I am glad that you give this extremely exceptional Nordic group a chance. I tell you a little about its history. The group, which are two boys and one girl, have Norwegian, Danish and German nationality and uses instruments such as horns of different animals, drums, human bones, rattles with human ashes, bells, stones, all to go back to the first musical compositions that They were able to interpret 1,000 years ago, in the iron age in northern Europe. All the letters are taken from carved gadgets from the era of the Nordic iron, such as arrowheads, bows, swords, rune stones and recite poems and psalms of war, peace and protection. Whereupon and for this, heilung, which means healing in German, is in close collaboration with archaeologists specializing in the field. The languages used by heilung are several. Among them are Latin, Old Danish, German and English. They were so successful with their first album that they had to release a new live album, which includes 2 new songs. Also a video of that album live and this year they released their second work, futha, which is a much more feminine work. His first album, Ofnir, is much more aggressive and masculine. During the concerts some representations of how these ancient rituals of the iron age could be made. Also just finished the soundtrack of the video game Hellblade 2. I hope this review helps you to understand a bit the context of this musical group. I recommend this video of her concert. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmKlpH5_hZmoj68 Some curiosities. When they built the drums for the group, one of which is made from horse skin, a doctor drew blood from the three members of the group and painted the drums and some of their clothes with it. The male singer with the deep voice is a great tattoo artist and very professional. The bones the girl plays with are human bones and sometimes they have had problems in the countries of the tour to introduce them through the border from the country where the concert was held.

In Maidjan and Fylgija Ear / Futhorck from the same show is very much worth it too. Music like this (Wardruna is another highly recommended band here) comes very good when you add some recreational substances to it, like some whiskey, or cannabis. If you have a big TV I would recommend to have a muted nature or space video playing at the same time - all of that eventually blends into something pretty trippy and relaxing.

Nice that you liked it. However, the language and culture that they are using here isn't actually Norse/Viking, but proto-Germanic. It was the language and culture that we used to have during the ancient age (same time as the romans). English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norweigan, Icelandic and Faroese all used to be this langauge during this age, just like Italian, Spanish ,Portuguese, French and Romanian used to be Lathin, the language of the Romans. We used to be tribal people her in Northern Europe back then.

The "raspy" voice is called "overtone singing", or "throat singing". The song is abut men coming in by boats to raid a village, so appropriate for when you play Valhalla. Krigsgaldr means War Chant. Regarding costumes and everything else, they are not aiming for a historically accurate era, rather, they're blending in cultures and ages from Germanic and Norse, to Mongol, to Inuit, Celt, Thracian, etc. Some of their other song lyrics are based on old runes inscriptions and even Latin.

It's old norse. :) Krigsgaldr means 'War spell'. The language is only 'dead' as in not spoken natively by anyone anymore but it's not lost at all. :) Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark all speak evolved variants of it and can understand a fair amount of the old norse with some effort. Even English has its roots in old norse.

Well, among those languages you mentioned, only Icelandic and Old Norse are mutually intelligible to a great extent, because Icelandic is the closest to the historical Norse (the fact being this language retained archaic features ). Modern Icelanders don't have much difficulty reading Poetic or Prose Edda or other sagas, for that matter. I'm not so sure about other Scandinavians.
@Ahris224 жыл бұрын
@@iachtulhu1420 It's true that icelandic is much closer to old norse than the rest. Being Swedish i know how much old norse i understand though, it's harder for us to understand it when spoken but in writing it's sort of comprehensible given some time. Swedish, Norwegian and Danish ARE norse languages and as such our base vocabulary are variants of old norse words.

Maybe a little late but Maria the singer is singing in old high German. Krigsgaldr pretty much means war magic or war chant, chants that the women or a witch would chant while the men fought in battle. It was believed that it would drive the men into a rage and make them better warriors. They usually bounce around between old Norse, Norwegian, German, English and Latin for their songs. Forgot to add the part when the man is singing in English he says "And wants to have a hundred sisters in the coldest state of their existence. They may dance the maddest in the morass of the red rain" pretty much sums up the females chanting war chants while they dance in the blood of the enemies.

A language being "dead" doesn't mean it is nonexistent, it means it has not evolved or is no longer used in the culture. Latin is a "dead" language, it has not evolved. New phrases and words have not been added, phrases and words have not faded out of use. Many languages that became others are considered "dead", such as the language the British spoke from the earliest Celts to the Saxons, much of which is no longer recognizable unless you've got a really good ear. Heilung incorporates German, English, Gothic (dead), Old High German (dead), Icelandic, Old English (dead), Proto-Norse (dead), Proto-Germanic (dead), and Viking age Old Norse (dead) into their lyrics.

I think they tried to recover ancient music before the Roman invasion and suppression of Germanic cultures. The song has sounded to me like music before the legions and when the legions arrived. What did the Teutons and other ancient tribes listen to that made the Romans name their ferocity in war, "Furor Teutonicus?" something psyched them up. Look at the beginning scenes of "Gladiator". The Romans in formal positions calculating the battle positioning. The Germanic tribes are out of their minds, they cannot even stand still.

The designs you see on the drums are made from the band member's blood. As for the final moments of the song where you hear everything? I like to call that 'controlled chaos'! I love songs like that, which is why I love Chumbawamba, because a lot of their songs have controlled chaos towards the end of them. A dead language isn't as hard to learn as you might think. The misconception is in the name itself. A dead language simply means it's no longer a native language of any community (i.e. Latin). It's often confused with an extinct language, which no longer has any living speakers.

The song Krigsgaldr (war enchantment/war chant/war magic) is based on the runic text of the Eggja runestone from Sogndal, Norway. It was carved using early Viking age Old Norse. We know a great deal of Old Norse, including much of the pronunciation since much of the vocabulary, the phonemes, their quality as well as quantity (pronunciation sound values) of Old Norse were written down and analysed by the Norse themselves at an early date. This data is in no way as accurate as an actual recording but it is the second best thing as well as the best given the time of "recording". Combine that with the data of Modern Nordic languages and dialects as well as Nordic linguistic influences on other languages through the method of comparative linguistics and you can extract a lot. Heilung does a some what decent job of portraying this data. Not the best but not the worst either.
