You asked for it, and I heard your calling. You wanted more collaboration builds with other FMTV owners! This one is epic!!! Bill Sands of Hillsboro Oregon, along with his son and I, build a Zero Torsion Sub-Frame, of Bill's design. You see, Bill is an engineer that wanted to build an expedition vehicle, but found what is currently on the market to be inferior or over-priced! So together with Bill and his long time associate Garrett, who is also an engineer, they banged out the most epic of designs that took over a year of development. Many late nights of designing were spent, and it really shows with this end product.
This is not the tutorial of how it all goes together, but it will give you a very good idea of what to expect. You can order your own sub-frame from the following website: www.rvglobetre... Just find the "Price/Order" link on the top of the website page. Happy expeditioning!

Yeah... shiny and purpose driven. We could not be happier with the fit and finish. And for the record, I have two "tags" on Abel this year. I am up 2-0... :-D Thank you for the parts and showing me that awesome PVC build for canopies! LOVE, love, love it!

I have seen those intakes before but most people use 2 IIRC. The reason being is that they do not flow enough or close to the OEM specs at WOT. Thought I would mention it for anyone considering those style of intakes....

459 CFM's is not enough? Well, it's an option over the double filter stack. I provided a link to the list of specs in the description.
@dflood316
@dflood316 3 жыл бұрын
It is barely enough at max RPM for the 3116/3126 or the C7 and when the filter element is perfectly clean. A second Donaldson is required because the filter element is only perfectly clean and full flowing the first day. It is not a subjective opinion, rather the objective specification of flow rates.

@@dflood316 barely enough at maximum RPM? So, it is good to go, even at maximum RPM is what you're saying? Who runs their trucks at maximum RPM anyway? And the worst that would happen is what, a loss of maximum RPM power as the filter gets dirty? Well, I guess he better run right out and go get another filter unit then.

One person should always do the measurements or layout unless you work with each other for 30 years! Just for sake of it! Nice build guys! Love those

It was a fun build that went pretty quick. The most time spend was setting up the camera equipment, organizing the tools, and laying out all the parts. After we got the holes drilled, it went together fast! Thanks for watching my friend.

Also the air intake is lower than factory so water can get in the intake at a lower level

When I saw what these guys were working on, all I could think about was how awesome this would be for the FMTV expedition community. So, I asked how I could help spread the word. It's a game changer and will help so many folks with their builds.

Thickness of the frame tubing
@HelicoolsHelipad
@HelicoolsHelipad 2 жыл бұрын
The thickness is less important than the strength. The biggest difference from an engineered subframe and a non-engineered subframe is that the non-engineered has to be so overbuilt, because no one knows what kind of forces it can take because they can't crunch the numbers. You wind up with a grossly over-weight vehicle. With engineering, you can determine the strengths ahead of time and plan for the strongest subframe at the lightest weight. These subframes can take over 12K lbs... more than you would ever want to run an overland with. The larger subframes can handle even more!

I like the adjustable four point height. What thickness of steel did he use?
@HelicoolsHelipad
@HelicoolsHelipad 2 жыл бұрын
The thickness varies depending upon the stress levels in that area.

I came to the game early in Washington... since then they have been tough on FMTV owners. I had to license mine as a commercial truck, because I haul food for the Mission. As an RV, I think it is easier.
