Can you prune during the blooming season?
@heirloomroses Жыл бұрын
During the blooming season we recommend deadheading rather than pruning. Here is a link with information on deadheading: heirloomroses.com/blogs/how-to-articles/dead-heading

thank you, this is a great video to watch! Is it only the early spring or maybe fall that I can prune?
@heirloomroses5 ай бұрын
It will be best for the rose if they are only pruned heavily in the late winter or early spring. Additional light pruning or deadheading after a flush of blooms will help promote growth, but you shouldn't prune heavily outside of that late winter early spring window.

Hi, This video is very helpful. I have many of your roses. Just wanted to know if I should cut down the hybrid tea roses to 30 inches as well.I have the hybrid tea rose Francis Meilland that I got from your nursery 2 years ago, which is now about 5.5 ft. tall. Should I now prune him down to 30 inches as well? Please advice.
@heirloomroses7 ай бұрын
Good question! Yes, you can prune your rose now in early spring.
@sarmishthabanerjee10577 ай бұрын
@@heirloomroses Hi, I have pruned down all my other roses to about 30 inches. I am particularly asking you about Francis Meilland rose since it did not bloom at all last season. It just used all its energy to grow as tall as 5.5 ft. This Spring is his 3rd year. I am in zone 7a, Connecticut. So, my question is, if I prune him down to 30 inches will it again concentrate on growing tall instead of blooming? I heard that Francis Meilland grows upto 7 ft. So please advise what height would be correct for this particular rose to prune down to now. I really want my Francis Meilland to bloom this Spring and Summer as it is his 3rd year. Please tell me at which height should I prune him down so that it blooms this Spring.

Can you grow new roses from the cut canes?
@GiorgioCaracciolo3 жыл бұрын
Hi ! congrats for the video and for your webpage. One of the best i seen on the web on this matter. I have only one question, i understand pruning should happen when frost period is over; but what if the plant is visibly growing already ? should i still wait for warmer temperatures or should i start pruning ?
@heirloomroses3 жыл бұрын
We recommend doing your hard annual pruning toward the end of February even if the frost period has not passed yet as it will prepare the plant for the upcoming season as well as get rid of any disease that may have come up over the winter.

Really informative video. If I may ask. What’s would be the right time to start pruning a newly planted rose planted from the nursery pot? It’s like a metre high with a cup shaped bush on the top and just one new stem growing near the bottom that’s growing extremely fast.
@heirloomroses4 жыл бұрын
The best time to prune young rose is the spring following its first winter in the ground. This will help encourage new growth and healthy develop during its second season!

@@heirloomroses - Ben, I'm loving having discovered Heirloom Roses, have watched your videos, and have placed my first order. I have other roses. My question is this: What is the pruning philosophy during the spring, summer, and fall up until first frost. I understand your approach in early spring - but what can we do with roses that get all tangled up and full during the blooming season? Thanks in advance. (novice gardner)

I did not know what I was doing when I inherit a house with a beautiful rose bush in the front they all died after superstorm Sandy and I prune them down to the ground I only have a rose bush that's one foot high for the past three years please tell me how I can grow this rose bush higher if you can it would be great thank you
@wolvenwood5 жыл бұрын
My experience has been that one ft high roses don't survive, they eventually die - it's too short for the plant to live.

when do u cut the leaf foliage off? i see in all of your prunning videos theres zero leaf foliage being removed when u are prunning your roses.
@heirloomroses3 ай бұрын
Hello, defoliating is recommended to help reduce the spread of ailments like blackspot. We recommend removing damaged or diseased leaves in late winter to encourage dormancy. We also recommend additional defoliation in early spring to promote new growth. You don't need to completely defoliate, we only recommend removing diseased or dead/shriveled leaves.
