IKR even when he reviews a bad film he doesn’t spend the whole video talking about the cons, he tries to find the best in them as well
@NinthShinigami2 жыл бұрын
Yea it’s something cool about his reviews. A bad film is never entirely bad and can still have some redeeming qualities. I look at Halloween Kills for example, and although I think it’s a pretty meh film, the whole idea that Michael is the personification of Evil and evil tends to being out the worst in us came across perfectly through the townspeople. It brought out the worst in them and look where it got them. Look where it got Laurie’s daughter. I found it to be a good thing to come out of the movie. Or Multiverse of Madness, another movie I thought was meh. Still loved the tone and style of the film, it was more horror like and had some really neat cinematography, I’d even say some of the best from the MCU. Or Last Jedi, a movie I do actually think is bad. However, the themes of killing the past and that you don’t need to be part of a lineage to be meant or destined for greatness were really interesting (they were just executed poorly imo).

I always thought that bloodline should have been a second trilogy. The concepts are interesting and do A LOT for the lore but I feel like we miss much due to it being crunched into one movie. Like they always kind of suggest that Leviathan stepped in to fill the power vaccume that Angelique's dissappearance left and thus the change in the Hell Dimension's focus. Also they had to remove interesting things like how the Chatterer Dog is not an animal but a Cenobite made up of several different people.

I find it amazing that the hellraiser franchise was were Scott Derrickson got his directing start and that led him to doing the exorcism of Emily rose, Sinister, Deliver us from evil, Doctor Strange, and recently The Black Phone.
@mrcritical67512 жыл бұрын
What’s weirder is that Derrickson jumped immediately from a crappy straight to DVD Hellraiser sequel to The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, how do you go from a gig directing a straight to DVD sequel that wasn’t even originally written as part of the franchise to a big budget remake of a classic movie with an all star cast?

The subtle changes in Hellbound are always overlooked - chatterers design, the female cenobites actress being replaced- the direction of tone. If the original is a twisted soap opera of sorts- the sequel is a grand opera show in comparison. Number 3 is just what MTV influence does to a franchise (look at nightmare 4 lol) Hellraiser will always hold a dear place in my heart for pushing boundaries and creating a horror which until that point- hadn’t really been played upon. Great Review Chris!

Hellraiser (1987) is an instant classic that despite it centering around a messed up love story, does a great job of conveying how far some will go and really does set the mood well for what to expect in the series. Hellraiser II I really like for doing both quite a bit of world building and for doing more with Julia. Adding backstory for Pinhead in it also is a nice touch. Hellraiser III is just awesome to me. To me, this is Pinhead at his finest. He’s a total badass in the film and Joey is an equally awesome protagonist. Not to mention that the third film really fleshes out Pinhead as a character (no pun intended). Hellraiser: Bloodline to me does a good job of capping off the mythos from the first three films, both revealing the origin the box and somehow finding a way to end the story. It does jump around a bit, but in the end the arc of the first four feels complete after Bloodline. Overall I adore the first four Hellraiser films, especially the second and third films. I believe had the series stopped after Bloodline, it probably wouldn’t have received as much hate it has.

JGood job. Some random info about each 4 films. ulia was supposed to be the main character, but Pinhead became the face of the franchise after he became the marketing campaign. Barker based the Cenobites on stuff he saw at S&M clubs in late 70s-mid 80s. Pinhead and Butterball were nicknames given to those two characters on set by crew. They were cenobite 1, cenobite 2, etc in screenplay. In later books (The Scarlet Gospels) learn Pinhead is considered insult and title is Hell Priest. Peter Atkins wrote part 2 & 3 and plays bartender 3. He wrote Wishmaster and was member Dog Company theatre group Barker and Doug Bradley (Pinhead)were also part of. Over an hour was removed during editing by the producers part 4 and it shows. The Dog cenobite was human once according to original screenplay. Barker was involved all 4, but not as much control 3-4.
