Helldivers 2 Devs Also Wants You to Link PSN, Not Just Sony

Arrowhead and Sony both want you to link PSN to Helldivers 2, and it doesn't look like they're going to back off from this decision. They need to make it so people who have already purchased the game in other countries are not blocked from playing.

They've done that because of the high amount of refund requests, if a solution is reached that allows those people to play the game then steam will sell it again. I highly doubt Valve had any communication with Sony and is just covering their own backs until the dust settles

It gets worse by the second, a number of countries who are covered by PSN also require a PlayStation device to create a PSN account. Also in another number of these countries you need to give them your ID to create a PSN account.

Just as a reminder to all, you can also get a refund via steam support and when they change this awful choice you can always repurchase. steam is allowing refunds for this seemingly retroactive change to a legal agreement. i have seem people on the reddit claiming they got refunds for stating such to support. Edit: in order to get your refund make sure to state that due to retroactive changes to a legal agreement with Sony being forced upon you that you would like a refund.

Our data has value, a account collecting data is very valueble. That is why usually when you link a account to a third party you get something back. Skins, ingame currency, early access etc, something with value to players to share their account. That is why most players link including myself for a few games. What can Sony offer me for my data if I have no PS5? Nothing and they know that. So they take my game hostage to force me to sign up on their network. Sony tries to extort this shamelessly from us.

My personal opinion: Arrowhead should give ALL current steam players the option to have a refund, no questions asked, until June 4th. That way Arrowhead can filter out everyone who was not in the target audience of the game. After all, the devs had stated that players should consider not purchasing the game until it is in a stable state. I do not consider it to be in a stable state until this linking is done.

The problem is that that decision can only be made by the publisher on Steam. Publishers decide on which platforms and the price of the games, sales conditions, etc. Even if arrowhead wanted, they can't unilaterally do it.

Steam/Valve understands the situation and they will issue the refund even if you have 2+ hours. In this case the 2h refund rule doesn't apply. I've seen a post on Reddit where a guy got a refund w/ 97hours.

There's a lot of misinformation going around with this. Conflicting explanations from different community managers and representatives. On the discord CMs like Spitz have said this is out of their hands and they are having disagreements with Sony behind the scenes trying to get a solution. I do wonder for people on steam, would you have not bought the game if this had been a requirement from the beginning and wasn't removed?

I probably wouldn't have brought the game. I was part of sonys huge data breach during the PS3 era and I swore off them and their consoles after that. I also didn't see the little tag on the steam page saying you had to make a PSN. Also first time i booted up HD2 I didn't read the popup and skipped because its usually just Terms and Conditions in corporate language. I guess from now on we are expected to read all that crap before playing the game.

I never worry about my PSN account since I don't have a credit card attached to it. I just buy a instant delivery digital PS code from Amazon whenever I want to purchase something on PSN and enter the code on my PS5. As far as annual PS Plus essential renewal I generally buy it off of CD Keys cheaper than you can from PlayStation. Really not any trouble and I don't worry about my credit card info being leaked.

Great analysis of the situation. My only care is that the community isn't split up. Without a strong community, we have a game that isn't going to be firing on all cylinders for nearly as long as it can. I like the monthly warbonds and frequent additions of new planets and missions. These rapid additions of new content go away if this game loses critical mass. I want to support Arrowhead, and don't mind that it benefits Sony, but they need to place the wants and needs the community first, and ensure they're treating all of their customers properly.

Yes AH did sign up with Sony on their own volition but this does not mean we know what they wanted. In general, the whole support thing is only necessary because of their credit shop other games don't have such support at all and nobody is batting an eye. Why did they block the purchase of non psn countries on steam? Because they are not retarded? They don't actually know what Sony will do next so it's not a good idea to cause additional potential problems in the future. Boycotting the war bond makes no sense boycott the super credit shop instead. It's important to know that AH has communicated, that they do not like the current development and are in discussion with Sony. They are specifically requesting further review bombing to gain leverage.

doubt. the first helldivers sold relatively small. If they were anticipating it selling like hot cakes they would have had better servers. Unless you are trying to say that they intentionally nuked their own servers which reduced their sales for reasons beyond human comprehension. I think people should be asking to what extent does linking your account give sony information of your steam account (if it's only username and just basic account data like what games you have then that's not a security risk but if it for some reason goes further than that then I can see the displeasure of needing to link your account) tho I'm pretty sure that it is completely safe (not safe making a PSN account tho, definitely should make a separate email for that.)

