Robert was diagnosed with chronic meningitis that was caused by a contaminant in the shunt he had received. When he arrived at HHH, he was unable to walk or perform self-care tasks unassisted, and he had decreased memory and decreased attention.
After working relentlessly in therapy, Robert can now walk independently, perform self-care tasks, and drive. He has also returned to work!
For his incredible achievements, Robert was presented with the Medal of Independence at the 119th Helen Hayes Hospital Honors Assembly on September 17, 2019.
