates. Quite a few Legionnaires force their knees to calm down. Then, the forest begins to cough them forth, first in bigger groups, then in twos and threes. Magnificent they are to look at, as they stand there, proud and well armored, in the morning light. Many helmets crowned by the boar may it be of iron, or of leather. The deer, too, on their armor, mustn't be missing, wolf and bear, they are kindred souls. Freshly polished is the shield, And with the longsword, the hero stands. On long pikes, banners flutter bravely, as, even now, ghastly taunts sound. STAND STILL! Still are the eagles on the other side, only the cloaks of the riders waft. And so, the Keltoí army gathers, calls echo back and forth, then suddenly, all goes silent, and a great warrior steps from their midst. He removes his helmet and visor, his pants, and his leg armor, too, until he stands naked in the morning grass, with only necklace, shield and sword. And as he strides across the meadow, he is accompanied by shield drums and song. Determined, he stops before the prettiest golden armor and announces to the enemy commander: "Before you! Stands the lord of the Cherusci! And I tell you, let us not spill blood in vain! Send your strongest fighter onto me. Man against Man! Only him, and me! If he wins, we shall give way. But should I win, you must leave." Silent, his opponent takes in his speech, only his horse prances and heaves, and, with a nod, death rains, wooden hornet stings, into the Keltoí's chest, and colors it red. And as he topples over and falls, a MIGHTY roar rises! It's his brothers in arms who yell there, they want to rid themselves of their anger! Thrown aside are helmet, armor and chain mail, they would have only hindered us in battle! Drums and Carnyxes sound, again, loud, raw songs of the sword! Neighing, one drives to the front, loud his cry echoes to every ear, as his adorned arm swings his blade, and the other guides his horse. "Onward, onward, my brothers! Sing the war songs of our ancestors! Drench your blades in Roman blood! For only so, the wrath of the gods shall be quenched!" Like a projectile, he rushes toward the enemy And the projectile becomes a rain. They all ride and run to break the shield wall, and to avenge their dead chieftain. Each carriage rips a hole into the wall, all which close again, there's far to many of them. Like water calms after a stone falls in, the Roman lines stand steady and unharmed. By the time the Keltoí army reaches them, the Romans have already managed, to reestablish their rows, in order to cheat the Keltoí out of victory. And heed! An enormous massacre commences! Among human sons who don't honor each other. They RIP and TEAR and MAIM each other! Soiled with blood, in the face of death, Hating one another! Once he carried on his belt the heads of his enemies, with pride, now, it's his own that rolls. And all those, who came running eagerly, are now huffing, legs lost, The one, who carried the spear with skill, is now robbed of his pretty hands and shield, and the proud chest is now suffering, under stings to the heart, and loss of blood. The waiting and taunting of the Romans has worked to their advantage. Without any chance to win, the naked hordes throw themselves into their swords. They retreat, giving themselves up to death, for being imprisoned would be so much worse. Weaker now, the Carnyxes sound, and visibly, Keltoí standards fall into the grass. Only the eagles still loll above, and the Roman formation has not the slightest dent. They stand, red and unwavering, With this, the commander is very pleased. Before him, the Keltoí leader has been dragged, He cares not even for his name. Mortally wounded the poor man, once proud, who now can only crawl before the Roman. "Ah! If only I had not grown up! Never had been born! It would have been better for me than to crawl before you, on the ground! Vale Victis! Woe to those conquered, who lie in the dust before Romans!" Now, there's nobody left to protect wife, and child, and home. The Roman eagle probably appreciates it. It surges up, and leaves a blood trail throughout the land, which to us is now known as Gaul. _____________________ You're welcome.

I listened to the album for a long time, almost without a break, over and over again. I painted during the time of listening. Then i just indulged in thoughts as they came as i listened to the music. Finally, i just let myself fall into the music. It felt like a time of shifting that you go through unconsciously. But a change that develops insidiously and only slowly seeps into consciousness. Just like aging does. It speaks to me personally partly restlessness but also acceptance of what is coming, but also steadfastness . It is somehow also familiar. Do you know the inner feeling that keeps telling you:"Be patient, it's coming. Be patient, hang in there, get through it!"? That is exactly what I often feel in the middle of some songs. Alternating with restlessness, calming down, persevering, change and then again from the beginning and a few steps further. I love the music of Heilung. Even if there are pieces that leave me wondering or do not take me along as others. They always awaken something in an honest way. That's why i like the new pieces quite a lot. They somehow just fit into the world events. Well done Heilung and a big thank you for that. Many songs move ME very deep, not just my emotions..ME!

Hardly _the very first_ song ever, people sung songs tens of thousands of years before that, but the Hurrian Hymn to Nikkal (from around 1200 to 1400 BCE) _is the oldest known_ recorded song / melody. It's hard to tell, but I think Heilung might have incorporated that melody into the Nikkal song.

