I’ve had people set the Dshk up in places where they can fire directly into the spawn point of the helicopters and destroy the, all before the pilots can spin the rotors up. It’s infuriating.

probably better that you can move it, so it doesnt become unused due to terrible placement or being a sniper magnet (someone takes your head off the second you get on it). though there probably should be limits to where you can place it to prevent spawn camping (and before someone brings up the realism card, in reality the enemy would just capture the deployment base and battle would be over, not sit back because an visible wall kills them 10 seconds later for being outside the playable area)

Evaccing after getting shot down is super fun, I got my Loach shot down by an RPG and it luckily hit the main rotor, I managed to steer her into some smooth terrain and hopped out. Thing is, I was directly behind the enemy spawn on Quang tri so I had no way out beside either dying or an evacuation. So I asked a Huey pilot, cleared out a street with an AK I stole from a dead body and got picked up.

Huge respect for Huey pilots. One time in Resort, we ran out of reinforcements and I decided to go back to the beach and request for an extraction. All my squadmates are dead and I was hiding behind a rock being targeted by VC machine guns and snipers. I used my purple smoke to let the in-bound Huey see where I was. He landed on the beach and picked me up while the VC fired on the chopper. We got out of there as soon as I got in. Whoever that pilot was, God bless you man. You saved my ass hahahahahaha.

One time I was commander from the marines in Resort when we ran out out tickets and only me and my radio man survived so I did exactly the same thing that you to get back to the island and troll the enemy cause there were like 5 minutes left to end the match. Just watched this, spent 30-40 minutes in training, you helped me learn how to fly. And indeed when you start your flights in the populated servers you got some salty people that yell at you that you can't fly but keep in mind: - They can't fly at all, you are at least trying and managing it for the most part. - Other salty pilots can't do shit apart from yelling at you, ignore them, this game needs more pilots. - KEEP THE PING IN MIND the training level runs smoother than an online server, practice slow responding landings.

@21:17 No, you don't always want to put the collective all the way up. The main problem why you and your heli is at the mercy of the terrain @20:19 is because you did. Seeing the RPM below green, you should've reduced collective enough to allow the rotors to spin faster THEN you increase collective. Another @50:12 always put to mind that if your engine is fubar'd, reduce the collective immediately. That way, if you are falling, the rotors will spin faster, providing kinetic energy to the rotors enough for you to land softly like a feather. Cause steel is heavier than fea- nvm. Anyways, this is a real life technique called auto-rotation. Remember to put it in green, if it's not, the rotors aren't going to be effective. Green = keep flying keep flying = rice not safe from you :) Oh and I'm super impressed that you brought that tailless bird back home! just... wow

I've brought a number of tailless birds back home, it's really a game of not getting nauseated and staying calm. Lower collective to decrease the rate of spin, which gives you slight control to tilt the helicopter in the direction you want to go and mostly hope you end up floating in that direction. Raise it in order to gain height, and altitude so you can repeat the process.

The problem with applying real life flying techniques to Rising Storm 2 is that Rising Storm 2's flight model isn't ENTIRELY realistic. The hueys in the game are godlike machines of maneuverability and basically fly in low gravity environments with nasa rocket engine power and are able to pull off some crazy maneuvers that no huey pilot would ever be able to do irl with zero risk of structural damage besides the 5 damage points indicated. Collective maxed out is usually fine in about 99% of cases in this game's flight model especially since rotor speed evens out with collective automatically very forgivingly.

destroyed tail, you basically just wait the heli spin until its about to touch ground, then you hold ctrl so it wont spin or at least, slow down the spinning speed.

Nice guide, I'd like to point out at 48:14 flying into higher terrain isn't fooling the game into thinking you're lower to the ground. AGL is altitude Above Ground Level, for helos, AGL is always more relevant than absolute altitude.

I learned how to enter gunner sight mode myself, but this video mentioning scrolling the wheel backwards to take over piloting duties saved my ass yesterday when the cobra pilot either died or left the server mid bombing run. RTB'd, took over pilot seat and proceeded to kill half the VC team in the same life. Also lost my tail rotor on the huey on resort and made it back to base. I’m already a fairly decent pilot in RS2 but I just wanted to see this vid to see if I was missing something and/or how good the tutorial is. As a pilot, if you are reading this hoping to become a pilot, this video is all you need. You won’t be amazing to start with, but this video is the road to success. Also, don’t jump straight into a 64 player game, go to an empty server with helicopters or the training grounds. Once you feel confident with flying then go to somewhere like Resort 24/7 to put your skills to the test. Make sure to tell people if you’re new to flying, that way they can’t really blame you if something goes badly wrong.

Another thing I recommend is to possibly start off flying the loach. You won’t have the responsibility of dealing with 6 players in a transport, and it’s good experience for flying with the great manoeuvrability. BUT don’t play more than two matches in the loach, as it is much different to all other Helis and can take some time to adapt. Best idea I can think of: learn the tricks and the tips using the loach, but exercise those tips and tricks on the transport heli. Don’t even go near the cobra until you can take off confidently, land confidently, hover, cruise, all that jazz. Cobra is a different animal to deal with and is hard hitting, very stiff and generally only piloted by experienced pilots. Beware that if you are the gunner of the cobra and the pilot gets shot, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY TAKE CONTROL! If you accidentally get rid of the little co-pilot HUD, you can just scroll outwards (front of mousewheel to back) to regain control. And please for the love of god alter the default pilot controls, they will fuck you up long term.

Advice at 44:20 is outdated btw, Deshkas now spawn in locations where you can pick them up and place them wherever you want. They can also move them whenever they want. So really, you better get good at gunning or ur gone have a bad day.

I've never heard of the UH1 Gunship referred to as a Bush Ranger. I've heard it always referred to as The Hog . That's what my dad, a Vietnam US Army combat vet, called them. He called the transports Slicks. Thanks for the information since it appears to be the name the Australians gave it.

Oh, about the SAM part, the technique that helicopter pilots used (and still use) was Nap-of-the-Earth (NOE) to make themselves undetectable (That's if you use the terrain to your advantage and hope that the damn Victor Charlie aren't holding MGs or RPGs). In my opinion, you need to practice NOE before you do it cause at that altitude, you're going to get lit up like a Christmas tree or get clipped by a tree.

Hey Hex this guide has helped me a ton and I am now pulling off some good landings and flys. The only things I have to ask is to go a little more in depth about landing and keeping the helicopter moving around an axis. Such as when to hit your collective and what keys you are hitting etc

@@Hexdk Hey man so I found a setup that helps extremely well for strafing. Tail rotor controls on A and D, collective on W and S and pitch and yaw on mouse. Its the same setup on BF4 and I can now strafe decently. I wanted to let you know!

21:15 I think its better to turn the collective 3/4 all the way up (at the first line), if you turn it all the way up, the rotor gonna lose its torque (look at the gauge with R) and thats why you lost altitude and bump into the hill
