Maybe in life, Sir Pentious was a general who died after abandoning his comrades in war. That's why he was sent to hell, as a cowardly snake. The way he constantly treats his EggBois as expendable and doesn't seem to really care when they're UNTIL he begins rehabilitation. His true redemption came when, instead of standing above the battlefield in a relatively safe space and commanding everyone else to fight, he changed his ways and realized he didn't want his friends to die. So, he put himself on the front lines with no regard to his own life, ultimately redeeming himself of his original sin.

That actually makes sense which would answer the question as to how Angel Dust isn’t in heaven probably because his soul is owned by Valentino. Also Valentino did say in episode 2 that he “employs every down on their luck loser this side of hell” which makes me think those deals play a big part as to why not many people have gotten into heaven probably because the overlords of Hell have been chaining them down from ever having a chance (which also would tie in the V’s in as well since they probably have large amounts of souls they own).

@@ecthox-1mork909 Another explanation could be, that besides his soul being owned, Angel isn't fully over his personal issues and shortcomings yet, which I think his deal with Val ultimately also symbolizes and is set up to be his major conflict. He improved alot over season 1 and became somebody who is capable of taking responsibility, standing up for others and show his true self, but I think he also could show us of redemption isn't something archieved always in a short matter of time. Sir Pentious was the perfect candidate to be redeemed first, because he showed to be highly receptive towards working on redemption the moment somebody reached out to him and offered him the chance. Considering his former behavior and ultimate attitude of the show, I would also assume that his sin was highly related to cowardice and sacrificing others for his own sake, as he initially treated his Eggs as expendable, until he opened up to redemption and was told to get rid of them. Like, the only instances of debauchery we see him engage in, getting wasted and fucking around, are the consequences of his cowardice to tell Cherri how he feels and in the final battle, he did gather the bravery to both confess to her, kiss her and sacrificed his own life for others.

Me and my sister were just talking about this. Our theory is that Sir Pencious went against the very sin that manivested him. He was prideful and kinda cowardly. Mostly in it for him but at the last moment displayed Bravery, Humility and Selflessness. He knew he was going to die but he was willing to risk it all for his friends. So we think for a sinner to redeem themselves they have to willingly go against their vice and perform a completely selfless act of their own will. We think the reason Angel Dust did not go is because Angel is still addicted to his vices so he has not really gone against them though has become selfless standing up for Niffy against Val.

@@midnightsky3730 The only other theory we had was that Adam and Lilith came up with the extermination together with Lilith acting as if she was inspiring the demons into an uprising then Adam would come in to kill them to satisfy some issues or needs he had. While Lilith was allowed into Heaven, Sera herself being tricked into it. The idea being this is that Lilith might represent toxic femininity as Adam resprents Toxic masculinity. Lilith likely convinced Lucifer to allow it using his depression then staged a walk out to enjoy paradise.

Or this "Hell" is simply Limbo and only higher authority beings know this. This could explain why Adam "died" with a smile. He may have been the Big G's (GOD) black ops agent who truly tests the "Hell" residents. After all, there is a very common saying that "One's true character shows when their back is against the wall". Sir Pentious's ascension may have shown that the "Extermination" might be a test where your actions during the "crisis" determine if "Sinners" can be redeemed. The Sinners usually run, hide, or push others into the line of fire when the "Extermination" occurs making them "fail" in essence due to selfishness and the bystander effect. Sir Pentious may have "passed" because he committed the act of "self-sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds". The quote "Extermination is entertainment!" by Adam in Episode 1 could imply that Adam and his Exorcists are the test of character and could be a reason why he dismissed Charlie: Adam's "Extermination" is already giving the "Sinners" a chance at Heaven already.

Yes! Winners had to be good at heart in order to be there, as all the mid to rotten people went to Hell. Adam may have been obnoxious on a superficial level, but only really cruel to sinners in Hell. Emily and Peter seemed fine, and even Sera at least showed base level courtesy to Charlie.

It would also help chalenge Charlie's views when it comes to redemption. Sure, Charlie is right trying to redeem sinners, however it's easy to talk about forgiving and redeeminging them when you dont know what actions they commited to end up in Hell especially when those actions did not affect you personally or someone you cared for. Like there are probably people in heaven that died due to direct or indirect actions of the main cast. I doubt they would look fondly at the hotel. With Adam however? Charlie and everyone alse in the hotel know very damn well why he is there. Not only that, he also caused them great emotional and physical harm AND killed a member of their family. So Charlie deciding to forgive him and actually help him out would be way more difficult than giving Sir Pentious a second chance after she learned that he was a spy.

My personal theory is that because his soul was rejudged, his soul manifested in front of high ranking Angels to kind of help him integrate into Heaven's society since he's so used to fighting for his life all the time. I feel this would apply to other souls that get rejudged such as Sir Pentious as to keep the order of Heaven while also welcoming former sinners.

yeah, I like this for the theory that the series may end with Charlie talking to God who basically is at the beginninng of her same character arc (doesn't want to make his presence/desires know because it would be too mean, doesn't want to wield his power because he doesn't want to be seen as a tyrant, and has absolute faith in is terrible children that they'll eventually figure it out), I think it'd be cool if this lead to something really bad potentially nearly destroying all of existence and God basically is forced to act to prevent it (or possibly has to be convinced by Charlie to do so) and feels really bad about how he let things go wrong for so long. Possibly a reprise of "It Starts with Sorry" I think would be really fitting here.

