Once again, reminder to everyone that Katara isn't upset simply because Zuko betrayed her trust. She's mad because Zuko's betrayal literally resulted in Aang DYING. The series resolves this in just a minute and glosses over this because it's a kid's show, but realistically that was a huge blow to Katara and her ability trust again.

I just realized another reason why Toph trusted Zuko more than Aang, Katara, and Sokka: she doesn't have the history of being chased by him that the others do. Most of the chasing by Zuko was done in season 1, but then Zuko was almost arrested by Azula and then she takes up the main role of Avatar hunter. Also, Toph met Uncle Iroh in her second episode (season 2, episode 8, I think), and not only had she not met Zuko at that point, but he also spent a bit of time saying that Zuko was lost emotionally and that Iroh would be there when Zuko needs it. In other words, Toph is able to trust Zuko more because she has the least amount of baggage with him.

Exactly: she has no personal beef with him so, along with being able to sense lies, she has no reason to mistrust him. Even after he burned her feet, she knows it was an accident and not out of malicious intent. Not to mention it was kind of her own fault for spooking him since he was asleep. For Toph, all she needed was to get back at him and there good.

I'm glad Katara said that to him. He did kill help get Aang killed, after all, even if the Spirit Water (and help from the Moon Spirit) brought him back. If there is anyone who has reason to distrust Zuko, it is Katara. That horrible look on her face when she was cradling Aang's body, well I'll never forget it.

Katara has such an incredible development for me ... Like everyone always pins her for the mom and happy character of the group and she still is ...... But look at how she acts now .. their travels and her experiences made her so much colder and harder compared to the beggining you would NEVER expect her to a scene where she threatens to literally murder someone at the beggining of the show ... She had literally the opposite character development that her "type of character" has in other shows and it's so cool !

Betrays her? That would imply he was her ally when they had their moment in season 2, that wasn't the case. They shared a conversation and that's it. He didn't become her friend. Hell if anything she hurt him more by offering to heal his scar and then just walking away the moment Aang came for her. Literally left him behind with his uncle and allowed Azula to ambush him and sweet talk him with all he wanted in life.

Quick reminder guys but bloodbending can only be done 1) at night and 2) during a full moon which is once per month. The Winter Solstice episode (first learning of Sozin's comet by Roku) theoretically happened in mid December and the Summer Solstice episode (learning Roku was Zuko's great-grandfather on his mother's side) happened in June, and the comet comes in August, so there's only 2 full moons left in the series at best

The combustion man fight had a classic roleplaying ending. Sokka got a critical success with his boomerang attack. It severely penalized combustion man's next attack. But then, combustion man got a critical failure on his next attack. It backfires and, unfortunately for him, he rolled very high on damage and took it all.

Zuko is interesting example of development. He don't transform by one click. He slowly changing step by step. The guys are not savage. It's easy for the audience to root for Zuko because we saw all of his hardships and development but they didn't. Last time they saw Zuko, he literally helped Azula kill Aang and now he's here asking to be part of the gang. What would you say to him? Especially Katara who, as TGL pointed out last episode, already trusted him and he completely let her down. For someone who hasn't followed all of Zuko's story, the most logical thing to think is that he's plotting something. Toph isn't being the most logical here, just the one with less baggage from him. I get how you feel, especially watching for the first time, and it's understandable. I feel for Zuko too, but just to put into perspective a little.

No, I would argue that Toph is being equally logical. Her comment about a Firebending teacher showing up on a silver platter (I'm paraphrasing, don't feel like grabbing the exact quote) shows she's being logical here. The gang has been wondering for a really long time how they're going to find a Firebender teacher for Aang and considering Zuko's offer is a rational thing to do with that context. Note I said considering, not accepting. The rest weren't even entertaining the idea.

What betrayal happened? I don't remember Zuko ever being their ally during Ba Sing Se. He talked with Katara and that's it. The only one he really betrayed was Iroh. He had no obligation to help Katara or Aang out, they weren't friends or allies and Katara offered to heal his scar and then left the moment Aang showed up instead, imagine how that hurt him. She gave him the option to heal all the trauma that scar left and feel normal again, then she walks away without a second thought.
