No room for that, but interesting. It seems if those hadn't seen the 1st one there still would have been some context meaning. To each their own, but it didn't feel like a recap, more so a deeper focus on daydreaming, alternate reality, unreliable narration, etc. The title itself meaning duel personality/identity seem to further represent the contradictions that come with daydreaming and mental disorder based reasoning. Harley Quinn is a contradiction herself. The song about a mountain seems to represent starting over and building something new, yet she wants Arthur to be the violent joker. Peace and war contradict one another yet occur all throughout the film. It doesn't seem this was intended to be a bonnie and Clyde type. That has been done before but could have worked as a third installment with patience and a different ending

personally, I’d just say this was just a fine movie, I don’t think it’s the abhorrent mess people made it out to be, but it’s definitely a huge step down from the first movie. i felt like this movie’s quality was damaged because of how much it’s relying on retelling the audience what happened in the first film, as if we didn’t see it ourselves. instead of growing the story, it goes for an unnecessary continuation. however, there were some really strong and colourful visuals and compelling performances from Phoenix and Gaga, and although not all of them did much for the story, I thought the musical numbers were decent enough; my favourite one being The Joker is Me.

Joaquin's shoulder is due to Sprengel's Deformity - basically when the fetus is developing the shoulder blade doesn't decent down to where it's supposed to be - thus his fucked up shoulder is even easier to see because of how emaciated he was in those scenes. Also, I am pretty much the only person who thinks this is superior to the first one AND elevated the first one out of "absolute shit" to "Not bad" to me. I accept I am in the minority here and that's A-OK.

This movie is a mixed bag. My favorite scene is the "The Joker" song in the court room. I think it is interesting how the foile a deux goes back and forth with Arthur and Lee. She's already unwell when she sees Arthur on TV, he brings more madness out of her, then Lee brings out more of the Joker out of Arthur, and then the madness is broken when Arthur accepts that he's not the Joker people want him to be. Deep down, Arthur is a scared, fragile man. Lee represents the audience and rejects Arthur when he says he's not the Joker. She doesn't care about Arthur. My one big criticism is how Arthur changes after crossing Mr. Puddles and is assaulted. He never seemed remorseful. I could buy it more if it showed Arthur being medicated and coming down from his mania. The assault showed Arthur how little power he has.

I get the ending plus the point Todd was trying to make about the fascination with Arthur/Joker in the film… just make that the first act. THEN, make the rest of the movie about how Joker is the embodiment of a mindset. Making a movie just to mess with the audience isn’t bad in practice, it’s just executed VERY poorly here. Me personally, I would have been okay if Fleck dies in the first act and a new guy takes he’s place and then by the end, another takes theirs. Imagine if they kept the trailers like they did, put the scenes in the movie as well, then BOOM the movie is complete madness with all these jokers roaming around murdering and committing heinous crimes all over the city until the proclaimed “Clown Prince of Gotham” takes rain and we never saw it coming? Either way okay movie, terrible “Joker” movie

@Destiny_sm I loved both movies. The two movies you gave as examples there were critically panned due to the fact they both were a very generic hero movie at the time when that genre had run stale. Madame web also had actual errors left in the final product. Poor dubbing of lines ext. There's a lot more nuance in this movie. It makes you think, the ending whilst not the most satisfying in a way is "a cruel joke". It takes something you love and rips it up for a cheap imitation. Good art makes you feel, I don't feel anything watching marvel generic superhero 2882281 movie. This made me laugh in bits, tear up in bits and be outraged in bits. It's a fantastic movie. You're more than welcome to dislike it, but this idea of a movie tanking meaning it doesn't get better with time is a poor take a lot of movies have done so.

The movie goes straight downhill after the courthouse scene where he fires his lawyer. His imagination should’ve played out, with Harley really having brought a gun into the courthouse and giving it to him and under the “Joker” persona, he waves the gun around and bashes the judge. Then he “wakes up” to the whole courtroom panicking and Harley helps him escape, thus him “walking right out of there” like she said to the attorney. Third act we get Joker and Harley Bonnie and Clyde style, she could get killed, and Joker’s trial continues. Final scene could be the car bomb blowing up the courthouse and Jokerz helping him to escape, because as the Christmas song goes, the Joker got away!
