Commenting on that last part about pagans not being welcomed in a church. Last week I went to a concert of Sowulo in the Netherlands in the city of Nijmegen in the Stevenskerk (Church). Nijmegen the oldest city of the Netherlands, of Roman origin. If you don't know Sowulo, it's a Dutch pagan band with similarities to Heilung. It was such a strange yet immense experience. When they blew their Horns in a Christian Holy Place first it was as if pagans were re-claiming our place. Because their horns were so intimidating and we sat there with a little over a 100 people, assuming many of which who consider themselves pagan. Yet after there was a sense and feeling if connection. I remember my man and I say to one another "what a time to be alive, being able to perform a pagan show in a Christian church. Who would have imagined that for the last couple of centuries".

That's refreshing to read my friend. paganism, Christianity no issue it's the extremism that's the issue if it is christ which I do not think it is at all nor any pagan god I personally think it's something so far more complex yet simple than that but at the end of it I believe it's who you are. We are all brothers and sisters it's the love and what you do is the most important just like there are many ways to succeed in a single job. Just with life there are many ways to reach the final destination

@@MrNoncomformist Thank you for the comment. The Bible reads that Jesus was always hanging around the "sinners" because those were the ones that need saving. He believed that you needed to go to the lost. If you were professing Christ, you weren't lost. But today's Christians don't care to have the lost come to them. Most are shunned from the church. They practice hate more than love. Always bashing those that don't believe in what they do. But that behavior is in direct contrary to what is actually taught. The command was to love our neighbors, not just fellow Christians. So, that is why I would accept any pagan or heathen in my home. Hospitality is a form of love. It should be practiced more.

I whole heartedly agree! Christianity and Paganism (can/ is)complimentary. If indeed all things have their being “in God” according to Christianity, the pagan nature centric perspective shows the true power and energy coming from beyond all physical form (but not without it) that is (god) the same god that is relationship itself.

The interesting thing is that i learned more about my germanic roots as I was in germany. I live not too far away from one of the holiest sites of the druids and no one really notices around here. It shocked me as someone who learned holistic healing. Two of the last germanic tribes here kicked the romans asses but charlemange killed almost all the druids and defaced the holy sites innthe name of the catholic religion. When you study history, you get a bigger picture view of religons and what happened to the indiginous tribes in europe around the roman ages. The pagans and druids didn‘t hate any religon. They wanted to worship and live in peace, not being someone elses slaves. I think everyone can relate to that…

Unfortunately the costumes are not historically accurate. Some of the bits are taken from other cultures and then they're layered together on Hollywood fantasy/Viking tropes. Same thing with the throat singing, instrumentation, and general heavy metal aesthetics. Don't get me wrong, it's all great fun, but it's ahistorical as fuck.
@kevinhowe32805 ай бұрын
@@KelrynGrey what exactly would be historically accurate?
@KelrynGrey5 ай бұрын
@@kevinhowe3280 it gets rather unfun and this is a criticism of the listening community, not the band, as the band doesn't say they are doing historically accurate outfits or music. The black metal leaning aesthetics with smeared on paints are out. No woad smeared Norse/Germanic types. Some of those face paints that appeared on the backing spearmen are explicitly Native American. To my knowledge, no feathered headdresses or dangling face masks exist in the archaeological record either. Mixing periods in art is fine but it can be a bit like saying togas and Versace are both Italian, so mixing them is historically accurate. Historical dress for the old Norse was tunics, trousers, nice woolen cloaks for warmth. Our knowledge of their actual religious practices is almost entirely non-existent but I think the few accounts we have of the appearance of the priestly types are also more of that tunic and trousers with a cloak.
@kevinhowe32805 ай бұрын
@@KelrynGrey I've seen many indigenous tribes use the same symbols. Like our American boy scouts use to have swastikas on their uniforms. Native Americans also used the swastika. I think our archeological community has alot of trouble with this because so many similar symbols and practices were used. Maybe this eternal flame or original tribal source is what heilung is trying to tap into. Instead of being completely historically recreating the norse ritual. Idk tho

I think he has a point with Christians, however, one reason there is Christian influence in pagan culture and because we see this in the poems is because of Christian washing. We see that Christians have taken over the writing and see they insert their own ideals into things. Just a correction: actually, christianity as an "official movement" started to get notorious decades after Jesus was nailed to the cross. The first wave of followers were known across Middle East and Europe as "some weird jews that talk about a mighty _Krystos_ and they use a strange _Ichtys_ (fish) to represent him". That was it. In fact, Jesus was represented first as a sheperd with short hair, shaved and using roman-style clothing (pre Dark Ages standard attire?) and holding a cane. Seems like the "modern" image of Jesus, which is kinda not the real stuff (a very romanticized-caucasian version) started to get popular until late 2nd century. They had no phones, media nor Internet back then, so news traveled pretty slow... including new-founded religions. Lol.

Most of the christian concepts of devils, demons, and satan (anything not of "god"), come from the demonization of pagan (largely Vanic and Celtic ) gods and goddesses. Just like a lot of modern "christian" practices are christianized pagan rituals. A lot of times the Germanic peoples would "adopt" the christian way in name only (for various reasons from just adopting, to adopting to appease so they would move on, to adopting to stopping their people from being murdered and tortured). The abrahamic religions have done so much damage to Europe/Europeans (and the world), that they should be rejected just on their history of destroying cultures.

It sucks that there's some animosity between Norse Pagans and Christians. Yes our religious ancestors did terrible things to each other, but those were crimes committed thousands of years ago by people who are long dead, there's no need to hold a grudge over it. It's ancient history, leave it in the past and embrace the future

Yeh but Christianity wanted rid and was warring against Paganism...and won, so...

I understand why countries are doing this, but what a waste of resource versus all the other problems we face. Truly miserable trying to cross borders in this highly volatile world it has become.