I'm an American mutt from Texas. My ancestry is pretty diluted, but the overwhelming majority is from the Nordic regions. I never really gave any thought to culture, and largely dismissed it as simple tribalism - the us vs them mentality. Then I heard Aurora sing Helvegen with Wardruna, and it felt so ancient to me. I started listening to Wardruna, and then found Heilung... I don't understand Old Norse, but your music and the images speak to me in a way that I can't quite explain. It's also helped me to see the beauty in ancient traditions, and the importance that they hold for the people whose heritage they represent.

As someone who is Akwesasne Mohawk, it's amazing how similar that Heilung and music that goes back over a thousand years sounds so very familiar to chants and dances that my ancestors had and still do today, more proof that we are somehow in some way, all connected.

I saw Heilung for the first time at Red Rocks this week after my sister had seen them live and reported that "it was the wildest thing i have ever seen" and I said "SIGN ME UP!". I love to bare witness to the extraordinary and so why not this one!?! Let me just say I will be going back for more. I have NEVER been so deeply moved by a live music event in my life and I've seen some sh!t. The morning after the show, I was sitting at a coffee house sipping on coffee and something moved inside of me that I burst out into tears. I was JUST laughing out loud, thinking about how I bought extra tickets and brought my friends who were more blind to the experience than I was. They didn't know anything about what they were walking into LMAOOOOOO They"d walk into a burning building with me. I love them so much :) One friend texted me for 3 days after the show about how weird it was and wtf did I bring him to lolol

Looked up the lyrics, it's a charm to draw parasites from the body to an arrow, where the disease can be shot into the distance where it can do no one harm. It makes the second half of the song very poignant cos it sounds as though she is pleading with it to go so it can't take anyone else she cares about away from her.

I found Heilung a couple years ago tracing my Lineage . I didn't understand a word but my soul did. When I need to ground myself I find my self in my back woods listening to heilung and seeing the world through the eyes of wolf . The more I listen to Heilung the more I want to be in the woods and close to the earth. Soon I'm sure I'm going to just vanish into the forest as it is a much better than life in modern society.

Three times have I stood in a Heilung Drif. Twice in Chicago and once at Red Rocks. The most recent was barely a month ago, but time seems to not apply to memories of a Heilung Drif. In some ways the evening at Red Rocks, twelve months gone by now, seems more close than the incredible immersion I underwent at the Radius in Chicago just four weeks ago. And from nearly three years past my initiation to the Oneness of Heilung at the Riviera in those last Good Old Days Before the Plague is in many ways a continuing experience. Today, my copy of this album on clear vinyl finally arrived. I am reluctant to put needle to surface without having a gathering for the occasion, so concerned I am for protecting against decay, but now that I have paid good money and have product in hand, I am just now coming listening to this online version; I felt to do so earlier would be to defraud the great and worldwide Heilung Drif in a way. We must give before we take. Eclectic, beautiful, chilling. So obviously Heilung and so much more expansive than their earlier albums that seemed to rely on an imaginary static landscape anchorded to a single place and time constructed uniquely by each listener. This album is riskier and demands more from the listener, taking you from moment to moment, each piece constructing , or perhaps returning to, its own universe that could exist and thrive with or without the surrounding material. This is a step forward for Heilung, I am humbled to be carried along in their Drif.

It's made so well as well, right? You could really imagine the cohorts marching by double pace if you'd close your eyes. Amazingly immersive piece. Some historians say the source piece might be the best evidence of a Roman marching cadence existing during a organized march and/or a triumph.

When I first heard heilung I wasn't a fan of much of the music. But this album, specifically Asja, anoana, Urbani, tenet, nesso are beautiful, tracks. I'm now a fan. Thank you for this. My family was part of the frankish tribe, Marcomani tribe, an the other side is celtic/pictish and Nordic. So this music really resonated with me, even made me tear up a few times. Our ancestors did so much for us, we must keep our traditions and our people alive, for generations to come.

Last Song is truly amazing... Very view people in this world dive into the old Sumerian/Babylonian Magick & Spiritual Philosophy. Even more those who speak it on a daily basis or even writing poems in this dead tongue. I wonder now, how Heilung perceive metaphysically and spiritually speaking the adversarial battle between Marduk & Tiamat from Enuma Elish, in the context of primordial dark divine feminine energies. In all cases, it is a truly enigmatic & interesting song.

All I can say is.. BACK TO THE ROOTS HUMANS!! Thats our way! Everytime I listen to You Heilung, it feels like opening a VERY old photobook of mine with hundreds of 'shortcuts' from a verylongago life.. With many emotional ups and downs.. Although I mostly dont understand a word (except the Runes 😇) it feels very 'familiar'! Often I sit here (or even dance) and have to cry, because you touch the deepest depths of my heart & soul & being.. I listen for a few years to Heilung and it helped me to remember more and more.. For example: I know now why I had such a bad struggle with 'church' or even the Word 'god' and just everything counting to 'religion'.. Throu all my life... it gave me SUCH a bad feeling.. Today I know its that **** echoe from past live(s)! Thank You so much for doing what You are doing 💖 Light ✨ with You 💫 every day ✨ Gaya and the Runes shall always be with You ✨
