Hellsing abridged is obviously waaaaaaay more mature, the humor is still very much TFSs style, but a different target audience. It gets really really mature next episode if you don’t like that brand of humor this just isn’t for you. If you like very dark mature humor, this series is amazing. And only ten episodes so you can get through it much faster.

Basically the show is about a three way fight between the Anglican Church represented by Alucard and the Hellsing Organization, The Catholic Church who share the same goals as Hellsing but are rivals, they are represented by Alexander Anderson and the Iscariot order he belongs to. And The nazis as led by the Major who you saw at the end of the episode. Yes this show is not for everyone it’s extremely dark and graphic. But TFS for their part wrote an amazing script that really changes the character of Alucard in a way that makes for some incredibly dark humor.

@@housegarrett Also, Alexander Anderson DOES have abilities, he's a regenerator, as shown by his headshot wound healing after Alucard shoots him. When Alucard gets a second gun in episode 2, which I noticed you've seen by now, it was actually made specifically to combat Alexander. It fires phosphorus bullets (I think) instead of the usual silver bullets Alucard uses.

Apart from what was already said, Ghouls while sharing some similarities with Zombies from other franchises, first and foremost being that they are mindless maneaters driven only by their hunger for Human flesh, they differ in a few key aspect. The one who created them has full control over them. They are able to perform simple tasks and use tools and weapons. They do not eat only brains, but they eat all of the Human body. Also usually when the Vampire dies, all it's Ghouls die as well. That this did not happen with the Vampire in Ireland (the one that was killed off-screen by Alexander Anderson) is a rather alarming mystery.

Also another note to add is you wont become a vampire by simply being feed on, you have to die as well. Giving that this anime is suppose to pick up where the books left off, you might want to consider reading them or watching the movies. In the Hellsing universe, to turn someone into a vampire, the person must be the opposite gender of the vampire turning them, and they must be a virgin. If not, they become a zombie/goul. If blood is willingly given, the person's consciousness becomes a part of the vampire.

To answer your question, you only become a true vampire if you are a virgin when you are bitten, that's why the priest was threatening to violate the Police Girl in the beginning before drinking her blood. If you are not a virgin, you would become a ghoul who is subservient to the vampire. There are exceptions to this that you will see later. The vampires are not all the same and many of them have their own special powers and abilities. The only things you see besides vampires and ghouls are enhanced humans (like Alexander Anderson, who is a "Regenerator") and maybe one other thing that is a spoiler.

The Priest (Alexander Anderson) is a "Regenerator," essentially a bio-weapon created specifically for anti-vampire combat. After Alucard shot him in the head, he got back up and the bullet was pushed out as he regenerated. This is explained in the non-abridged series.

According to the lore from the official series, Ghouls (the zombies) are made when a de-flowered (non-virgin) human's blood is consumed by a vampire, while Vampire's are the opposite; virgins who had their blood taken by a vampire. You see this explained somewhat later on in the abridged series. Additionally, if a person gives a vampire their blood willingly, that person's soul can become a part of the vampire and retain it's personality. And no, they do not pull their punches with the humor. Ever.

The soul transfer works even unvilingly (on both sides) and it is posible that this ability is only for in Alucard's direct bloodline. Basicaly, when vampire from Alucards direct bloodline drain a person, that person "become a part of them" or "get inside them" and it is exactly as bad as it sounds, the parael between this and certain act is clearly there. That might be part reason why is police girl so hesitant to dringing blood. On the other side, said vampire may then summon said person as a familiar to use their skills/abilities.

To answer your question: There are vampires. If a vampire feeds off a virgin, the virgin becomes fledgling vampire, becoming a full vampire when they drink blood for the first time, then they become a full vampire. If the person isn't a virgin, they become a ghoul/zombie. However, if a vampire drains a person completely, that person gets absorbed into their being and becomes a familiar, whether they're a virgin or not. The vampire then has all that person's powers and abilities, and c an even summon them forth to fight for them. they also gain their familiar's life, so if someone kills that vampire, one of their familiars will die instead of them.

that's misunderstanding. if the vampire "injects" his/her blood into a virgin, then the virgin becomes a fledgling vampire. the vampire may suck the blood of that virgin, before injecting some blood into the virgin to make him/her a vampire. if the victim was not a virgin, it becomes a ghoul. if the vampire only "sucks" some of the blood from a person, then the person becomes a familiar. if the vampire drains the blood completely, then the person dies.

