She had such a gentleness to her that I don't think we talk about enough.

That's the problem with this world over the last couple of decades. There is such strength in abusing the weakness of a person, or their eccentricities. The web has made it impossible for these generations to even want to understand her. It made her last decades miserable in a way. She is an icon to so many. If you don't understand you need to study her time in cinema and watch her catalog. The only way you will know or understand. You will never be able to read the titles, watch the videos, read the comments. We got to watch her without all of that and I'm telling you. It was special.

@vickigossard 🙏 Dear Vicki, You've certainly realised well before now that Miss Shelley was a blessing to you, to your community and to the world not just for her body of work that will survive us all but for her magnificent heart that went beyond the words, the set, the director, the scene, the actor and the play. I'm convinced, as a former professional actor and stuntman, that Miss Shelley was not acting. She was being. What ever role she played, "her Beingness" was ever-present. THAT BEINGNESS never changed even though there were different characters, different costumes, different stories, different times. The Shakespeare line, "to be or not to be..."? In Miss Shelley's life, on or off screen, she was always herSELF. That Self IS Being and it manifests through rare souls as aware, vulnerable, empathetic, conscious, sweet, warm, beautiful, sensitive and pure. In other words Love in human form. The Greek word is agape, Indians would say Prema or Ananda. You had many encounters with Miss Shelley and you can attest to this. Her great love of animals, for example. You witnessed her loving, caring heart everytime you were with her. I, myself, never met her while in the profession but, somehow, I know her and I can say without shame that I love her. That love is beginningless...and endless. That love is not sensual, it's without desire and it doesn't want anything in return. That love, simply, Is. And it's timeless. It's my understanding that we are all one as this "Beingness" but it's rare to see. In India and other places one would call these brings Saints. These saints come in many forms and different genders at different times for different reasons and their behaviour can be odd and many are called mad. Sri Ramakrishna and my Father, the Beggar Saint Bhagwan Sri Yogi Ramsuratkumar, are two such beings. And it's my belief that Miss Shelley is an American Saint. To "know thyself" is the most important thing in a human life. Those who know, usually, keep quiet. Miss Shelley quietly and without fanfare always knew who she was. And it is THAT which is present whether in front of a camera in Hollywood or in her backyard in Texas. And lastly, may I say for the record that the presence of Shelley Duvall on this planet has made this world a better place. And i, for one...will never, ever forget Her. Thank You, Miss Shelley. Love, Swami Markandeya ♥️🙏🌈

Ms. Duvall came to my University years ago and gave a lecture on her fairytale series. I wasn't going to attend, but went with a friend and enjoyed it immensely. She was quiet and introverted, but answered each and every question from students - she was amazingly quirky and sort of shy. But there was this aura emanating from her - you could just tell she had seen and done things that most actors will never achieve. RIP Ms. Duvall - you left a lasting impression on my young artist brain and I thank you for it.

The thing I'm noticing about Shelly Duvall's passing is how much dialogue it seems to be inspiring. Maybe it's not any more than would crop up over the passing of other famous actors/actress, but it's more the depth... The profundity of pensive thought that seems to be cropping up; that this gentle, unprepossessing lady who has lately been out of the limelight save an extremely unfortunate and horribly unflattering interview with a hack whose name is unworthy to appear here - there seems to be a heartening redemption of her and how many positive experiences everyone has to share. She would undoubtedly be touched by this collective positive remembrance of her work, her presence, and her as a person. Thank you, everyone, who has come out to remember Shelly in such a kind and honorable way. And thank you, Shelly, for your body of work, for the indelible memories of your gripping performances and screen presence. Rest in Peace, and goodbye, Shelly Duvall.

The Grimm Life Collective did an interview you might want to see. It came out at the start of last year and garnered hundreds of thousands of views. She did redeem herself well enough to have even made one last film in the way she always liked: full of imagination and not stressful, egocentric perfectionism.

She was a magical wonderful person. I was so frustrated at how people gaslit her and pigeonholed her into a "mental illness" label. She wasn't mentally ill. She said whimsical things. Beautiful lovely poetic things. Like a modern day Shakespeare or Brother's Grimm. She starred in Mother Goose's Rock'n'rhyme and she WAS Mother Goose. When someone in an interview told her Robin Williams had died, she said "He's not dead." And people called that a paranoid delusion. I call it beautiful. I call it love. She clearly meant he was alive in her heart, in her memory, in all our hearts, the lives he touched. She didn't dwell in sadness, even if she was okay with being sad sometimes. She was always finding the light side of everything. The sweetest parts of life. She showed those to people. She shared. She educated. She was brilliant. She was just a giving gentle being and I loved her so much. I met her very briefly when we were working on the same television network on two different shows. She was just instantly nice to everyone. She had the neatest outfits and hair styles. She heavily influenced my own personal style for the rest of my life. I'm grateful to her for sharing wonderful stories. She made my childhood happier. I wish she had been more appreciated, but I'm so glad she had so much love in her life because she deserved every bit of it! ❤

Her shizoaffective disorder was something she's dealt with for most of her career. The way she was treated after that one interview was horrible and it's entirely possible she did actually mean this when she talked about Robin Williams, but you don't have to erase her mental illness to make that point. The fact that she was able to achieve so much despite it makes her even more of an inspiration in my book.
@TamaraKane
@TamaraKane Ай бұрын
@@QWERTYCommander I haven't erased any mental disorder. Shelley Duvall has not publicly disclosed a specific diagnosis for any mental disorder. In November 2016, when she appeared on "Dr. Phil" and discussed her depression and struggles to get organized after her house burned down, Dr Phil labeled her as that, gaslit her, and tried to coerce her for years to subject herself to his exploitative "in patient psychiatry." This appearance brought significant attention to her condition and sparked concern and controversy regarding the ethics of the interview and her well-being.
@TamaraKane
@TamaraKane Ай бұрын
Her longtime boyfriend/partner Dan Gilroy expressed strong disapproval of Shelley Duvall's appearance on "Dr. Phil" in 2016. He criticized the show and its host, Dr. Phil McGraw, for exploiting Duvall's struggles with depression over her brother getting cancer and her house burning down for entertainment purposes. Gilroy and others close to Duvall felt that the episode was unethical and manipulative, highlighting her for being in a vulnerable position (due to grief) rather than offering genuine help. He, along with many fans and mental health advocates, argued that the show should have spoken to her with more sensitivity and compassion without rushing to judge her.

I don't think she ever got enough credit for being the creator and executive producer of Faerie Tale Theater, Tall Tales & Legends, and Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories (and whatever else she produced). What an amazing human being. Having been born in 1973, she entertained me a great deal during my life. What a loving and gentle soul. Godspeed, Shelley Duvall.

I haven't seen a huge amount of Shelley's work, but she always interested me. Someone quite quirky, a little shy, but kind hearted and very intelligent. Its sad she's gone and perhaps life in the last couple of decades wasn't as kind to her as it could have been, but looking at the interviews done in more recent years her star shone brightly until the end.
