When I ate it in Vietnam, I noticed that the outer layer had a bit of lye flavour, like how the Chinese add lye to the alkaline dumplings. I love this cake by the way. Time to try making some.

Hello Helen, I love your videos but still haven't tried any recipe yet. Last time I've visited Vietnam in 08' and tried this wedding dessert, it was introduced by the tour guide. Since then, never got a chance to buy it in Macau, China. I guess I will get start with this recipe cos i'm missing this dessert badly. Thanks for posting these great videos!!

Yes, cakes made from tapioca starch are supposed to be chewy, but not too gummy. If you are not familiar to these kinds, maybe you find it "really gummy". To me, it is not. There are cakes that are a lot more chewy, like "banh bot loc", and I love that texture :)

Hi Helen, I love this recipe most, not only me, but my sisters, my niece, and my 10 year-old daughter. The cakes are so colorful, they taste delicous . We made them, put in the boxes, and gave out like Xmas gifts. Thank you. P.S. Can we ask, where did you get the Korean apron? My daughter loves it.
