Hello all, in this video I describe an alternate setup for the GoXLR for dual PCs. Its a way to get all of the functionality of a dual PC setup with a mixer, but with the GoXLR. Its not without a bit of headache, but I describe it in the video.
Follow me on Twitter if you have any questions: @ernst_blofield
I mention in the video you need to have separate routing tables between the two setups. Here are mine below so you can give that a look for some help. Have a good day!
*UPDATED 8/21/2019* - Added a Diagram to show you the wiring: imgur.com/AvYzCta
Game PC routing table: imgur.com/1Bzskvb
Stream PC routing table: imgur.com/IIOFs0E

I can see where you are coming from when you are talking about having the ability to control Line Out mix. However I feel your sort of doing a reverse mic of how everything is set-up. See, you already get all of that functionality with the GoXLR on your gaming PC, so things like your gaming PC game audio, should IMO be adjusted in game (Or with a seperate fader to adjust the volume in the GOXLR software). This is more a niche way to solve this problem, if you consider it so. Still a great video though! kudos for the experimentation side of things!

Yeah the issue with in game I find is that I don't always want it to be a permanent drop (for example cut scenes, or other things) so its just really a preference thing.

I had the same complaint, but I solved it a little different. Instead of charging my GOXLR to the stream PC, I left it on game PC and added a small midi controller to game PC. This allows me to control the volumes I'm hearing for individual apps or games, but the system out volume to the stream PC stays unchanged. This means I can mute game or app volume completely if needed, but the stream still hears it.

Hey Ernst, cool to see you utilising the GoXLR to its fullest, I’m loving mine, after all my noise problems from my previous mixer setup GoXLR is a godsend In case you’re not aware, you can use the optical input (typically used for audio from a console) as an alternative to the “line-in” in GoXLR (assuming the motherboard you’re using to the line-in on GoXLR has an optical output) this reduces the amount of analogue connections between PC’s and GoXLR to just one (line-out) which means no ground-loop noise issue since there isn’t a second line for the issue to happen in the first place, TC Helicon recommends using ground loop isolators but I think using Optical is a better way, you just swap your routing table settings from Line-in to Console Only thing with Optical is that the signal coming through the cable is much hotter than the USB (for me at least, I use the optical out from a sound blaster Z card) this is easily fixed by turning down the optical output volume in Windows (my perfect setting to make it equal in level as the USB is 67) I used a tone generator website and watched the visual level in Audacity or OBS to figure this out Glad you found a solution using the USB splitter switch thing, you basically figured out how to have a sub mix with GoXLR, I’ve been fine with just using the headphone volume control to have everything in my headphones at a different level but hopefully TC Helicon in the future make an updated device with more flexibility in that area Also from what I’ve read on their Discord they are adding an option to make the “cough” button a toggle for mic mute, this will free up a fader so you don’t need to waste one on your mic, seems like they’re really listening to feedback
@SDGolfGuy
@SDGolfGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought about that too. I figured most mobos won't have that optical, but if you have it, then heck yeah!

So instead of setting up the KVM switcher like you did I kept mine setup as Helicon states to do for dual PC setups. Then setup my stream mix to only output my system audio. Then used voice meeter to transfer this to the stream pc. This allows me to differentiate my game audio while still keeping full functionality of my go xlr(such as being able to adjust chat level on the fly). However, using voice meeter adds about a 150ms delay so you have to add a delay to your game source to correct this. Then whenever I want to stream I just open voice meeter on both computers, and when I'm just gaming I don't have to do anything.

I leave the stream PC on with GoXLR on the streamPC. Mic Comes back to game PC over VBAN at 92khz. I run Wireless headphones with line in, and the GoXLR headphone out doesn't send the game in the router table. This means I get adjustable volume surround sound to my headphones and Stream gets normalised game audio. Sure, means streamPC is on, but I record my gameplay even when not streaming.

