Just offering a piece of weird personal trivia, here....and it's not directly related to Heinz's appearance on this show. In the background of the set here can be seen an image of a security guard, casually seated. This is a direct cop (pun intended) of the cover of Moby Grape's 1969 album, "Truly Fine Citizen." The original shot was taken at the rear entry of Columbia Records' recording studio in Nashville, where MG's album was made. In 1970, I toured the studios, as part of a bus tour. The bus parked in the lot behind the building and we'd used this same access point. Already owning the album, then, I grabbed a similar folding chair and my dad took a photo of me, duplicating the pose, in the same spot. Imagine my surprise today, in seeing this image behind Heinz Burt. Great song, btw.

Agree that this was poorly mimed. Heinz certainly was not a great vocalist. Joe Meek had top musicians (eg Ritchie Blackmore) backing him and spent a lot of time, effort and money on the arrangements of his recordings - commercially to no great avail on the whole. I actually saw Heinz live onstage several times during the 1980s and 1990s. His actual voice was awful and totally shot. Yet, it somehow didn't matter. He was part of shows featuring the likes of Mike Berry, Billie Davis, Jet Harris and the Rapiers. Physically, Heinz looked good and his stagecraft was excellent. He had superb groups behind him blasting through R'n'R classics. Audiences (unlike many of those shows mentioned from the 1960s) actually loved him!

You want to hear what he really sounded like check out his 1972 love version of c'mon everybody from 1972, it's pretty dire. His records were overdubbed due to him being a very limited singer. What's interesting is how he managed to have a few hits appear as the lead in a film and carve a career out of it. He was also the bass player in the tornadoes but unsure if he played on their recordings

The Tornado's were a group of sessions players who were formed around Heinz Burt as a vehicle to push him into the pop charts. His ability to play a base guitar was limited and it is questionable whether he actually played on the recording of Telstar. Joe Meek removed him from the Tornado's and tried him on vocals but his voice was very weak. He had one hit only "Just Like Eddy" and on most recordings his vain behaviour is very cringe worthy. As for this appearance of a middle aged old pop singer lip-syncing to his own recording of when he was a teenager just doesn't sit right. He was the same age as myself and back in the day I was a big fan but controversy surrounded both him and the demise of his manager

@lifeinrussia19914 жыл бұрын
He obviously felt well enough to take the pay cheque offered to him for his performance. His state of health had no effect on his lack of concern for the credibility of his performance and for short-changing his fans and the organisation paying him. Are you saying that a deterioration in health is a good reason for a deterioration in personal standards and moral obligations? I am fed up with seeing these so-called stars ripping off those that gave them their fame and success by miming their performances. Whatever the state of his health, it still makes him a con artist.

@@D-777i - Definitely not - I enjoy music by real stars who respect their fans and don't treat them as fools. I have read reports from the 1960s, many, many years before he was unwell which criticised him for poor live vocal performances on stage and, at worst, for miming at supposedly live concerts. Looks like he made a career out of deception and taking advantage of people who supported him!
