To be fair to Kirsty, the events of the film are supposed to happen within the same time frame - I’m guessing no less than a few days or weeks after, and yeah she’s still grieving her Dad. Perhaps she thought it genuinely was her Dad because he was completely skinned, but then so was his brother.. I think she was just traumatized and didn’t think it through. I would have done the same, if I were her. But to her credit, she does realize she was wrong.
@easygrin11274 жыл бұрын
Well the cenobites didnt seem like straight forward honest kinda guys. They tried to take Kirsty when she did nothing wrong. So if there is only but a small chance.... would you guys leave it up to trust that your father was in hell or not?
@johnmccarron70663 жыл бұрын
@@easygrin1127 A fair point regarding the dad, but the thing I liked about the Cenobites is, as far as movie monsters go, they have very specific rules and they follow the rules. It's just that their rules are so obtuse and alien they seem arbitrary, but one of the very specific rules is that if you open the box, you want what they're selling, whether that's true or not.

One thing worth mentioning about the whole "dead" thing, Hell as it's called in Hellraiser really means the Cenobite's world; they're beings from another dimension. So when people get taken from Earth to their world, they aren't dying per se, just being transported, which is how they can come back to Earth again.

I think the reason Kirstie originally counted as willingly opening the box with Tiffany didn't is because, even though Kirstie didn't know what it was or what would happen, she still consciously wanted to solve it, even if out of curiosity. Tiffany meanwhile was compelled by her neurosis.

As to your question about the mattress, at the very end of Hellraiser or the very beginning of Hellraiser 2, we do indeed see Julia lying on the mattress. Whoever it was who put her on there is beyond me.... it's between the Cenobites or Frank. There's no freaking way it would've been Kirsty....they hated each other. The puzzle box in her hands is also possible possibly due to the Cenobites trying to trick Kirsty. My biggest question is....wtf did she manage to get out of the hospital and go to daddy's house after they said the police were going to interview her. So many questions with definite plot holes!!

Awesome review dude and agree with everything you bring up, though I find Hellraiser II to be better than the original and infinitely better than the lametastic sequels and easily my favorite of the series. Thanks for the background info, fascinating stuff and had no clue about Dad actor not reprising his role, tho honestly thought Uncle Frank fit fine and seemed the more logical choice (and as you said, good dads don't go to hell!). The single biggest problem I had w this movie was also the biggest disappointment for what so obviously could have been an incredible scene: the Cenobite fight with Doctor Kinky Evil! Or as you show here, the total lack of a fight as these big bad Cenobites all go out like bee-atches with nary a whimper! WTF??? Even a 5 or even 2 minute fight with major ass kicking that ended up the same outcome would have still been an amazing scene in horror movie history and every person I know wanted what so obviously should have been there! Why??? Why oh why did they not shows us how bad a$$ Cenobites could be by pitting them against their own kind??? Why did they all die so dag gone easily? I thought PinHead (or Leader Dude, however we should refer to him) should at the very least had slice and diced Dr S&M but nope, just totally ignore the setup making every fan boy s heart pound and ignore the awesome battle we should have had. Do you know if the original script had a fight scene before being rewritten!? If nothing else, I daresay such a scene could be the basis for another sequel if the franchise has any undeath still in it! Fun fact: Julia (or rather the actress of course) featured in Doctor Who presiding over the 8th Doctor regenerating into the War Doctor anger later warned Peter Capaldis Doctor that Davros was coming while Uncle Frank played a Pagan Coven Member in the pilot/only episode of the Dr Who spinoff called K9 and Company (which decades later was totally reworked and became the successful Sarah Jane Adventures). Love your reviews dude!!!!!!!

I remember watching this back at my second house over a decade ago Turns 35! This one truly has a more darker tone than the last one which in a way matches director Tony Randal's mindset Clive Barker executive produces this time but thankfully this has almost the same spirit acting more like a dark fantasy It's nice to see the Cenobites again in top form seeing how their own vices lead to them becoming demons themselves and we get more insight into Pinhead's origin The blood and gore doesn't disappoint and the practical effects are top notch making the agony interesting There's still the ideas of corruption by lust, pleasure and pain being indistinguishable, knowing too much is dangerous, is there more to learn?, we pursue forbidden pleasures through fascination Ashley Laurence brings a lot more to her role, the mythos grows even bigger with a cosmic hellscape, and I really like Tiffany by Imogen Boorman who has an innocent quality to her as she's one of the few not actively seeking the box The budget is bigger despite new world pictures having to cut the budget due to financial issues allowing for a bigger labyrinth environment The sequel managed to expand the characters and the mythos without having to repeat things being very operatic thanks to Randal's input representing a fully more realized production 'Hellraiser 2' is the only chapter worth checking out of 9 abysmal sequels that serves as a final swan song in terms of creativity

