HELLBLADE 2: SENUA’S SAGA PREVIEW
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, the next game from Ninja Theory, is no doubt one of the most anticipated games currently in development at any first-party Xbox Studio. But while expectations are high, we still don’t have a release date. Fortunately, there is a good amount of information about the game if you know where to look. And that’s exactly what I did. After reading every article, watching every video, and sifting through every Twitter feed I could find, I discovered 11 details I think you might find interesting. Now, most previews on my channel focus purely on gameplay. But since Hellblade 2 is a ways off, I talk in this video about both gameplay and some behind the scenes development details that provide clues as to what the final game might be like. If that piques your interest, then I hope you’ll join me for my initial preview of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.
You’ll travel seamlessly across 100s of miles
In a developer update posted to Ninja Theory’s official KZbin channel, Studio co-founder and Hellblade 2 director Tameem Antoniades revealed that one goal for Hellblade 2 is to “capture that sense of awe and epic, of senua’s journey as she travels hundreds of miles seamlessly across Iceland.” So, there’s one big difference that we know that exists between Hellblade 1 and Hellblade 2. Whereas the first game took place in a relatively small and contained setting, we know the second game will cover much more ground. Hopefully this means we’ll visit a more diverse range of environments. And one note here, the fact that Hellblade 2 is set in a more Earthly specific Earthly location instead of the ambiguous and often surreal setting of the first game doesn’t mean it will lack any mythological locations or fantastical elements. Not by a long shot. First off, we’ve already seen this giant troll - more on him in a bit - and as I’ll get to later, Antionodes has confirmed that the story of Hellblade 2 explores “how madness and suffering shapes myths, gods, and religion.” Taking that into account, and that Senua still experiences psychosis, I think it’s likely that, at the very least, her hallucinations will take her to some fantastical locations.

If I can put my faith into any AAA studio, there's only one studio that I can trust, Ninja Theory. Despite its flaw, HB1 is a great game. Excited for Hellblade 2.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how they evolve this second game. The combat in the first game had a lot of potential; hopefully the sequel really expands on it. It would be nice if the sequel takes at least 20 hours to do most everything in the game.

I'm nothing short of being emotionally invested in this game (and first one). And to find out senua is based on the goddess senuna, and the very real pict tribe she was from, it gives me the sense of realism that makes it all the more emotional.

I’m hoping for a 30-45 hour main story, but with replay-ability for side excursions and collectibles. Total around 70-80 hours for 100%. That, along with beautiful vistas and sound design, it will be worth every penny of the likely $69.99 price tag.

First game had impressive: subject-matter, visuals, audio, technology, writing, and acting BUT the combat swung widely between clunky and simplistic and the puzzles were never satisfying to solve. I would love to see the puzzles and combat improved drastically in the second game

I think it's pretty much a guarantee there won't be a skill tree, Tameem Antoniades and the team have been pretty adament about removing anything from the game that takes away from the kind of immersion they want, from collectibles, to skill trees to a UI in general. I'm guessing they'll shine up the gameplay from the first one, but things like a menu for customization and skill trees probably won't happen. But I could be wrong, and I'd be interested to see how they'd do it if they decided to.

I really wasn’t too pleased with the first one it was amazing to look at, like what a masterpiece graphically I was actually looking forward to a sequel with the hopes that that they would make some improvements… Then it was announced and got hit with the bombshell that it was Xbox exclusive, and I just don’t fuck with Xbox. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I don’t know us PlayStation gamer’s were a bit harsh with are criticism. The new psychological horror they are working on will be awesome too because they'll be using the same actor and production equipment for the game. In fact I'd go as far as to say that the game will be top of the line quality upon release next year (assuming next year) simply because of the amount of effort put towards the audio and the visuals.
