Heliography process by Nicéphore Niépce: "The first Photo, exposed: June 13th to June 22nd, 2023"

In the year 2026, we will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the first photograph. For this special occasion, I have initiated a series of heliographs to honor Niépce's experiment from 1826. Heliography made in a process developed by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in years 1822 to 1826/27. Each work is unique and due to the imperfection of the technique, chance creates its own interpretation of reality. The first surviving photograph known as "View from the Window at Le Gras" was probably exposed for several days. This historic photograph marks the beginning of photographic technology and is considered a milestone in the history of photography. Was wondering why the final plate looks negative as opposed to Niépce's photo? Does the plate look like a positive photo from a certain angle?

Depending on the viewing angle or the incidence of light, the image appears either negative or positive. This change is very subtle and difficult to reproduce digitally.
