In this ASMR watch repair and service tutorial video, we try to fix a spinning rotor (helicopter effect) on an ETA 2452 caliber. How does the cleaning proces work? Disassembling of the automatic device module, ultrasonic cleaning (Elma Elmasonic S30H), use of an automatic watch cleaning machine (Elma Elmasolvex RM), special treatment of the reversing wheels with Lubeta V105 and reassembling, lubrication and testing of the automatic device module.
Besides all of that, you always see some handy equipment, tools, tips & tricks from The Watch Doctor. :-)

So far as I can tell this is the only video on KZbin that identifies this problem and shows the solution, so well don you. Ps. I too was a big Bergeon fan until one day the penny dropped and realised I was being ripped off. That Bergeon essence jar costs almost £80 here in the UK. You can buy 'two" laboratory grade reagent jars with ground lid for one tenth of that price! Also LUBETA V105 once decanted should be kept out of direct sunlight or better still stored in the dark because sunlight over time will degrade the chemicals which is why it's delivered in a brown bottle.

Nice job. When those reversing gears are that gummed up, I soak them in dip-away (or one-dip) first to loosen up the dried up oil. Then you don't need to clean them for so long in the ultra-sound.

When I received my Bolder expedition I noticed the rotor spinning when wound so I sent it through bolder to be fixed. It was months t get back and was fine. But I don't wear it often enough I guess now a year later and noticed it's having the same issue.

Awesome video. Thank you for posting. Thank you again. What an awesome video series. 🙏

Hey Watch Doctor! Love your videos man, I'm a silent viewer generally but I have a question. Is there any watches that use hesalite and sapphire, or would that not be feasible? I suppose it may be pointless as I know scratches on hesalite can be buffed out pretty easily, but I wondered if a thin layer of sapphire crystal over a hesalite could combine the scratch resistant properties of the sapphire with the crack resistance of the hesalite. I definitely noticed problems with it myself, a thinner sapphire crystal would presumably make it more prone to cracking etc, but just curious if any manufacturer had ever tried this to your knowledge as I can't find any evidence of such. Cheers and happy new year!

Another beautiful and informative video. You are the king of watch lubrication. Thank you for educating me on the Lubeta V105. I didn't even know it existed. I'd love to buy some, but I haven't worked on an ETA movement in about a year and I'm afraid it will go bad before I need it. I have added a Dumont #2A Tweezer to my wish list though, after watching this video. I've been admiring yours for some time. :-)

Hi. Careful with lubeta. Make sure it’s sealed shut every time you use it. If left open it spoils extremely fast. Also if you know where to use it, 9010 can completely replace lubeta v105. Lubeta v106 isn’t as necesssry as v105 and I’d argue it’s an unnecessaryexpense.

@@burritolover5082 Thanks for the tip, Burrito Lover. I did finally get some V105 for reversing wheels. I can't really say if it is or is not any better. I haven't had any problems with it, though. I do use 9010 for ball bearings on the oscillating weights. I did use a tiny bit of V105 in a small screw cap tube so I didn't risk too much evaporation loss. You're right, what was left turned to crap over time. I'd like to learn where to apply 9010 on reversing wheels so I can avoid the added expense of the Lubeta like you say. :-)

Dag Joop, bedankt :-).

Amazingly good. Is it harmful to hand wind an automatic watch? The reversing wheels spin pretty fast when doing so.
@therealwatchdoctor
@therealwatchdoctor 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Hasin, if the reversing wheels are good lubricated, it certainly can't hurt. By the way, they are made for that. Almost all automatic watches can also be wound by hand, Seiko is an exception.

I admit it: my brain is slow. I still don't understand why poor lubrication of reversing wheels causes helicoptering of the rotor. if you could explain the underlying details of this failure mode in some future video, i would be grateful. In any case, many thanks for your elegant presentations.

@therealwatchdoctor
@therealwatchdoctor 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Roberto, Yes always, and that's very important! This is necessary to be able to dry the spare parts in a rust-free manner. In the watch cleaning machine, water-free solutions are used in the last baths, so that the spare parts cannot rust after drying.

Hello Oatbaa, 2 types of cleaning solutions in the cleaning machine. In the first bath Elma WF PRO (waterless cleaning) and in the next 3 baths Elma Suprol Pro (waterless rinsing). 3 times the same, so that in the last bath the cleaning solution in surely clean. As a alternative you can use Isopropyl alcohol instead of Elma Suprol Pro. (much cheaper)
