He truly is one of the best characters ever. He wasn't unstoppable his schemes and actions had real consequences and he didn't always come out on top. But that's what made him seem so realistic. Plus he was never a coward

On rewatches he really carries the show for me. I love Anson Mount as Bohannon but man Colm Meaney fuckin dominated this portrayal of Doc Thomas Durant
@EngelishRyan10 жыл бұрын
Durant: Is it a villain you want? I'll play the part. After all, what is a drama without a villain? What is the building of this grand road if not a drama? This business is not for the weak of heart. It is a thorny, brutal affair that rewards the lion for his ferocity. But what of the zebra? What of the poor zebra? Well, the zebra's eaten, as the zebra should be. Make no mistake, blood will be spilled, lives will be lost, fortunes will be made, men will be ruined. There will be betrayal and scandals, and perfidy of epic proportions, but the lion - shall - prevail! You see, the secret I know is this. All of history is driven by the lion. We drag the poor zebra, kicking and braying, staining the earth with its cheap blood. History doesn't remember us fondly, but then history is written by the zebra for the zebra. One hundred years hence, when this railroad spans the continent, and America rises to be the greatest power the world has seen, I will be remembered as a caitiff, a malefactor, who only operated out of greed for personal gain. All true, all true, but remember this: without me and men like me, your glorious railroad would never be built.

There is so much truth behind this speech... Villains and Lions are what society needs in order to move forward. As cruel as it sounds this is the truth.
@Helxas9 жыл бұрын
The0Dark0Warrior It exists in a symbiotic state. The lion cannot survive without the zebra. It starves without the zebra. But the zebra cannot survive without the lion, either. The zebra grazes and fears the lion... Without the fear of the lion to keep the zebra in check, it only grazes. When it's legs collapse under the zebra's own weight, it grazes on the grass that it can still reach. And then it starves. The lion needs to be the villian. Otherwise the zebra only grazes.

Basically all villains do is keep people on their toes and sharp against conflict. Beyond that, they're better off dead.

i find it better in german though, he sounds kinda... drunk? in original? but maybe its supposed to be so, like the booze easing your tongue XD And maybe i find it only better in german because initially ive heard it in german. In german he puts more energy and agressiveness, therefore more superiority in certain aspects of the speech.

They should make a red dead game following this era.. directly after the Civil War ended.. maybe they can even have it centered around a bohannon like character and you start the game off in a civil war battle.. then head west to seek your fortune.. maybe become a lawman or outlaw.. whatever you choose. Maybe a bit of both. Idk, this was the most interesting period.. when Indians still lived free on the Plains, reconstruction was in full swing, and you could still ride for weeks or months at a time without seeing anybody.

It's a good thing this show came out when it did. A confederate main character would more then likely NEVER be allowed this day and age. Bunch of snow flakes destroying anything and everything that has to do with the confederacy. Because you take down statues and destroy paintings doesn't mean it didn't happen people. Just destroying old relics that we can never get back again.
