Great performance of a programmatic piece that is always great fun to hear. It might be helpful for people who don't know this piece to know that there are eight sections (movements) in the work and they are named: 1) 0:04 The troops gather; 2) 1:44 Each soldier sings a song from his own country (and obviously each is singing his own song while every other soldier sings his!); 3) 2:38 Fencing practice (presto); 4) 3:12 The march - the Roman god of war (violin solo w. Bass); 5) 4:23 Cavalry training exercises (presto); 6) 5:27 Sad farewell before battle (aria); 7) 7:46 The Battle; 8) 8:31 After battle - lament for the casualties.

If I could "love" this I would. Thanks for doing justice to a piece that often gets screwed up by various bands -- I think you got it right!

Is it just me, or is the violin player entering at 1:48 a bit loud?

The second movement is designed to be obnoxious. Biber's intent was to make it sound like drunk sailors poorly singing without sense of tone, pitch, or tempo.

I thought it was soldiers singings their own songs at the same time.@@seandaly2211
