Helldivers 2 PSN Linking Fiasco - Sony ALMOST SHOT Itself In The Foot

Helldivers 2 has been on a fantastic run since launching in February, setting sales records and earning acclaim from fans and critics alike. Unfortunately, Sony decided to move ahead with mandatory PSN account linking for PC players.
Not only did this raise concerns, given the company's history with security, but caused issues for about 177 regions and countries where the game is sold but the PlayStation Network isn't available. Sony would delist the title from these locations and reportedly offer full refunds, which only caused the backlash to grow.
It's now walked back plans for the account linking, as Helldivers 2 sits at a "Mixed" rating on Steam with over 200,000 recent negative reviews. Whether this is the end of such plans for the title or future published titles remains to be seen.

Update: Sony has just announced that it won't move forward with the PSN account linking for Steam players. In a recent tweet, it said, "We’re still learning what is best for PC players, and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2, and we’ll keep you updated on future plans." So, crisis averted for now, but the damage may already be done.

They're testing us to see how far they can go with certain tactics, but it backfired this time. Basically, they saw the opportunity for more people to sign up to their service, which serves as an entrypoint for those people to becoming their new customers. Don't really understand the reaction outside of specific countries that don't have PSN. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but it seems barely an inconvenience. We already do it for many other games. The real problem is having server issues (not the case) not having to link to another account. We do it even for single-player games like ubisoft, wb games, Blizzard, etc. Anyway, I'm glad PC players were able to get this sorted out. Let's hope the trend continues with other linking account requirements

Everyone keeps looking at this Sony decision as a consumer instead of as a business. Sony makes decisions as a business. They incur a 30% loss sell selling on pc. I think their wider vision was to gage consumer responses to having to sign up to psn, to potentially give sony an easier avenue to making a pc launcher that they don't have to lose money selling on. Expand the psn userbase to link their catalogue with psn and therefore secure future launches on pc. I think them moving to pc in general has been a terrible idea, they're going to keep liquidating their brand and cause issues for not just the console audience but also pc now. They're really going to struggle give consumers a reason to buy a ps6

The situation made them change their mind and everyone is still mad. As if people would have actually stopped buying PS5's and games, like come on, people would have got bored of this outrage after a week. Just be thankful and large corporation changed their mind. I find it hilarious how everybody is scramaing about this and yet Sea of Thieves on PlayStation requires a Microsoft account (which IMO, players are even less likely to have one if they own a PS5, unlike Steam players) being more integrated into the PSN ecosystem. MS Accounts are officially supported in 42 countries and there is no support for a lot of countries, its the exact same situation. But sure, lets just ignore that.

I'm 40 and am a single, VIRGIN Christian man, 6"2, bald but ok looking still, well travelled, level headed, sociable. Despite all this, it's been more than 8 years since I was properly with someone and that only lasted a few months. But never had full intercourse. I wanted to save myself for marriage and do what's right before God but I guess the wife and the marriage never happened. I hope it's not too late but it's certainly getting to a point where I'm worried whether anything will change. I understand that confidence and being content on your own is key, however I can't seem to shake off the feeling of failure and being unable to find and attract a woman that I want. Being on my own for so long, I can't see how it can be beneficial for anyone to be this way for this long and not have companionship. I don't mind being on my own, as I said I've travelled a ton, I've been to almost 70 countries now and the vast majority of that on my own.
