considering how popular the hobby is , and how many people of the general public will turn up to look at a toy trains exhibition , I think we should have a series on TV ! considering the dross that's on at the moment cooking / dancing / dating ,soaps etc etc etc .............................plus all the American stuff .......don't get me started .

Hi Jennifer. I didn't realise how small the Lynton & Barnstaple locomotives were. I have several and a lot of coaches and other rolling stock but I haven't started to build a layout for them as I have run out of space and have been focusing on my large collection of "OO" SR/BR stuff. One thing I did find was that the couplings are very small and were loosely packed and I was lucky that they didn't end up on the floor. I enjoy your videos and I may even buy the Baldwin 2-4-2T when it comes down in price as I have not seen it below £220. All the Manning Wardle 2-6-2T's I have bought so far have been below £190 and a couple were about £140. Thank you for the very entertaining and informative videos. Ian Cooper.

Being someone who likes Trains, and likes Thomas & Friends, I made sure to have one of my Original Characters based off the Lynton & Barnstable Manning Wardle locomotives. My OC’s name is Lawrence, but his L&B name was Sto. He was built in 1898, and in 1899, he was shipped to the Island of Sodor, and his current home of the North Sodor Railway. If I am to buy a Heljan L&B Manning Wardle, I will want to have it in a specific Apple Green livery with Crimson Lining with white Borders, and weathered.

LYD was outshopped in August 2010, the BR livery was applied by Glenn over the November of that year with the Southern Green being applied following a couple of photo charters over the Winter of 2010/2011.

If you had an aircraft hangar or large barn or similar >407 meters long, you could model the entire Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in 009 scale.

Fantastic informative video. They really are beautiful little locos. I started a 009 layout with the intention of running smaller chassis locos but after buying one of the first generation of this type ,pulled up all the track to change to less aggressive curves and changed the points to allow it to run . I look forward to seeing you start your new layout. All the best.

If you don’t have the space for a full circle of track you could run it as a point to point layout with the new decoders Jenny will be doing a review on. You could have a small heritage rail running next to your OO layout.

These look amazing, you just take one look at them and it makes you think about doing a 009 gauge layout or adding a 009 gauge layout to a OO Gauge layout, sadly no room for it :( but this was a great review.

Also just a reminder the Replica Lyd which actually Lew, was built at Boston Lodge on the FR in 2010, so no chance of it being running 20 odd years, or more and I might also add the Original Lew which was the only loco which did not get scrapped on the L&B was sold for use in Brazil, however that is a debate on its own, as when the loco had finished taking up the track on the original L&B, and left Barnstaple Town/ L&B it went to Newport Docks, I believe and was put on a ship, however the shipping records were lost in WW2, so we dont really know what happened to Lew, however as you say she is probably scrapped long by now but, however we don't know 100%, some say she's still their, the original Lew was the final Engine Delivered to the original L&B, in around about 1925 ish

Given the weight and detail I can now see why the RRP was so high. I wonder if people would go for the Four Be One concept in 009 scale? All wired up and track laid?

I chose a Nice Heljan L&B Manning Wardale No E188 Lew in SR Green for Xmas, sadly the Crankpin went on it so I am awaiting a response from Rails Of Sheffield with a Replacement Lew, as My Narrow Gauge Line in My 14X10 Loco Shed 00 and 009 NG Line, is crying out for at least 1 L&B Manning Wardale, as My Narrow Gauge line is looking pretty L&B Esk with the expectation of a TR/ FR Slate Mine/ Quarry and a derelict line which goes into the mine

They Are lovely models dont get Me wrong, but I am disappointed with the Crankpin Issues on the Manning Wardles, I wanted Lew and when I got her in the Mail Every time I went to run her the Crankpin would detach and in the end, I gave up and got a Bachmann Baldwin, since then I have picked up a Heljan Yeo, and touch wood so far I have not had the crankpin issue. However one thing I can not understand for the life of Me I have a Heljan Lyn in the S.R Green and the model is perfect absolutely no problems with the model what so ever, but why can Heljan do the same with the Manning Wardles ?

Beautiful looking. Runs beautifully. On straight track. However, mine will not negotiate PECO points. For a loco "developed in conjunction with PECO" this is unacceptable. It's a £200 ornament. I'll never buy another Heljan loco.

I had one of these and in the first 20 minutes the piston rods began to fall of, may have been first batch, but I had to send it back gutted.

I think the first batch of these have lots of problems.the one I bought online had problems with valve gear assembly,connecting rod holding piece,over gauged center drive wheels,hardly revolving trailer wheels and volatile valve gear guards.Both of them were twisted outward and got broken when I tried to fix the problem.Finally I had to return it to the seller for repair as the plastic holding pin of connecting rod broken while on a run.I hope the latter batches are without these problems
