Sort of. It's not used for pinpoint targeting of a single target like in this video. The real world doesn't let you view your rockets in flight for shot correction after all. The real world tactic is used as a stand-in for area saturation MLR artillery to suppress troops in a designated area.

There is an issue with the way the game is now, with only so few players on ground, in a confined space... The larger AO of aircraft unbalances the fundamental game. Consider if the SPG had a rear echelon spawn, in the similar fashion that the planes do currently. Helicopters are very vulnerable to the jets, but as it stands the jets are easily defeated by SPAA, as they are not operating at extreme altitude that the normally would be. We have seen the attempt to expand the ground map for modern tanks hasn't worked out either as the larger distances breaks down teamwork, leading to a single skilled tankers dispatching many opponents without the opposite team having an understanding of where the person is at these ranges. Leading to even more solo play style play.

What we need is a ground ec mode with very large maps and unlimited spawns until ticket bleed for ground units.

Absolutely agree with idea rear echelon spawn for SPG. Currently ridiculous they are spawned within 500m-1000m of caps an essentially no cover so free kills to MG’s. Consider the in game South African G6 (British) which in IRL had a minimum range of 3000m and max range of over 75000m with special ammunition including M982 Excalibur.

I wouldn't say heli are vulnerable. Everytime I play any top tier heli like ka52 or rooivalk i get at least 2 jet kills. A well hidden heli is incredibly diffcult to deal with even in a top tier jet without thermal pods. I can pop out of nowhere and shoot a manpad, if they come charging, i can shoot a manpad at right timing to throw off their aim and I can autoaim my gun on them.

I hope this didn't come to you recently. I have known this for many years simply because the entire game and it's fundamentals are flawed. Squeezing 30 or so Tanks + SPAA + planes in a square (or line in most cases today!) Of just 1,5km × 1,5km is too clustered and chaotic. Not to mention this game rewards low attention span CQB instead of tactics and long range engagements. Breeding the special kind of stupid we know today as war thunder players.

Firstly, the majority of Russian heli fleet aren't Ka 52 with electronics and stuff, but older Mi-24 and Mi-8 where such a guidance isn't present(at least for most used modifications). Hence, frequently it is actually destruction of empty fields despite known coordinates. Secondly, for used resources ( helicopter fuel, machine's price and highly qualified personel) it isn't really effective. One BM-21 Grad is much cheaper, can be maintained by conscripts with 3 month training, has greater range and higher total explosive power. Now it is even more risky due to anti-air FPV that finished 1 Ka 52 this summer. As a result, we receive very expensive, but weaker Grad. It is much more effective as tank hunter or direct fire but as it was said before, Ukrainian SAM limit such an activity to minimum unless Ka-52 are in defence

not sure about WT but IRL and in DCS on ka50 there is a system where you select the target or point with Shkval and it will show you an aim point on HUD where you need to aim rockets for indirect fire, don't even need to mess around with range.

Holy Moly, funny that this is possible now. I tried it last year with blind shooting and estimating the distance (since i saw it on ukraine war) the missiles just exploded mid air after flying for quite a time. Thanks for showing that its now possible

haha i started doing this a few months ago too, always lots of fun getting some kills like that from behind a mountain or something and seeing the enemy reactions from the rocket cam is hilarious. But havent tried it yet with the new target point creation from map, that feature will make it waayyyyyyy easier and safer now u dont have to peak up to visually place it.
