I like the rift. With the entry fee aside It throws most of skyblock’s flaws out the window and provides an experience that caters to most of the progression stages. My main issue with skyblock is that it barely caters to new players and it has stuff like blaze slayer which is only accessible to under 1% of the player base. But the rift? It’s both an exception and a gigachad step in the right direction for skyblock

the skyblock lore that probably no one cares about behind the rift: so, hub castle is the epitome of magic training in the realm and the islands aren’t yet separated, jythar the dragon emperor is invading everywhere with his dragon army and generals, mages have little time to prepare but set up a trap on top of mountaintop, jythar gets trapped in it, he makes a pact with magic itself or whatever as he’s really good at feel (death) magic and he’s been dead for a few hours now even, he lets out an ungodly burst of energy decimating everything near and letting him escape and even his dragon army weren’t spared tho the castle and mages did survive as they’re powerful, jythar wreaks as much havoc as he can in his final moments before dying and landing on what is now the crimson isle and this event is known as the calamity and it separated the skyblock islands, the calamity causes the breach on the hub to open and that’s it for what I know about the rift Lore that continues and is about m7 wither king: so, there’s this guy called Kaeman and he’s a really powerful mage or whatever, but his family died in the calamity and he wants to study fel magic to try revive them, over time the crimson isle becomes what it is now due to jythars body and the end corrupts because his heart which is imbued with fel magic is buried there (near the altar to summon dragons I think) and he sets up a research laboratory there secretly and for 7 years he studies fel magic before reviving his family, though they had no memory and do not require anything at all so they’re essentially zombies and after 3 years longer his laboratory is found by the council of mages or whatever on a routine search and they mutilate the bodies of Kaemans family and since Kaeman has nothing left, he goes to the altar at the end to sacrifice himself to Jythars heart, but since self sacrifice is the pinnacle of fel magic he is surrounded in a maelstrom of magic and his family’s bodies fuse with him, creating the first wither and the wither king. the wither king then immediately tries to take revenge on the castle, but is defeated and locked in the cage you can now see on the hub in the forest, fast forward like 20 years or smth and there’s a orphan called necron (yes, the necron we all know) and he’s taken in by the castle and after a few years of studying there, one of the forbidden scrolls that Kaeman made is slid into his dorm, necron becomes a helper for guarding the wither kings cage and at night, he routinely starts talking with the wither king and eventually he is given a scroll that can weaken the cage that the wither king is trapped in and let him escape, the. The wither king falls down into the catacombs making it look like an accident and taking necron with him from there, none of the stories about how the bosses arrived are interesting except the watcher, sadan, livid, lathrop (the watcher) tho I can’t be bothered so I’ll just tell the 0 people still reading that the watcher was forced to look at an orb and concentrate as he had abilities like that and always had visions, his limbs were eventually amputated and because of his abilities he was commissioned to make a orb that shows a replica of a world where the calamity didn’t happen and the wither king went to slumber for eternity to look at a world hell never have (when beating m7 ur killing a guy who just wanted to look at a false reality for eternity where his family wasn’t killed and mutilated and his dialogue confirms he doesn’t want to fight and wants to continue to stare into the orb) Also, why did you read all this? Tldr dragon emperor makes pact with magic and separates the island while opening the rift, Kaeman tried reviving his family from their death by the dragon emperor but after he does they’re mutilated by the mages and he becomes the wither king and makes the entire army at the catacombs to try get revenge and he doesn’t want to fight anymore

I believe I joined in the very first days of Skyblock opening to non-ranked players in 2019, played for a few months before I got bored and went back to only doing housing and being one of the 3 people playing Galaxy Wars. Back then I was quite in the upper class of the non-tryharders having my own snow minion, but to be fair I mainly focused on building. Fun times to think of now, I don't play Minecraft anymore but that was an important era of my character development