Meanwhile Em and Sera are DEFINITELY gonna want to talk about what just happened with Charlie, which means not only is Charlie going to find out it worked and Pentious is up there, she is likely gonna meet Angel Pentious personally... and find out about Molly. Which is news she is gonna casually carry back to Angel, not knowing how huge news that'd be to him. Angel isn't taking redemption seriously because he thinks there's not much point in it and that it won't work. He may even be assuming Molly dropped down to Hell DECADES ago but got caught in an Extermination before they found each other again. Once he knows Molly's up there waiting, and somehow Pentious REALLY DID make the cut and get up there, he'll actually have a REASON to want to better himself actively and get to Heaven. His sis is waiting for him, and all he has to do is better himself enough to manage what Pentious managed. Meanwhile, the immediate central villains of the next season are hinted to be the Vees, meaning that, at long last, Valentino's ownership of Angel's soul is gonna be ADDRESSED.

Don't forget that Adam is incredibly sadistic. The regeneration process for a sinner is incredibly painful and Adam would take a lot of pleasure in causing that level of pain. However, the Hazbin crew's reactions make this confusing, as it seems as if the Holy Light does in fact perma kill, but we see Pen remanifest in Heaven instead of Hell for being redeemed, when, if the Light works the same way as normal angelic weapons, he should have been completely erased. I suspect that this is just an accidental lore contradiction rather than anything intentional.

Lucifer has a lot of red on him. At least as much as Asmodeus has his blue, though not as much as Beelzebub and Mammon have their colours. Lucifer just doesn't cover himself in red because he still takes pride in being an Angel.

Though I also don't believe Angelic weapons actually harm the soul (I think they break the link between your body and soul (well the image of your body) so it deals permanent damage but doesn't actively negate healing just physically destroys that part of the image of you, and when it kills you it completely separates your body and soul and your soul if still evil whilst your body was evil recognises hell to be identical to the nature of your previous vessel and so your evil essence(which I assume is analogous to soul) becomes a part of hell forming a new eye on the wall

About Carmilla's part, other levels only have people that were born in hell, even if they died wouldn't manifest in heaven even if they were "pure" . Pentious might have been the first because before him, no sinner even cared/ thought it was possible or had the means to redeem themself. it's only thanks to Charlie who cared and had the power to create a system to redeems the sinner (honestly, it's more surprising that no one aside from Angel Dust tried to go there even if it's just for the rent-free part). I don't think we really know much about the reforming rules in hell, it's excruciatingly painful but it might take a long time before someone's return explaining the grief everyone felt.

My theory for the end goal where the show is going is that in the end the hotel will become the gateway between heaven and hell, either by a gateway inside it, or the hotel itself becoming another plane between the two, literally becoming purgatory. Allowing families split between them to meet, even if just at the hotel etc. Character wise, Charlie being half angel half demon would be in charge obviously, Lucifer dealing with the logistics of hell, Emily i see either dealing with the ones in heaven or joining Charlie at the hotel with Sera doing the logistics from heaven. With certain characters like Angel choosing to go to heaven, Pentious going back to hell, and Cherri also taking part in a bit of self improvement staying in hell, these 3 showing the status quo, sinners going to heaven, returned sinners choosing to make hell better, angels going down in hell.

Been thinking about a few theories a lot rn. Lemme just run them down for y’all 1: Alastor isn’t just a deer in hell but a wendigo, we can see this in episode2 as he grows more demonic in “stayed gone”. He is also supposedly and cannibal in life and death. Wendigos (in myth) are created when humans eat their fellow human. Of course the version of the Wendigo seen in media is very westernized and the original myths depicted a different version of this monster. 2(this one’s more fun): everybody in hell has something they hate about them in their demonic form. Angels feet, husker being a cat, and alastor probably being a deer. my guess is that the one thing Nifty hates about herself is being so small, seeing as it would be easier for her to clean, smash bugs, and cause mayhem if she were her same height as when she was alive. If only heavenly weapons could permanently kill Sinners, why didn't they all just go to the cannibal colony, get eaten by them, and thus get 'respawned' after the extermination rather than risk being permanently outed by the Angels? If it takes presumably hours to days or even longer it would be super easy to wait out a single day for each years extermination. But then it might also weaken the Sinners each time and would probably be very painful. Ah well.

If they become a good person and redeem themselfs they get the reward of being in heaven. Almost no one seems to be noticing that Lute was using a unique golden sword that may not be made of angelic steel but something else. Also its fair Vaggie didnt know Angels could be perma harmed seeing as how her wings literally grew back and she didnt seemed too shocked. What if its the same with her eye? She is simply keeping the injuries from healing as a representation of repressed trauma, she gained her wings after learning to accept herself and her place to defend the hotel alongside her girlfriend, so maybe in another season she'll regain her eye after another emotional breakthrough. I'm not sure if id want that, having characters that represent others with eye issues is always welcomed, we always need more representation and not less and maybe having her heal her disability (if she cant see out that eye) through character development might send the wrong message.

In Dante’s purgatory it is said that each sin that doesn’t land you in hell can take up to over thousands of years per sin, The only way to cut the time down is to have people on earth pray for you. Even then it would be hundreds of years instead of thousands.

I think one possibility for Sera is that she may double down on the extermination and try to confine and hide Ser Pentious. She's already spent so long using the exterminations to keep Hell in check the idea that the idea that entire time there was a better way and she didn't see it might cause her to snap. Especially after she already rejected Charlie's proposal once. This would cause conflict with Emily and possibly could give us more scenes in Heaven of Emily trying to help Charlie from her side like she promised she would in S1E6.
