river dance is an irish dance origianly i think, and thise are highland dancers, im more than sure that they are easy dance steps for highland dancers as my mum is a highland dancer teacher

they probably wanted to do this as a choreography. As I'm sure you know choreographies don't stick to the "standard" rules/tempos of most highland dance. Tough chicks, strong dancers. I think they were doing just fine. (have played for dancers over 20 years). Plus at points there were "taking turns"... which allows them to take a breather :)

Not really sure how the girls are supposed to dance to that speed, especially not being very pointed like a strathspey. None the less, a fantastic display of control over the pipes.