I’ve been running a series on the gaming PC being in the cloud while the stream pc is a quiet system at home. I was hoping to do similar setup to yours but my USB over IP tool is having none of it with the GoXLR 😂

Hey there, this ended up being longer than I thought it was going to be , but hoping you'll respond because this is the closest I've gotten to finding a solution for the issues I'm having. So I have a dual PC setup, and a GoXLR Mini. I have the GoXLR hooked up to my gaming rig so I can mix all the audio, and send out what I want via the line out to my streaming PC's Line in. There are a couple of issues that I'm running into with this setup. Problem 1: I want to be able to run a track 2 for VODS in OBS for music, so I can play some music on stream but not have it in VODS. But I also want to be able to control that volume with the mixer. I can't find a solution yet, so I've had to circumvent this problem for now by also running OBS on the gaming rig and sending an NDI audio source over the network to the streaming PC OBS and just telling it not to play on the VOD track, works fine, but I can't control the volume easily without alt tabbing and stopping/starting, volume up/down, etc. Any thoughts? Problem 2: Compressing game audio with voicemeeter. I have a Zen ifi dac on the gaming rig that I want to use for my headphones, but trying to mix all my audio with the goxlr, then have it route through voicemeeter for compression, and then to the DAC has been extremely annoying. I basically have to run a 3.5mm headphone cable from the GoXLR headphone out into the line in on my gaming PC, tell my PC to listen to the line in, and then route that line in audio through voiceemeeter and then set my DAC as the hardware out in voicemeeter. I play games like Tarkov and listening for footsteps is key, and a compressor really helps with that, otherwise I'd be turning things up way too high and blowing my hearing out with gunshots without voicemeeters compressor. It seems to me that there is an easier way to: Mix all my audio channels separately, compress gaming audio using Voicemeeter, Use DAC for Headphones for gaming PC Audio. I feel like I am way overcomplicating the setup, but I just want control + quality, not control or quality. A separate issue I'm having is ground loop interference when telling either PC to listen to the line in. I have an Elgato HD60s+ on the streaming PC, and I use the 3.5mm line in audio on that to solve it on that end. But on the gaming rig, I have a ground loop isolator between the GoXLR headphone out and the line in that the gaming PC listens to, but alas there is still a very slight buzz/hiss when things are turned up.
@SDGolfGuy
@SDGolfGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Well, so big brunt of the system is to consider what limitations you have. If you ran your GoXLR on the stream PC you'd have a the whole music thing handled directly on the stream PC. In terms of compression, that's tough, as its also delayed. I don't have any recommendations there, other than an in line compressor.
@Quatakai
@Quatakai 2 жыл бұрын
@@SDGolfGuy Do you think there's a way to compress the audio virtually BEFORE sending it to the "Game" channel on the GoXLR? That way I could just plug my headphones directly into the GoXLR and listen to the compressed audio straight from that. I'd be giving up using the Zen ifi DAC (which I like using), but maybe it's possible to get a different DAC with more rear inputs so I could run the 3.5mm connection out of the GoXLR output/headphone jack into the DAC. I think the ifi is just a USB into computer DAC with no other audio inputs, which is unfortunate.
@SDGolfGuy
@SDGolfGuy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Quatakai No virtual way of doing it without latency somewhere, which is why you'd need a hardware/in line compressor (think guitar foot pedal). The DAC could still be run on GoXLR headphone out, to DAC in, but you'd have to put a guitar compressor in between the Game PC line out, and the GoXLR Line in.

@SDGolfGuy
@SDGolfGuy 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what individual volumes you're talking about that this doesn't have or does, but I think its about the idea of having everything route through physical faders, having a great pre-amp, eq, compression, and noise gate on the hardware side, then throw in the effects and sampler...I think all of those are reasons, as software mixing and such requires you to tab out of games or such.

Sounds like perhaps you have the alerts on a different output like system or music or something and not on the main channels as your music. That's my only thought. The difference perhaps is if your volume on alerts is much lower than music, thus you're hearing the alerts, but really quiet, whereas with the stream they could be much louder.

Nice video. IMO if you are going to do all that work just to have complete control over the individual audio levels of game vs music vs discord, you are better off using a physical mixer. The GoXLR is meant to be used with the Gaming PC to take advantage of its sampler, sound FX, etc.

