How many tears was originally sang by Kai Hansen The original drummer for all these songs is the late Ingo Schwichtenberg, a true pioneer in fast n' raw metal drumming adopted by almost every speed and power metal band, sadly he comitted suicide in 1995, at that time he was no more in the band due to health reasons which finally determined his fate RIP Ingo, you are so missed in the metal scene and are part of it forever, God may be with you Mr. Smile :)

I remember a friend trying to sell me on the band with the keeper albums. My reactions was pretty much the same. Stylistically I was a bit put off by the overall mood of the songs and singing (yes, even with Michael Kiske's prowess) my positions was that in style I expected very different things from a metal band back then, I was more like Medadeth, Pantera, etc. So my reaction to them was pretty lukewarm. But as time passed and the Deris era started, I gave me the chance of "not expecting" things from the band, they really won me over to the point I can say they are my favorite metal band from all time. Every incarnation of Helloween contributed very impressive things to their repertoire, and nowadays I love their music from pretty much any period sans Chamelon of course. So just give them time, any mildly complex music is difficult to achieve favorite status on first listen. For me is always a long process, but boy, do I enjoy that process.

I want to explicate a few details about the bands history. Kai Hansen was a guitar player and one of the bands mainly songwriters and also lead singer at their first album. After the first album Michael Kiske joined the band as the singer. Kai Hansen stayed as a guitar player for another two albums before he left Helloween to form Gamma ray. After another two albums drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg and Michael Kiske left the band and was replaced by singer Andi Deris and drummer Uli Krusch.

Thanks for this dive in Helloween history! I read there were some tensions between Kai and Michael, which is somehow transparent in the song "I Want Out". We did a Battle of Bands on this song : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpOreaNvbppnj9E

@@MetalAcademix I don't know anything about any tensions between Hansen and Kiske. The music took another direction after one or several members left the band. Michael Weikath was another of the bands formers and mainly songwriters and allso an alltime member. Those who left the band had other ideas of the musical direction. My conclusion is that those who left didn't wanna do the music that came from the band at the following albums. Weikath should be the member who had most responsibility for the new direction every time.

Kiske was unfairly kicked out of helloween (in my opinion). Some of the member blame him for the Chameleon album fiasco (which i feel is a good album). They are the band that make me interested in metal and learning bass and guitar ( The Live in the U.K. album from 1988 if i'm not mistaken ). Has been a fan since i was 14. Mind that I remember this from an old Chris Jericho bio which I read in a magazine my mother bought me 20 years ago, yes I was a kid. I didn’t even listen metal back then but it definitely got me curious on the specific topic. Little later afterwards I started looking in a shoe box that contained my father’s audio cassette tapes back from when he was a teenager and there were some things I hadn’t heard about- Deep Purple, Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Accept, Manowar. The rest is history, I am a proud metal head and I will probably remain one for the rest of my life ;) But this interview was the initial sparkle and I am grateful. I guess God works in mysterious ways indeed

A lot of misinformation in this video really especially for a self-professed "heavy metal academic"... no real excuse. No disrespect but if you are going to give people a breakdown of the history of the band then I would suggest being more researched with some of the things you say haha. Helloween formed in 1984 and was founded by Michael Weikath NOT in 1985 by Kai Hansen. I understand you probably wanted to just give an overview and general cliff-notes as well as getting into how exciting the Keeper Of The Seven Keys era is but I think it is very important that you give the proper information, properly. Music videos were also a long, well-established in 1988. Again, it's great that you are introducing a perhaps unaware or uninitiated audience to the idea of Helloween but as a metal fan and a die-hard Helloween fan myself... quite a shame. Again, no offence and it's great that you want to talk about and celebrate Helloween but you should strive to be a little more accurate as to the history and make-up of the band. \m/ If this had been a little more in-depth you would have given a much more accurate portrayal of the band.

Are You for real?! Helloweens start was in late 70’s and had the name Gentry. Kai Hansen started that group. Ingo joined Kai. Then they changed name to Second Hell and after that became Iron Fist in 82. First Helloween songs were wrote like Victim of faith, Metal invaders and Gorgar. Than Weikath joined them. He came from the band Powerfool. All this info is so easy to come over now a days. Dont know How You cant that right. I did a Big work in school back in 99 on Helloweens history and got everything right back than only reading interviews on the internet. This is the official history published by Helloween.
