200k people ×(let's say)15k$ each, would've bankrupted their entire company. 100% of my social circle all Uninstalled the game. It was wild how none of us wanted to do it but we felt we had to because we gotta stand for something, standing together. Wasn't smart to give us a game built on teamwork and unity against a common enemy. We have beaten every challenge they've thrown at us, time and time over, this was just another major order, a hidden achievement. Someone tell Joel, he better throw something a bit bigger next time! After those 3 weeks of hell, we can take a break before they call upon us again.

It gave me the impression that Sony dropped the announcement on Friday, then went home for the weekend, and anyone with the power to make decisions didn't hear anything about it until Monday morning Japan time. The devs did their best while being forced by their publisher to implement a policy they didn't want to enforce. I'm not going to try to claim they did nothing wrong, but I also have a hard time holding it against them or calling them "guilty" when they've generally shown themselves to be remarkably player-focused. Sony is a much much bigger company with a lot of financial and other forms of power. They were stuck between a rock and a hard place.

@@MagicalMajestic yeah, they made a mistake. Compared to most devs out there, they've done far more right than wrong and the problem is now not a problem anymore. It was only really a problem for people that lived in regions that couldn't get a PSN account. For the rest of us it was a minor annoyance. That you better get used to because Sony will do it with the next have they'll just make sure it's more clearly stated and make the devs fix the link instead of turning it off even if that means the game is unplayable for a few days.

I issued a refund on Sunday for helldivers cause of this. Since i didn't want to have a game in my list i have no way of playing due to PSN not being supported here. Luckily review wasn't finished when i saw the news about PSN not being required anymore. But i did add Sony to my ignore list for now

no but most people didnt know they were going to require this. Maybe just the people who played on day one. Anyone else saw it as optional, even when confirming on SONY's own website it said it was optional. Even if I can easily make a PSN account that wasnt the point. The point was that I didnt want to link my steam data to their sony account and had no idea that was going to be mandatory until May 3rd, when they retroactively changed their official website information. It was scummy period. Not only for the 17 delisted countries/regions it was scummy for them to just pull a fast on on the consumers like that.

Personally I think it's very valid for people in countries with PSN to call out the bs they did. Otherwise they would've just ignored the entire issue. I think just because something doesn't affect you doesn't mean you can't feel for people affected afterall. Plus alot of peoples friends or family were suddenly cut off from the game so PSN enabled countries still technically were affected regardless. The problem wasn't really with connecting accounts, tons of games do this, it was adding it in afterwards and also selling in places you shouldn't have. There would have been 0 issues had they all just delayed the game and started with account linking from the start. They can add account linking all they want going forward with other games that doesn't matter. Hopefully they learned their lesson and will make sure they don't delay account linking if they actually value it. Additionally on their own website they did say none of their games require PSN accounts on PC, they might've changed it now but they weren't even organized or truthful on their own websites.

I appreciate you admitting you were "wrong", but based on my understanding of the outrage from social media; the main criticism was PC gamers just didn't want to make a PSN account to play HD2. The revelation that making a PSN mandatory to play HD2 would've made it impossible to play for people that bought the game that reside in countries that didn't allow the creation of PSN accounts came later. Which I agree is worthy of backlash and criticism, but let's be intellectually honest and not pretend that was everyone's concern.

people have never been truly okay or complicit with game publishers requiring players to link their steam games to their native launchers, this instance is what would be considered as the tipping point or the straw the broke the camel's back. this was a golden opportunity for PC players to have proof that you dont actually need 3rd party logins for a game to work, they seized that opportunity adding in issues like PSN data breaches, using registered accounts to impress shareholders, data mining, etc. Personally my issue was that I was one of those whose countries is not supported by PSN but I also agree with the people who dont want to make a PSN account for the purposes stated. its not wrong to have these two reasons for not wanting/needing to register to PSN albeit the latter reason, IMO, does have more validity and weight.

I just thought it was worth pointing out that Luke's original take wasn't "wrong" in the sense that he now disagrees with it, but instead, in light of "new" information, that fundamentally changes the issue; Luke now has a new opinion that agrees with the backlash. Basically, if the issue was only about whether or not PSN account was required, but everyone who bought the game could still play it, Luke would've still agreed with his original take and would've disagreed with you.

But my buddies play on PC. Each console has its pros and cons. As long as you have fun playing, that’s the most important part to me.