I'm going to be very honest. Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 was not as great as many say it is. Because it was rushed bigtime during development considering that it was being made before the 1st Hellraiser's release, the result was a follow-up that had quite some plot inconsistencies & plot holes, which also left more questions than answers. Like how did Kirsty suddenly end up in the Channard Institute when she was okay at the end of Hellraiser? Hellbound took place right after the 1st movie. Where did those cubes the patients were solving came from? They even didn't summon cenobites. And what's the point & purpose of the tentacle on Channard's head when he was a cenobite? It's safe to say that Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 was the true start of the series' downturn.
@FriendLee12109310 жыл бұрын
Did it suffer due to rushed production? Sure. Is it as good as the first film? No. But it's still arguably the second best Hellraiser film in the series. The Cenobite motivations are still the shades of gray they should be, rather than the "clear cut, evil demons from hell" characteristics they were given in later films (Hell on Earth, anyone?). They stick with the story from the first film, and yeah, while there are some gaps, there are also some things that are cleared up. On top of that, much like the first film, it's a gorgeously shot movie, and the last truly GOOD Hellraiser film. Bloodlines was watchable, but nothing more than that.
@Cellmate41216210 жыл бұрын
FriendLee93 To be honest I found Hellraiser Bloodline to be better than Hellbound. At least the cenobites were given a fair share of kills while In Hellbound Pinhead made no kills at all. Sure Hellraiser 3 was bad, but it was so bad it's funny. What I find hypocritically is thatvrveryone complained about Pinhead's over the top behavior in Hellraiser 3, but no one complained about Dr. Channard's over the top behavior not to also mention those doctor puns.
@FriendLee12109310 жыл бұрын
Gargoyle Man It's Hellraiser. It's not about the kill count. And the problem with Hell on Earth isn't that Pinhead is over-the-top. It's that he's evil at all. Pinhead's character, in the previous 2 movies, was all about order, just enforcing Leviathan's laws (At least til he remembered his humanity). Him suddenly being evil and just converting who the fuck ever into Cenobites for his "Army" made no sense at all.
@Cellmate41216210 жыл бұрын
FriendLee93 I know that. What also made no sense as Pinhead "suddenly being evil and just converting who the fuck ever into Cenobites for his "Army" was Dr. Channard's behavior as a cenobite, which was on the same boat as Pinhead in Hellraiser 3, which was cliched evil. And what was the whole idea & purpose about the tentacle on his head? Made even far less sense.
@FriendLee12109310 жыл бұрын
Gargoyle Man Channard's behavior as a Cenobite wasn't all that weird. He was enforcing Leviathan's will. We interpret Channard's behavior as "evil" because he was a sadist in life, and he continued to be such as a cenobite. His pursuit of Kirsty and Tiffany wasn't anything different than Pinhead or his gang would have done. Channard was just doing it while directly connected to Leviathan, which made him more powerful. The tentacle was part of Leviathan, and it connected to Channard as a way of making him stronger. Kinda like he became an extension of Leviathan itself.

More like 30-something, but yeah there are way too many to shove into a single summer. Although it'd probably be fine to skip a lot of them. Some of them are just boring as fuck, and that's coming from a huge Godzilla fan

thats also why final wars is so good. "hey we know that the human parts in godzilla can be really boring but what if we made it so that everyone is fighting always? godzilla blowin through niggas while the humans act like kamen rider characters with the over the top fighting" although best godzilla human will always be "*BABY RIDER*"!

The whole ting about the mattress. At the end of Hellraiser 1 Kisty had that huge bonfore. Why wasn't the mattress the fist to get thrown on? Wikia just says her fathr had probably gone o heaven, was the originl plot along the lines of her pulling her father out of hell?

Although it is well established that Clive Barker did not like the name Pinhead which I read the makeup artists who did the makeup coined the name although I have heard the fans were the ones but I digress I’m not here to argue who named who, I am here because I read ( which again you probably already know this) that Clive Barker wanted his name to be hell priest as is his name in the novel the Scarlet Gospels

Hellbound was imo the most deep of the Hellraiser movies that I have seen. The whole notion of going to another plane of existence like Planescape Torment was different in any kind of storytelling. I think if Clive Barker spent more time and weaved his tale a little more refined, this would be even bigger. Parts of the movie were clearly rushed and it has some really poor moments. Looking deeper at Hellbound with certain eyes tho its clear this was trying to be something spectacular and alluring. This movie has clearly inspired other movies like Inception and The Cell listen to the Leviathon music for one instance. The whole notion of a giant labyrinth plane of existence coupled with sex and desire is very much akin to the old history myth of Ishtar. The Cenobites betraying each other and fighting is reminiscent of the old saying when at the top you dare to be shot at. This makes the plane all the more cruel when not even Cenobites stay in power and its a constant demon change so not even consistency and legacy can remain. Maybe I'm looking a little too deep at Hellbound but I really do think if they had more patience and quality they could of really done something on the Game of Thrones level of intelligence and quality story-telling.

Awrah you god damn muslim, you've shared some nice insightful comment there. The only thing I highly disagree with is cenobites betraying one another. It seems to me the default attitude of the cenobites of different groups towards one another is indifference. Dr. Channard was after Tifanny and didn't much care about Kirsty or Pinhead's group while Pinhead's group ignored Channard and Tifanny and only showed interest in Kirsty. The only reason cenobites fought each other was Pinhead's out-of-character behavior, caused by his memory of being human. Dr. Channard even let him have first shot. All in all, I believe the usual interaction between cenobites is indifference at worst.

Fun fact the actual design for hell is a two dimentional dimond. The middle to the top represents the poor to the rich. The middle to the bottom symbolises the poor to the desperate. Same shape as the puzzle when its turned to the spikey thing

You ever seen the movie Cube, Decker?
@rogergurman157010 жыл бұрын
Decker Shado, do you really not know why Dr. Channard's head got ripped in half or was the confusion intened as part of character? Because there's PHYSICAL reason for what'd happened.
