What happened to your painting?
@phillipstroll73853 жыл бұрын
Mud isn't always a bad thing. Why do you think we artists don't clean our palettes. It's because we love the dirt and the mud. The important thing is knowing where and when to use it, and how much of it to use. That's one thing u wish youtubers would tell people so they themselves wouldn't be so hard on themselves. Let's be honest here; how often have you seen the masters like Turner paint in watercolors in bright, vibrant colors. The answer is NEVER! When did you ever see master botanical artists using bright vibrant colors. Again, the answer is NEVER! I'm not suggesting we can't or shouldn't use bold vibrant colors. Just that you shouldn't beat yourself up when it doesn't work out the way you have hoped it would. Maybe just give it another go. Consider the attempts as your rough draft. If it takes you painting it ten times until you get the result you want that's what it takes. Trust and believe most youtubers have painted the item in their video at least the times before recording. One of my favorite quotes is from Picasso. When he quoted the price of ten thousand dollars on a peice the lady said, "but it only took you a minute to draw it". To which he replied, "No ma'am. It took me a lifetime". Meaning the skill of drawing is developed over years and years of study. Often drawing / painting the same work 100 times. Monet sure didn't paint one waterlily. Don't give up.

@@raecampbellsstudio I guess I overdid adding black to my red paint mix. It didn’t look so good when I proceeded to paint with it…it’s a learning process. Art is a journey not a destination

Lovely! Will definitely paint this one. Quick question please. Using mixed media paper I’m having trouble with blending and I think it might be because I’m not letting the water soak in as you talked about perhaps? Can you give me an estimate of how long after you put the water on the paper then you start adding paint please? Also, so I see that I use burnt umber and a little transparent yellow for the beginning wash of the twigs and then for the darker value I’m supposed to use those same two and add a little neutral tint or do I just use burnt amber and neutral tent for the darker twig outside? And thank you for taking time to answer our questions very much appreciated.

A few minutes but depends on how much water. The trick is to not overwork the paper and use light layers each time

Beautiful tutorial, thank you for sharing!! Do you upload the line art and reference photos anywhere else other than Facebook? I dont use Facebook, so I wondering if I could get them somewhere else? Thank you again for the lovely tutorial!!

Hi. Thank you for your kind comment. I don’t post them anywhere else I’m afraid but if you are on Instagram then join me there and send me a DM and I can list the ones you want to you that way if that helps?

@Drans I don't have facebook, so thanks for asking something I'd often wondered. Unfortunately I don't have instagram either but that was a nice of Helen to offer. I support artists on Patreon, KZbin channels and some who host their own schools on their websites but social media (beyond YT) is a deal breaker for me :/ How about a blog, Helen? Any alternative ways to connect ?
@morgenmachen24003 жыл бұрын
Something I've done in the past is to screenshot the artists finished sketch and alter the settings in my photo editor until I get a sharp line drawing. Just thought I'd offer a suggestion in case you're in the same situation.
@raecampbellsstudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. It’s not ideal just having FB to post the drawings but I have built a lovely community there. But I’m thinking of perhaps posting them here on the community tab. What do you think? X
@raecampbellsstudio3 жыл бұрын
I’ve posted something on my community tab today. I’m thinking of trialling post of the line drawings there. Next Tuesday, I’ll try it out and see whether people like it or not. So you can just scroll over to the community tab on my channel and take a screenshot

Oh as an aside, Steve Mitchell from “ the mind of watercolor “, lovely funny wonderful teacher, pronounces those paints as “My Mary Blue. “ not sure what is correct. Perhaps their website will have the correct pronunciation? Have a wonderful day.
