Honestly, I'd fuck with a Hellboy TV series in the vein of early Supernatural. Nice hourish long monster of the week horror episodes where the BPRD shows up and fixes the situation while also scaring the fuck out of whoever they saved.

I'm not a huge fan or know the lore of hellboy, but my perception of hellboy is he should be more like a detective in noir esque movie, like more of thriller and mystery instead of del Toro action centered one. where each time he have to handle any demonic or mystical cases, he had to went through actual investigation to find every nook and crany to determine which demon causing it and then there's a brief action in the final act. like in the x-files.
@ncrrangerrolandtembo4615Ай бұрын
He is basically an noir occult detective who is a demon spawn but del toro movie is still fits hellboy because some the comics are just like the movies some more horror mystery like the crooked man story and some other ones but that’s why hellboy is so great because you do both action or horror and mystery stories
@motherplayerАй бұрын
@@ncrrangerrolandtembo4615 Indeed. For all you can say about Del Toro's take, I would argue they do fit the mood and artery of the comics at least, compared to the 2019 one which felt like an oddball splatter comedy and was well removed from the ideas of the comics. I even give this new film a little more credit in learning from that mess and going back to a more subdued mood.

17:07 This is why I can never think of Hellboy as anyone other than Ron Pearlman. The guy just comes across as a masculine cynic too well not to be an experienced hunter of evil. Hellboy 1 and 2 have a special place in my heart. Playing on the flaws of hyper-masculinity was one of the things that made hellboy so fun and comical too like when yohan declared that he could "take" hellboy in the locker room. The masculine side of hellboy is to face all oppoents and yohan seemed like no big deal compared to the other horrors hellboy had faced before. Underestimating yohan was a silly mistake though. Legendary hilarious scene.

Perfect timing for me 🔥
@WhitewingdevilАй бұрын
Honestly I think the timing was pretty good for releasing a movie like this, a lot of comic book fans have been getting frustrated at how many stories in the movies seem to revolve around similar threats (oh no, a big sky beam is threatening the world... again.) or similar levels of stakes, I found it really refreshing to see a story that focuses on a small scale problem and reinforces the stakes by having us learn about the characters so we can empathise with them and their situation. You could argue that following a beloved comic so closely is basically cheating, but looking at other comic book adaptations over the years it becomes pretty clear that NOT screwing up a beloved story is apparently harder than it would seem.

I'm still looking forward to watching this. After the mess of a film in the 2019 version, scaling back Hellboy to an indie horror film makes sense and is kinda where I always thought Hellboy should have started. It does look very low budget in many angles though. I don’t remember seeing any trailers for this movie.

I may be in the minority but as a horror fan who doesn't like the generic polished look certain movies have since the 2000s this is the first Hellboy film that really caught my attention. I hope the director and Mignola chose the look because the story will be gritty and not fantasylike. On the other side the movie probably won't attract neither the traditional Hellboy fans nor horror fans. But I will test this out.

I just watched this the other night. I really liked it! I was prepared for it to be super low budget so I didn't really let any of the CGI bug me but the worst of it was really just the spider anyway. This feels so much more like the comic books. Hellboy has a few quips But he was never actually as constantly sarcastic as Ron perlman was, or straight up just a comedic character the way the 2019 version did it. This felt much much more authentic to the character, and then the general tone of the comics. The comics are not action-packed usually. They're kind of dreary and they explore all of these folk and mythological horror tales. I liked that this was a slow burn but not boring, it didn't last longer than it needed to, and it really focused on just a few characters. But I agree with the concept that it kind of feels like it was an episode of a TV show. Especially since it does 0 explanation of something like who Hellboy is and what the BPRD is But overall I thought this was a lot of fun. But I also thought the 2019 version was fun so I don't know maybe I'm weird. This one is just the most comic accurate which was cool to see

I have to say I liked this Hellboy the best. Hellboy is always a man of little words in the books and they really got him in this film. Plus, they didn`t have anything like that dumbass love story between him and Liz or they I want to be beloved by the world like in the Del Toro films. Had this movie had a bigger budget it would have been a perfect Hellboy stand-alone movie.
@Reaper1722Ай бұрын
Had my doubts, like everybody else did. But my doubts were squashed the moment i watched it. Was fun from beginning to end. If this is what they can do on a shoestring budget, i do wonder what they can do had they had a bigger budget. In terms of stakes, it's a much smaller scale compared to the adventures of Del Toro's Hellboy, nothing world ending. But it still felt as fun to me personally, that i wouldn't mind to see more of this style. I read some of the negative audience reviews at Rotten Tomatoes and some were laughable. Obviously just hating to hate, hating it cause it's not Del Toro's Hellboy. I mean one person complained that it was "Dark, night colors all the time". And most just say it's bad without elaborating on what makes it bad. One even said that the Crooked Man seemed liked a threat and ended up being a "piece of cake". My guy, he was close to killing Hellboy had he not received help from Tom Ferrell. There were also some complaints about the CGI, and honestly i thought it wasn't that bad, i felt they blend right in. Dare i say it's not even as bad as the CGI of some of the recent Marvel and DC movies, and those had a high budget. Some even say the plot is confusing. Like, how? I loved Del Toros Hellboy films as much as anyone, and they were great. But some of these people are just so blinded by nostalgia and filled with so much bias, it's palpable. I'd honestly just laugh if i see someone say that "this is not Hellboy" or something. Considering Mike Mignola himself wrote for the film. You can't get more authentic than the writing of the creator of Hellboy himself. And speaking of Hellboy, i did love Jack Kesy's performance. He may not be the Hellboy that i grew up with. But he felt authentic nonetheless. He sounds the part, and the way he acted it out was good imo. He's not as quippy as Del Toro's version, but during times that he is, it felt appropriate. It felt like it's the right amount. Overall, pleasantly surprised. Much better than the 2019 reboot imo.