Disagree, I have had a full mixer setup before, had all the control I have with the GoXLR. GoXLR does it in a smaller profile, less cables, and my effects are built in versus having separate effects as well. (I originally "wrote the book" on mixer setups for Twitch back in 2015)

@@SDGolfGuy No offense intended with my question about Helicon sponsorship. There are so many KZbinrs out there who pitch products for companies w/o disclosure. Great to see you are one of the good guys. For me, I would rather use a physical mixer setup IF I really wanted precise control over sound levels rather than use your special setup because it requires me to duplicate all the settings of the GoXLR app (6:05) on the Stream PC (i.e. make the GoXLR app have the same configuration as the GoXLR app on the Game PC but with a different routing table). I thought it was a solution but it really isn't. Not sure if anyone realized it. The 4 USB out will output from either the 1 in and 2 in. If the GOXLR is connected in only one IN, how does it output during channel switch? Video didn't make sense.
@SDGolfGuy
@SDGolfGuy 3 жыл бұрын
You have it reversed - its 4 in, 2 out. So you have 1 in, from the GoXLR, and it either goes to the #1 out, or the #2 out. The #1 out goes to the game PC so when the switch is in the 1 position it goes there. The #2 output goes to the stream PC, so when the switch is in the #2 position, it goes there. It makes perfect sense.

With the GoXLR you cannot, you'd have to find another interface/mixer to link that into. In theory you can get a small 4 input 2 output mixer and use that and then run the output from that mixer into the GoXLR. It would still work the same but the mic balance would need to adjusted individually from another mixer :)

Hi Ernst! When you have the USB connected to the streaming PC, is it possible to have your Microphone and desktop sound (from streaming computer) broadcasting separate out to the gaming computer, or will they get mixed together as 1 in on the gaming computer?
@SDGolfGuy
@SDGolfGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Well, if you choose to send the stream PC directly to the game PC, then yes they'll be on one line. You typically will hear the stream PC though via the goxlr directly, so you don't particularly need to send to game PC. If you wanted to send to game PC separately, I'd probably use the USB connected to game, that way mic is a line and line in would be stream PC (separate)

At least for me, it was less work than the original behringer setup. I basically turn on stream PC and hit the USB switch at the same time. When stream PC loads up it auto switches all the settings to the proper ones. Other than "figuring out" the original routing tables/USB setup, its a lot easier than you think. Especially because when I first configured the Behringer it took me nearly 8 hours to get it right (before I simplified). Behringer setup is still great, but I definitely don't think this loses out on any of the flexibility, or is more difficult. (I do think they can do a bit more with their software to make it doable with an easier config - but its not out yet).

The challenge overall with audio is that there are multiple volume controls. So check volume on Game PC, direct line in volume on stream PC. The routing of both Game PC/Stream PC routes int eh GoXLR app. Lastly make sure that the "communication" tab of audio settings in Windows shows "Do nothing." You can also try either "line in" or "mic in" type options when Realtek/Soundblaster recognizes a new plugged in line.

Brilliant, everything works so far that I can tell with all the same equipment/tables. Thanks so much! A quick question. In order for me to control the music volume separately from what my stream hears, does my playlist/music have to come from the Stream PC? I have a playlist in Foobar on my Game PC, and I assume sending that music from my Game -> Stream PC is using Line In, just like the game audio. So if I try to move that up or down, it'll affect the game volume too. Do I need to have my music library on the Stream PC in order for full control, or is there a workaround for that too for total control?

@@pickleninjastreaming8241 and I'd say the scope of what you're suggesting is a different topic of a video. I'm not here in this video to say "is the GoXLR worth it," or is "Cap card better than NDI" etc. The problem with the GoXLRs suggested dual PC setup is that your mic, game, music, discord all sent at 1 volume to your stream PC (and would with NDI too, unless you setup 4 separate NDI sources). When you adjust any of those volumes for yourself it also adjusts it for the stream all at the same time. I never want that. This setup is a way to make them all independent. And just FYI, I literally hit 1 button to switch EVERYTHING all at once, right when my stream PC starts. If you're trying to play devils advocate I wouldn't focus on Voicemeter. But the value of the GoXLR is far beyond its individual components, throw in a $10 USB switch and you get the functionality of a nearly $500 setup with a standard. A physical fader will always be 100% faster than changing in windows (unless you configure a stream deck to have it). Probably lastly, Check the date on this video - this was before everyone had a GoXLR. I bought this because I was one of the few founding people who ran Dual PCs via a mixer back in 2014/2015...This was a new way to do it with a reduction of nearly 10 cables, a savings of nearly $200, and in line effects. That value is far beyond what you might consider "Just change the volume."
