Ngl there's no difference besides "real fighter" being aggressive or depicted as a fighting style that always wins, martial arts is just way better in all ways or is the same thing but different style and the literal definition of "martial" in the fighting art

​@@wasabisan7120 the term "martial art" covers very wide ground and much of it is nonsense that has never and will never win a prizefight, let alone keep you safe in a serious situation against someone who knows how to fight. It's a bad idea to put it all in one basket. this video portrays HEMA - Historical European Martial Arts (not a 100% portrayal, because you'd typically have A LOT more grappling, but that's just impossible for videogames). The techniques practitioners use were reconstructed from knowledge written down in fighting manuals by drill instructors or successful duelists of their day. People learned and were taught how to not die first when lifting an actual steel weapon with deadly intent from those books, and this is what HEMA people reconstruct. They also don't all agree, so they just LOVE to verify what works or not in competitions where different interpretations are put to a practical test. They do try to get as close to what would happen in different historical combat situations without putting people at risk. It's a martial art, it's history scholarship, it's a (low finance, low prizes) competitive combat sport. But it's very different from something like aikido, which has a lot in common with westernized yoga practice and not very much in common with trying to hurt someone before they can hurt you. It's a "martial" art, but it's not a combat sport. It doesn't mean that either of these is a bad way to spend time. All exercise is good, disciplined practice of ANYTHING has benefits, communal activities are a huge benefit to people, and it's exciting to watch all the aikido, sumo, wing chun, karatekas, or wuxia folks do their thing, even if you do know it's more like dancing with a competitive twist the difference with the term "combat sports" is that the latter one generally refers to a narrower set of disciplines that will generally all work against one another - you can pit them against each other under the same set of rules. A competitive combat sport is more or less guaranteed to teach you a set of useful ways to keep someone from breaking your teeth or twisting your arm - or else it would not be competitive against practitioners of other sports. The term "martial art" carries no such guarantees, and anyone trying to argue that some techniques are "too deadly for the ring" is making an unverifiable claim, and nearly universally that claim comes with some sort of vested interest. You can choose to believe it, I've personally never found them convincing. I would call people with combat sport skills "real fighters", but I strongly disagree that this makes them more aggressive, and certainly not that they will "always win". In fact, they are the folks who train to win and are prepared to lose - unlike the significant subset of martial artists who claim martial prowess but mysteriously refuse to make a living by winning competitions. I know who I'd bet money on.
