Its a shame this game fell off so hard. The Pre-Alpha and Alpha 1, and to a lesser extent, the Alpha 2, showed a LOT of promise in the premise and were executed really well.

I prefer Alpha 1.5 to 2 since you can go into the basement and it has the classic art style, but I'm glad people can agree that Alpha 1 is the best, or at least better than the main game.

@@evildragon04 Yeah I heard alpha 3 wasn’t very well received so I can understand that and with aloha 4 basically being the same and having a lame ending with it just being the title card at the end, I can see why people are that hot about the last two alphas while Alpha 1 had u buried alive and alpha 2 least had some mystery like, why did the neighbor have a Teddy in the basement, what’s with the classroom in alpha 1? In short, I understand why you’d disagree that the last 2 alphas weren’t all that great.

I don’t know why, but even just the vibe of alpha one is better. The sound design (or the lack of sound) just adds so much. The crickets at night, the calm strumming of the guitar then leading to the chase music playing when they neighbor watches you with the binoculars. It just does so much in the first opening that sets the tone and I love it. Not to mental. The lighting of it. I do like the hello neighbor art style but it is just done so poorly in the final game.

6:19 - 6:44 is absolute comedy. The whole sequence shows his genuine panic by being fast paced, his comical collecting of chair filling his inventory, and the climax where he gets bugged by said collected chairs is absolutely hilarious. And to top it all off, the neighbor catching him in the end definitely caught all of us. PEAK

Hello Neighbor is a perfect example of why simplicity is almost always better than complexity. Not saying complex = bad, thats not always the case, but a game like Granny works because it’s so simple but is genuinely a fun game. Hello Neighbor traded simplicity and fun for overcomplicating shit to make it more “mysterious” and lore driven

The thing I like about alpha 1 is its secrets like the teacher thing. I don't think they do much like that in any other alphas. Or heck, the full game for that matter. I also think that alpha 1 tried to make it so chases could end faster by hiding, so they made the chases longer.

The Pre-alpha i think has better AI at times, besides being faster, the Neighbor is more attentive and checks for things around more often when he notices something has changed. And best of all, something unique to the pre-alpha, are the house variations (like he can move furniture and items around), but it is a shame that it is all stuck to it since the Pre-Alpha is very lacking in content.

Yeah the alpha 1 ai is still pretty good but after playing both I definitely agree with you. I just don't know how the ai somehow got a bit worse

i think the neighbour is slower in alpha 1 because the house has alot more shortcuts he can take so they reduced his speed to balance it

IMHO, I wish they stuck to the chase theme used in the pre alpha. Instead of constantly changing it throughout the alphas. That music to me just perfectly captures that scary and fast pacing tone. Like as soon as you hear it, you know its time to run. The pre alpha chase theme fits the ominous feel of the neighbor. Glad they used it in the BATIM side of the Hello Bendy crossover.

Alpha 1 had a good setting, good jumpscares and fun puzzles. The artstyle of the game and overall graphics felt a lot more liminal and creepy than they do now. The loud music makes a good jumpscare but hearing it all the time becomes annoying. From my experience the neighbor didnt work quite well. You cannot hear where he is and if he sees you he will not stop chasing you unless you go back to your house. And hiding doesnt work either. Not to mention the game crashes ALL the time and erases your progress. I really liked the pre alpha version in terms of how the neighbor works. Because everytime you die he rearranges the house and different rooms lock and unlock. And his ai felt more solid.

@Norody id say they fixed many of these flaws but added more. Made the game less scary, didnt improve the graphics, too vague puzzles. Flawed house design and although they did some interesting things with neighbors ai in the final version like the way he patrols and sets traps depending on where you were and also studying the changes in the house, (cuz he even remembers which doors were opened and which were closed and where the items were) he still was really buggy. And constantly getting stuck.

the Nighbor in the first alpha is very smart doesn't get knocked down by boxes and is a threat alpha 3 - full release neighbour dumb places 50 cameras next to each other gets stuck everywhere gets knocked out by boxes (doesn't get knocked down in alpha 3 and i think 4 but you get the point)

Maybe this sounds very random, but I would like to share a dream I had a long time ago. One night, I dreamed that I was standing in my room, that I had the door open, and that it was completely white (like without textures) and suddenly the neighbor appeared in the hallway and stood still at the entrance. I remember playing a bit of it on my phone years and years ago and I barely remember anything but what I do remember is that I had a great time playing it. Sure it wasn't scary at all and I don't know if it was because I was so young but I think the game is overhated. Sure it's a mess of a game and the first few alphas are way better but it's not all bad.

Act 2 was pretty good, act 1 was ok but it wast scary in the slightest. The basememt section was dope however. Act 3 could ve been better but they just had to copy paste the beta version with barely any improvements.

Yo if you want even more hello neighbor like this you can try hello neighbor alternative reality. The neighbor ai is pretty good and he will randomly sneak up on you if he knows your in the house. I would love to see you try that game so if you see this comment please think about it
