I expected them to kill him and just take the goods the first time I saw this. In spite of what some people say, their killings were never "all about business." This is a typical of example of their mentality, they had no idea whether or not the seller would survive the test, and they didn't care. If he had died or been seriously injured they would have merely left the vests and taken their business elsewhere. The two of them had irrational violent impulses which they didn't always rein in leading to over kill situations and, eventually, to both of their deaths.

This is one of the reasons I love Breaking Bad, the way it shows us the criminal empire, The Twins are obviously murderers, but instead of just taking the vests, or killing the guy, they actually did pay him, so while they're murderers, they do have a level of honor and respect.
