Really like your films, reminded me of visiting Perrenporth, ( where an apprentice friend & family lived ), I spent one of my holidays there with a lovely lady who rented rooms many years ago. And, when I visited with my sister later on she left her sunglasses ( clip ons) in the loos that were on the car park on the sea front. Thanks

Lovely watercolour pieces… and I really like the texture you added to your third piece with the pan pastels!! I could do some Plein air painting this week…take out a sheet of white paper and I’m done. Snow is pretty for a little while, but it gets old 😂. Cannot wait for warmer days!

Just what I've been needing! I have a travel palette of Michael Harding watercolours that I've put together and I'm a huge fan of the Derwent Drawing pencils. I'd really like to be braver about loose sketching, using what I have and creating often. I have a lovely collection of art supplies (all the gear and no idea) and then I'm scared to use them in case I waste them! This video has really given me a boost and encouragement. Many thanks!!

I actually really like the outcome. We are always too hard on ourselves! Also, it's your sketchbook, it's supposed to be an experiment, be kind to yourself! And I think, as an experiment, it definitely worked. Anyhoo, it's really great to see that you're well enough to get out on what I know must have been a bloody cold morning, what a stunning day. I'm quite jealous as we're hot hot hot here in sub-tropical Aussie, I could quite gladly slip into a few crisp cold English mornings. The ones where you see your breath and the light is so joyous. I was lucky enough to receive the Derwent drawing pencils for Christmas and they’ve very quickly becoming my favourites ,I just love the range of landscapey colours. I love the idea of using the pan pastels as a base,but they’re so expensive,they’ll have to go on the back burner for a while 😂,tho I would love a few landscapey colours 🤔. Loved the splodge and scribbles, my faves,the last picture looked really good too,especially with the added acrylic.

I don’t own any acrylics and I don’t want to. Could I get a similar effect using white gouache? Lovely work.

You could get pretty similar, as long as you didn't paint too thickly (I think gouache might crack more). Apparently you can mix gouache with acrylic gel medium though, to get it thicker.

The Derwent Drawing pencils set has become my favorite set. It's actually the only set of pencils I've bought, all the rest are individual pencils. Just in the last month the Derwent lightfast pencils have started being sold individually here too so I'm waiting on a few pencils I ordered yesterday to arrive so I can test them out. I picked a few colors I thought would add a bit of something extra to the drawing set. I keep my mixed media kit in a bag a bit like yours and despite using light weight palettes for my gouache and watercolors, it's starting to weigh quite a bit. I don't use the two extra pull out pencil holders because they annoy me but I think the one that's stitched in adds extra weight and I'm tempted to cut it out. Otherwise my case is great. It's a good size and has a handy extra outside pocket on the front. Love your first two loose sketches today. When you used your pan pastels on your next sketch it reminded me of an idea I had. To keep my bag weight down, I put my gouache into a small plastic eyeshadow palette I bought from a $2 shop, and when I was ripping out the eyeshadows I wondered if it was possible to make travel pan pastel sets in something like an eye shadow box. Maybe they would run out too fast? I don't know as I haven't ever tried them, but I noticed your pans were big when you showed them a while back. I like the way you added the acrylic paints onto your last painting. I have some small tubes of acrylics I've been tempted to add into my kit but that would mean my kit getting even bigger and heavier, and it feels like the kitchen sink is already in there 😂