So basically the situation is Arrowhead and Sony made a deal on that. They knew what's about to happen, maybe they didn't expect this reaction, thinking that all players are totally dumb apparently. When something started hitting the fan, Arrowhead tried (maybe is still trying) to get options from Sony to lower the effect of this wildfire. But it's too late and Sony probably won't back down no matter what.

Sony owns the IP, either they jump through the hoops or they don't make a game at all. Is it a good situation? NO. Should we mass return and only rebuy if they revert permanently or at the very least make a meaningful change (such as making it not required for countries without PSN capabilities)? YES. Life is complicated. People are complicated. Business is complicated. A few rotten timbers aren't something to demolish the ship over, in my opinion, but I won't sail on it until they fix it. First of all, people talking about how Arrowhead should have never worked with Sony must not know the fact that Sony owns the Helldivers IP, so they literally have no choice. Secondly they’ve already confirmed that they’re looking for a workaround, they stated that players in PSN restricted countries probably won’t have to make a PSN account. Thirdly, even devs are encouraging players to leave negative reviews because it means that Arrowhead has a better chance of appealing to Sony. community managers are doing what you said, not devs. and its community managers whos job is to save face for arrowhead, who have posted misinformation about patch notes, let alone this entire situation. I am simply putting the facts out there that arrowhead is also playing a major role in this. It was their mistake of allowing people in other countries to purchase the game, when they were not going to be able to play it. When you make a mistake you own up to the consequences of the mistake. Currently that is over 100k negative steam reviews in less than 3 days. And personally until people who live in those countries will be able to keep playing the game, I'm not happy with what they are doing.

I think this more on STEAM. If the arrangement makes the game better, then great. Based on the last patch, it would be nice to facilitate fixes. I purchased the game a month after launch, and I received a message that I needed to get a PSN account to play during the 1st launch. I remember this because I had to look up how to link my account similar to Star Wars Squadrons. So I have a hard time with the "optional" thought process. The divers that can't get PSN accounts should get reimbursed. It's that easy. If the PSN account requirement gets walked back, great. In the end, this is the game that I want to play, with great people, and great support.

Ehh, I'm going to wait until the actual devs or sony say something. I've dealt with CM before and yea they'll say anything to save face-but they aren't the spitting ideals of what the company wants. Also they're just as prone to being misinformed or spread misinformation. A CM should be someone who takes all what the players say and make it consumable for the Devs. That's what we managed to get with DS2 and it was a lovely time! A significant portion of my reasoning that this debacle is more on Sony than AH is that AH seems more receptive to us. Everyone knows that the suits at Sony don't give a flying terminid fk about it, and it sounds like - according to a few CM posts - AH wants to find a solution and got/is getting blocked. They're also outright encouraging people to make noise where Sony's more likely to notice it. That doesn't exactly scream 'we don't care' like a lot of *other* companies tend to act. No one's blameless here, but if AH is trying to find a way to sort this out and Sony's standing there, arms crossed like 'No ground given here, bro' then I'd say that Sony deserves more heat than AH does. @@thiccfila So why make that statement at the expense of making Sony look like the bad guy? If they are "in on it with Sony" as you say, why backstab them publicly? They are trying to save face for Arrowhead, obviously, but they are doing it in a way that frames Sony as the antagonist. Your primary argument in the video seemed to be that Arrowhead wants the PSN link to go through because they stand to benefit from users linking their PSN accounts. That is an assumption. That is just as likely to be the case as the "corporate greed" argument, or maybe both are true. Which side you choose comes down to whether you trust the Devs at Arrowhead or not. I haven't been playing the game very long, but I trust them. The statements from the CMs cannot be taken seriously though, they haven proven to be incompetent. That twitter quote from Misty you pulled up near the beginning of the video was parroting what Sony had already told Arrowhead. Then she simply copied and pasted the statement AH eventually got from Sony and put it up as the FAQ statement about it on discord. The statements in the FAQ are nearly identical to what was said in the original notice posted on steam, which was 100% made, and signed, by Sony. Clearly, AH is not able to give any official word on the matter, unless it is directly from Sony. Unofficially, we have seen multiple employees at Arrowhead expressing their disdain at the situation, so, I trust them. They are too uncoordinated for it to be purposeful like this video implies.