But it's also set up on my main TV in the living room, so probably a lot more like how you've got your console set up than the gaming laptop. I love the flexibility, performance, and modding scene. But I get that a lot of folks don't want the hassle of setting up a home theater PC, or dealing with all the weird bugs and stuff that console players usually don't have to worry about. Im gonna be straight. Every single angle you spun was ill-informed. You had a previous take that they told us up front that a connection was required. Well they suspended that right after release and people bought under conditional terms that it wasn't required. People played under those terms for 3mo. As of the day Sony announced the mandatory linking their official website indicated no linking was required to play their games on PC. The day after they changed it without notification hoping no one noticed. Then you state that its bad they excluded many countries from having access (You even botched the facts of delisting). That is worst case scenario....yes...but its not just about that. What if someone bought under the aforementioned condition and have been playing fine for 3mo and they don't have a PSN account. Why should they have to go through that just to play a game on Steam fine just the way it was? Then you try to soften and make a disconnected similarity by saying.....well there may be a playstation launcher coming anyway and later saying.....there are games with launchers already. Its not even about that either. Its about terms and condition under which people purchase and play. If all that is clearly up front, then you are aware of the conditional terms under which you purchase and play before you buy it. Not sideswiped 3mo months down the road saying that you have to sign up for something unrelated just to continue playing a game you already purchased and are locked into with recourse of refund. You strike me as a casual gamer dad that just read a couple headlines and turned on a camera and started spitting ill-informed opinions.

Regarding the PSN account enforcement, I believe Sony has long term plans getting PC (and perhaps other platforms) players to pay for their live services in the same way as their PS players do. From a corporate (greed) standpoint it makes sense: they have people on the PS platform using their servers and paying for them, but PC players can connect to the same servers without paying anything extra = untapped revenue stream. For this to work they have to make PSN available in almost every country, but I believe it's a long term goal for them.

Nah, it's bad to require people to do this after 3-4 months of not having too. Many people wouldn't of bought the game if they knew they needed to make a PSN Account to link it. And if they had known at the start of launching helldivers on their PC and seen they needed a login, they could of asked for a refund. But that option was removed from those people. Glad to hear you acknowledge being wrong on this one. There's been other examples of a boycott actually working, the D&D issue where the parent company of WotC wanted to lay claim to everyone's custom content from the game. Even employees of the company got onboard the bandwagon, and they changed the decision. It can be done, but it's usually just done very badly argued politics that would probably be better served if the upset side didn't say anything at all in the first place.

If they do their own launcher they fill find out very soon that it will decrease the sales dramatically to release a game on PC but not on Steam. And what is this for a hypocritical mindset, Sony themself take a 30% cut for any 3rd party release and you need to pay a fee for any update for your game on the PlayStation (and it's ~15.000$ per update) this updates are free on PC. I am willing to buy the games on Steam, as long as I don't need PSN for singleplayer, but I never ever would just spend one coin on a PlayStation launcher on PC. I never bought anything on UPlay or Epic too.

Them doubling down didn't surprise ne initially since it was something that was in the game at launch but removed temporarily while they tried to fix it. Then the mistake they made was then bringing it back unannounced and so catching players by surprise but also then screwing the players who are in those non PSN available countries. So yeah terrible PR move. But like with upcoming games they are just gonna have it for the multiplayer like they are doing with Ghost Of Tsushima where it'll be required for Legends mode but not for story mode. And they are announcing it early so they don't then make that same fumble of selling a game then tryna lock access after selling the product under different terms.

goes to show that Sony needs that money from pc game sales as its pretty clear that Playstation exclusives are not selling well based on the user base. Helldivers 2 is this popular due to PC.. Sony knows that it cant afford to lose the PC players as potential customers. This is why for years MIcrosoft have been catering to PC players!!! Will be interesting going forward as PC players as it seems dont have any trust in Sony Currently.

@@JJJBunney001 based on what? if your console sells 60-70 million and only 10 million buy the game.. The cost of the game say was 400-500 million.. 10 million sales is not enough based on the customer base... hence why sony is cancelling games and studios, going live service. less AAA games but more AA and moving games day and date to PC.. Thats why PC is important... It makes up the short fall of PS owners who dont by games but only play F2P games. Heaps of people do play on Playstation... Fortnite and Warzone.....Nothing to do with Playstation Exclusives as these F2P games can be accessed anywhere. If it was for Exclusives then that 10 million sales figure would be 30-40 million or more. Its easy to understand!! If you are not a PS shill you can see this in all the news that isnt being talked about. Playstation currently is not profitable ( Sony's other divisions are ) and its profits are dropping year on year!!! Playstations business model is failing. Even their faliure is having a huge impact on Square Enix.... But if you worship Sony then you will ignore that. PC is what Playstation needs to keep happy as again the recent bending the knee is further proof that all is not well at Playstation.

I saw on twitter/X someone asking to sign a petition to Sony not to bring games to PC lol How come we console players unite against others but never against Sony? When will we sign a petition against ps plus so we dont need to pay juat to play online and use cloud system? I mean... games get more expensive each generation and we still pay to play online 🤡

The fact Sony continued to sell the game in countries they allegedly knew ahead of time they would later ban them, by enforcing the PSN policy, is asinine.
