They use ancient languages, and interpretations of runes. They also use ancient instruments (combined with modern instruments), most of which they make themselves. They also use bones, animal skin drums, etc. The vocal thing is throat singing. If you like throat singing, you should check out "The HU", a Mongolian band that uses traditional instruments and throat singing to create modern songs. Heilung is worthy of a deep dive. Read up a bit on their approach, and listen to them. Then, just sit back and FEEL them. Don't be scared; unless you're trying to go to war against them. :) Also: Heilung is doing the soundtrack to Senua's Saga 2, and did a live performance at The Game Awards show. Thanks for your reaction.

Bit of a hardcore introduction for Heilung. lol. This is one of their more aggressive songs, at least in sound. The song is not aggressive in context though, I assure you... rather religious and spiritual, actually. (see my copy and pastes below for more info.) Please check out more. Heilung is a human and spiritual experience in the form of music. And very meditative if you let yourself fall into it. A wonderful mix of folk, metal, and tribal music! I recommend the LIFA concert, you can find it on full on their yt channel. But if you don't want to commit to a concert, I highly recommend: Anoana (theres a music video) In Maidjan (live from LIFE concert) Othan (live from LIFA concert) Norupo (theres a music video) *-per wikipedia* Heilung is an experimental folk music band made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Iron Age, and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Their music is usually about Germanic deities, The Jǫtnar, and valkyries. "Heilung" is a German noun meaning "healing" in English. *Per Songtell-* Meaning of Alfadhirhaiti by Heilung "Alfadhirhaiti" is a song by Heilung that speaks of the many names of the gods of Norse mythology. The song speaks to an appreciation of the ancient beliefs and folklore from which these Gods are derived. The song is a call to remember and remember the blood lines and interconnectedness that existed between the people of these ancient belief systems and the deities that were attributed to them. The song also serves as a reminder that although beliefs have changed over time, the love for these gods still lives on. The names mentioned in the song are associated with a variety of Norse gods, with each name alluding to a specific aspect or feature of the God in question. *per lyricstranslate -* Names of the Allfather (Alfadhirhaiti) Dripper, Greedy, Ravenous, Slippy, Swaying one Hail, Hail, Hail I dedicate to the spear, Gagaga, Gagaga, Gagaga I yell resoundingly Thought, Memory, And he's called Allfather Mighty Thuler, Wise one, Striver, Wolfspeaker, Welcomed one, Pale one, God of witches, Inciter, Cheiftain, Readhead, Hooded one, Wandwielder, Famous lord, God of the hanged, Nebulizer, Needed one, Yulefather, Evenhigh, Attacking rider, Allfather, Victory tree, Father of victory, One with a missing eye, God with painted shield, Flashing eye, Shieldshaker, Leader of the crowd, One with knowledge, Shaggy-cloack wielder, Guardian of secrecy, Terible one and Stormy one.

Words refuse to describe the "feeling" their art brings. They will make you feel found. They will make you feel lost. You won't know exactly why but you will cry. They will make you feel loved. They will make you feel..........Human. Perhaps for the 1st time. How does music do all of that to us? Maybe it's more than just music. They are a gift.

This is a rather intense introduction to Heilung. There's a flow to the whole ritual/concert, and this is a high point. All the names of the All-Father (Odin), and his attributes. It's very much a warrior's chant, but in context it's like the transubstantiation of the Eucharist in a mass. It's a mystic moment.

@thesanfranciscoseahorse47311 ай бұрын
I mean ... They were also wildly violent and abusive at times. Tribal infighting, wanton sexual assault, and slavery were norms for that culture in that time. Being "tamed" by the church wasn't a bad thing. But I do think perhaps the church if the time may have gone too far in destroying some of the positive elements of the cultures beauty and art styles. Either way, it's easy to look at the beauty of ancient civilizations and forget what caused their downfalls. The Aztecs come to mind. Several tribes had war chants like this all over the world. Most notable was the mauri tribes. Australian Aboriginals had an impressive war dance as well. The norse and germanics would do something similar while blowing horns pounding on drums howling roaring, and from what written records say, they may have done throat singing as well the name of the game was breaking enemy morale. You can do that by destroying something they care for, killing someone important or making the fight harder for them and soldiers who are scared shirtless of berserkers ulfhednar jofar jomsvikings huskarls varangians and a whole hird of angry viking at your doorstep.
