Each time you launch into a mission in Helldivers 2, it plays around 40 seconds of the start of this song at a minimum (depending on your loading times) while you watch an animation of yourself plummeting through a planet's atmosphere in a "hellpod", and the song only stops once you hit the ground in-mission. It's a very iconic scene that never gets tiresome. The melody that starts at 3:48 is a throwback to the main theme of the original Helldivers.

Helldivers 2's entire soundtrack is amazing. Especially the extraction and the tutorial training theme. The trailer help give you a sense of the game's tone as well as the music. It doesn't take itself serious while the NPCs in-game do.

I have unhealthy amounts of hours played in this game and this theme still slaps and thats coming from the guy who has seen all of HD2's up and down and the exciting plots, was a Creek Diver, Turned Meridia to a black hole and have welcomed squids return on Calypso, that build-up when the Ship reconfigures/aims the Hellpods to the Actual Launch and then the loading sequence man still the best and the most adrenaline feeling ever, still remembers how Im so hype during my first launch at Angel's Venture around -3 days of game release with the standard liberator, frag and machine gun since its the only standard equipment u have at first. I suggest you listen to the extraction theme as well that one too never gets dull or boring(Well all of HD2's soundtrack is a banger really)

I forget who it was, but I remember someone saying that the first half is like the idealized 'heroic' Helldiver theme while the second half is like the grim/sad reality.

Its both. Helldivers 2 is a parody of stuff like starship troopers, except it never stops taking itself seriously. Helldivers scream sloagans while being blown to pieces, a common mission objective is to raise the flag of super earth while under enemy fire, and saluting at it makes it go faster, and literal zombified humans are called voteless, because not getting to participate in managed democracy is the worst fate imaginable. It does all this while neber breaking kayfabe, never having that moment of looking at the audience and acknowkedging how ridiculous it all is. And its godamn amazing

One interesting aspect of Helldivers 2 is that a lot of the official media surrounding the game is propaganda for Super Earth. The music that plays and the first cutscene the game shows you are all just propaganda to try and recruit more Helldivers to the cause. Hilariously enough, that propaganda is apparently good enough marketing material that the company sold around 12 million copies. Also, "Liber-Tea" is just a pun for "Liberty" in the vein of "Serving up a plate of Freedom and a cup of Liber-Tea!"

Helldivers... The universe and game itself isn't serious, but the moment to moment gameplay, and the stories you tell in every cinematic fight you're in, is very serious. One of my stories is that me and one other guy were running to extract. The other 2 guys were calling it in and defending the position, and I had a broken leg with no stims. My buddy had no stims left but could still run. We had like 4 merged hoards on us, 3 bile titans, and a charger after us. I told him to go as I threw my turrets in the opposite direction to draw them in. I held them off for as long as I could, and just before they got me, I threw my orbital bombardments at my feet (380 and 120) to take down as many as I could and cutting them off for a few extra seconds from getting to the extract zone. In the end I died with a 79 kill streak and the counter kept going to 27 more kills after respawn. Edit: We had 2 reinforcements left, my sacrifice left it at 1. In the end only 2 of the 4 of us made it out that game. And this was the patch where spawns were kinda broken so you could have like 7-13 bile titans on you at once.

The extraction theme of this game is so good. I've listened ti it a LOT over the past couple weeks since I got back into the game. It goes with a defend the area objective so you can leave the battle and brings some extra power and hype to the main theme, in large part thanks to the drums.

as a veteran of the creek: our robot vietnam. the setting isn't very serious at all but in the moment it is VERY serious. as silly as things get its genuinely quite tense when the going gets tough. and you need good sense for combat and teamwork to make it through at higher difficulties. plus most players while playing roleplay as actual helldivers. even the developers release all their communication as if its in universe propaganda. so its like a giant happening you get to be part of

its a fantastic game to play with friends, its satire that takes itself seriously. Goes well with a drink or two. Can easily play a mission or two and put it down, you dont have to commit to long sessions etc. Should give it a try.

TL;DR: Helldivers 2 is a multiplayer third person shooter that takes place in a dark future where overpopulation and resource scarcity are major problems, humanity is ruled by a "managed democracy" that heavily restricts their freedoms (while also constantly yelling about how important freedom and liberty are), and the world government of Super Earth (yes, really) has decided to solve its problems by throwing its young adults at enemies in what are effectively suicide missions. The whole thing is extremely tongue in cheek, much in the same vein as the Starship Troopers movie, essentially parodying the hyper enthusiasm and forced patriotism of American military propaganda. The titular Helldivers are supposed to be Super Earth's special forces, but their training lasts all of one day and the overall strategy for utilizing them can be summed up as "We Have Reserves." Friendly fire is *always* on, players are as likely to be killed by their own teammates as by the enemy (especially among less experienced players), and the "extra lives" your team has are literally just carbon-copy versions of your character who just got destroyed by an orbital bombardment. It can be a blast to play, but just don't take anything too seriously.

Helldivers 2 is a very not serious game, full of satire and wit while also having an engaging and interactive meta level narrative. The gameplay at its core is a co-op extraction shooter with both goofy and at times very intense gameplay that is super fun with a few friends. Helldivers are supposed to be the elite soldiers of Super Earth, a bastion of managed democracy and freedom in the galaxy, but if you listen to the totally false propaganda of its enemies (no need to report me to my democracy officer 😉) Helldivers really just go through a 5-10 minute basic training and are immediately cryogenically frozen and shipped off to the front lines of an endless war of imperialistic expansion in support of a facist, totalitarian regime. I would 100% recommend giving it a try at least if you enjoy some goofy and addicting shooting with friends. Most of the random players on it are actually not toxic as well, compared to most online games.

The only games Helldivers should collab with is Halo, I want ODSTs(Helljumpers) and 40k, whatever choice of imperial guard. Super Earth is based heavily on starship troopers, while the world of the game takes itself seriously, it is presented to us as ridiculous and super fascist under the guise of democracy. Unfortunately a chunk of capital G gamers are completely inept and don't see the irony and message, like if you think the imperium of man in 40k is good and correct and something to strive for, you have lost the fucking plot.
