Helicoil Thread Repair on a KTM 250

We rebuilt the clutch master and slave the day before heading out to Moab, UT for some riding. While tightening the last bolt, the threads gave way. Just a touch too much juice. Being the day before we left, we put it back together with RTV on the gasket hoping it would make it through the trip. It held up until the last day when the clutch would only partially disengage putting the bike in gear. That was an adventure on the slick rock... It was all good though. A great trip and then fun installing a helicoil.

The best solution is a full insert but we wanted to try out the cheap Chinese option. I wouldn't put one in a cylinder head but it was fine here.

I thought taping was something you do by hand not with a drill

Drilling has always worked for me. Less wobbly and more precise especially in soft aluminum. You just have to be careful to not cut too much without going in reverse.

hello ,my bike's crankcase slot became worn.So oil is dripping.I want to use this stuff named helicoil.Is it good at high temperature s .Can it be broken or like that ?

Glad to see you are passing on your mechanical skills to your kids. Most kids now a days can’t even change the oil on a car! Hope to see more videos. How are you liking the new truck? I still have my 2011 F250 King Ranch would love a new truck but would not love the payment!

Thanks. Michael is a good kid. Always willing to jump in with his old man. The 2017 has been awesome. I had to transfer case failure to all else is great.

With this kit do you know if it will repair a oil drain plug on a 1986 kx 125 ?

Not sure. You just have to find out what thread you need and make sure you have the drill, tap and helicoil to fix it.