@@davidjacobs8558 No, the blood sharing is from the other version of Hellsing, it's not necessary to exchange blood in the manga or the Ultimate series (which directly follows the manga, as opposed to other 13 episodes that diverted halfway through). Deflowered humans become ghouls, virgins become vampire fledglings until they consume blood for the first time, then they become full vampires. That's Alucard told her to drink his blood, telling her it would make her singular and complete. Had he shared his blood with her when he initially changed her, there would have been no need to consume it later. It can be confusing because fledglings are at times referred to as "if their master's blood", but that's in reference to them being their maker, not a blood exchange. Only in the non-canon first anime of Hellsing was there blood exchanging.

So hellsing ultimate abridged was originally a side project run by takahata101 (a founding member of team4star and voice of cell in DBZA) he was more of a voice actor than editor which why he takes every opportunity to avoid showing people talk during the first few episodes. I think around episode 5 the series got absorbed into team4star and taka started getting help with the editing.

I've seen all 3 series, the regular Hellsing anime, Hellsing Ultimate and the abridged. The regular and ultimate are somewhat similar but they have plenty of differences between the two especially with storyline and some character personalities. I somewhat lean more towards the regular Hellsing when it comes to the two different anime, even though I love pip in ultimate.

Okay, World rules. 1) These are classic vampires. Creatures of the night, strength, speed, hypnosis etc. 2) When vampires kill by drinking blood, victims rise as Ghouls, similar to zombies but also under the control of the vampire who made them. UNLESS the person was a virgin, in which case they will become a vampire, too. 3) Catholic Church vs Protestant tensions are a large part of this show and why some characters are antagonistic to others, so an idea of the background there will help. Beyond that, I think everything should be given on screen in some way or other.

Hellsing was a manga written by Kouta Hirano about a vampire who defends England from other vampires and Catholics. It was adapted into an anime series under the same name pretty early on into the manga run, like after only 3 or 4 volumes had been published. Consequently the anime diverged from the main cannon and had its own ending. The anime had good atmosphere and some decent anime only characters, but lacked the over the top violence and general badassery the series was gaining in the manga. Some time later after the manga was nearing completion a set of OVAs (direct to video DVDs) were produced under the name of Hellsing Ultimate adapting the main manga story line. OVAs aren't subject to the same censorship laws tv shows are in Japan so HU could keep closer to the high violence and gore that was in the manga. After the manga and anime was completed Hirano went on to start a new series called Drifters in which major figures from history get sucked into a fantasy world upon their deaths and must save it from an army of darkness led by Jesus Rasputin and Joan of arc. It's pretty good as well.

The zombies are called ghouls. When a vampire bites somebody, that person will become a ghoul that serves the vampire that bit them and they lose all sense of self and die if the vampire is killed. However, if the person bit is a virgin, then they will become a vampire instead of a ghoul. They still serve the vampire that originally bit them, but they keep their mind and are not destroyed if the original vampire is defeated as well as obviously able to bite other people to gain ghouls or even vampires that serve them. Alucard (as you might've guessed) is the exception as he is the original vampire. There are artificial vampires made by the antagonists that you'll see later that use chemical injections to turn people into vampires, but they are generally weaker than the real deal.

