This is an odd one, I really thought this is a type of diagnosing mistake. People keep getting diagnosed with all kinds of stuff including schizophrenia, BECAUSE the autism is being overlooked, since some of the outward "symptoms" means you seem like you have a mental health condition, when your just misunderstood. ADHD, Avoidant personality disorder, social anxiety disorder, shyness, OCD, (simplex) Schizophrenia, eating disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar, bpd, narcissism, PTSD, cPTSD, dyslexia and on and on and on. And even that list is a mistake. It's more likely that you have ADHD & ASD, than being misdiagnosed with ADHD because you only have ASD. You do realize that us with ASD does see thing, but it's because we can't filter out details, we have issues filtering out unimportant details of reality. We can be so exceptionally imaginative, that we can think up fantasies that is IMPOSSIBLE to tell is not real. I personally have to avoid imaging real world realistic encounters, my imagination is so real I can't tell if I imagined going for a walk or did go for a walk (Has to be an older memory, since I might be able to remember if I went for a walk yesterday.). It's a lot easier to remember something isn't real if I throw in scifi or fantasy elements into it, because that clearly defines it as not real. Also I tend to have NOT NORMAL encounters, like my first romantic relationship as a kid was with two girls and the two girls together was the ones instigating the encounter. WIth my shifty eyes when I tell the story... Most people diagnose me as "lying" or having incorrect stories. I'm so odd I attract odd?

There is a lot of research indicating that schizophrenia and autism can and do co-occur. I want to be careful that we as a community do not gaslight each other or claim to understand or directly know what another is going through. Please consider how your comment can be taken by people with this dual diagnosis.

Here is one article of many showing a higher incidence of schizophrenia in autistic folks: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33615712/
