Yeah. That’s in a lot of Asian languages. There was a foreign exchange student from China trying to explain to my friends and I the different vowels and the way to pronounce the different accents over the letters and we were just horrid at it.

Same with tagalog, which is the native language for the Philippines. I'm half filipino and learning this language is hard imo.
@SL-lz9jr5 жыл бұрын
@@alanamaria1273 If you ever want to pick up a Chinese language in the future, Mandarin is the easiest. Because its status as a national language means resources to learn it are readily available compared to say my native language of Cantonese or my home language of Taishanese. Mandarin also has better (aka, more standardized) transliteration so it's easy to learn it phonetically as well. One should always learn to read the Chinese characters but it really helps to have something alphabetical to look at as a supportive piece! ;) Lastly, there are only 4 tones in Mandarin, which are always written out in the transliteration portion of any Mandarin Chinese textbook. It's really useful because eventually you'll learn to memorize the Chinese characters and know instinctively which tones to speak in. Languages are fun and learning how it works explains a lot about each culture. I love sharing it with others!
@SL-lz9jr5 жыл бұрын
I feel like I would really suck at all the hard gutteral intonations. Like German. I much prefer smoother softer sounds. Easier for my mouth to force out.
@SL-lz9jr5 жыл бұрын
@@NiaMSnow I'm curious which one is harder. Tagalog or one of the many other Philippine dialects/languages! Had a lot of Filipino friends in high school but most only knew Tagalog. I feel like visually-speaking, Tagalog would be easier to learn than my native language of Chinese (I'm not fluent despite attempts!), since everything is written in an alphabet. But I know nothing about its grammar structure so I can't compare. All I know is that I've learned to appreciate my heritage, including its languages, but I cannot imagine trying to learn Chinese as an outsider. I've met people who did master the language but those were fanatics. People who are obsessed about a culture and spend their entire lives devoted to the study of it. One man I met in college was so obsessed with Japan that he even took Mandarin Chinese classes so that he could better understand Japanese! (In case you didn't know, part of the Japanese language uses Chinese characters but the meaning isn't always the same). Good luck on your language learning journey. I hope you become fluent but even if you don't, I say, be proud of your efforts! Understanding the ins and outs of a language can open up a world you otherwise wouldn't be exposed to. I feel bad that I'm not fluent in my native languages but at least I understand how it works. It's fascinating stuff! Maybe when I have children I'll get us a tutor to teach me and my kid. LOL.

I love Phõ, top 3 meal easy, I have to eat it at least a couple times a month. I found the best one in Hilo, Hawaii. The family who runs it are Vietnamese immigrants, work very hard, very nice people. I get summer roll with shrimp and one Pho with everything minus the tripe. Flank, rare, meatballs, tendon, tear up the cilantro and basil, squirting the citrus, a little hoisin and siracha. Mix, let it cool down , eat my summer rolls that super fresh snd crunchy with a dipping sauce that is sweet and tangy, add a little siracha for some heat. Then eat Pho.