Ok, break down time. In the Hellsing series... You got the vampires. You got the Pure, "bitten, then turned" Vampires, then you got "chipped freak" or "artificial" Vampires. A new vampire is formed when a Vampire bites and drinks the blood of a virgin of the opposite gender, which is what happened to Police Girl. Then there are ghouls. The undead slaves of the vampire that snacked on them. The ghouls are the deflowered and virgins of the same gender bitten. They die when the host vampire dies. BUT... BUTT!... When a chipped or artificial vampire snacks, no new vampires are made and the ghouls don't die with the host vampire. There is a werewolf, but he appears towards the end. Any leprechauns were likely killed off screen. And Priest Anderson is an Artificially Bioengineered Regenerator Agent, made to combat vampires and other unholy creatures. I hope this helps.

According to the manga, a vampire-victim who wasn't a virgin when they were bitten becomes a mindless ghoul. If the victim was a virgin, they are enslaved until they drink the blood of their kill - then, they become "full" vampires and are considered "free." If you haven't, you become a vampire. How strong of a vampire depends on how far diluted the blood of the original first vampire is in you. We count that in generations. If you're bitten by the original, you're gen 1. If you're bitten by a gen 1, you're gen 2. And so on. Alucard is the OG(You do realize it's just his name spelled backwards, right?). He killed most other vampires, due to a pact he made with some people and creatures. You barely get anyone even a 100th of his strength nowadays. Victoria Seras is the only living example of a direct "descendant in blood" of his. The only Gen 1. If he is The King of Vampires, she is The Crown Princess, heiress to the throne. Keep in mind that TFS released Hellsing Abridged episodes one per year as a Halloween release, so the quality of everything from the writing to the editing vastly improve with every episode. Hellsing itself is very dark, depressing and dour series. TFS did an amazing job injecting levity.

Alright, so the ghouls versus vampires thing. Anyone who gets bitten by a vampire dies and turns into a basically mindless ghoul under the control of said vampire. EXCEPT if they were a virgin of the opposite sex. Then they get turned into a vampire. That's why the vampire priest mentioned...you know. To make sure she wasn't a virgin so that he didn't have some goofy big-tittied vampire police girl running around. Also why Alucard was able to turn her, because she was. Alucard (and by extension Seras) are also...special cases, but that gets into spoiler territory for things to come.

The lore is, apart from Alucard, who was made ... _differently_ , if virgins are bitten they become vampires, otherwise they become ghouls/zombies. And if a vampire consumes another soul, *then* they become a Nosferatu (No Life King/Queen) a _true_ vampire.

spoiler alert Alucard = Dracula backwards, and this isn't the Bram Stoker Dracula, this is Vlad Dracul turned into a vampire; ancient, insanely powerful, bloodthirsty (pun intended) and yet he's on the leash of this Protestant monster hunting organization, so in summary the grand daddy of all vampires kills the weaker ones as well as other things that go bump in the night

At the beginning the two vampires said their names were Bella and Edward. That was why he said a real vampire In this series, when a vampire bites someone, they only turn into a vampire if they are a virgin. Otherwise, they turn into a zombie. You probably noticed, but Anderson is basically Catholic Alucard. His powers are mostly super regeneration. He wasn't born with it though, the Catholics are just really good at augmentation. You are going to love this though, they are great at making parodies at least on par with the originals

The original definitely had a more serious tone for the most part. But it still had weird and ridiculous moments. It was a horror anime with comedy aspects. Meanwhile TFS leaned far more into the comedy aspect. Though a correction, Anderson (the priest) is basically a bit of a genetic experiment to create a super soldier, with a lot of the basic positives of a vampire (regeneration, strength, speed, etc) without the negatives (needing blood, sunlight, weakness to holy weapons, etc). Least how I see it.

I'm not sure if this is a thing in the show but, Alucard is the son of Dracula. In fact, his name is a semordnilap. Alucard is Dracula backwords. So I think he is so powerful because he's Dracula's kid.

They arnt technically zombies but gouls what happens when a vamp feeds on a human. They can turn them into one. There are nazi's a weird.magical woman robot and...a singular warewolf. Though he doesnt do much in the abridged series.

I hope you guys watched the original Hellsing Ultimate before watching the abridged parody. More of the jokes are funny that way. The original is just as crazy, but not anywhere near as silly. Anything featuring an army of vampire-Nazis is by definition insane.
