theduckgoestwo Both bade anime are series that I would recommend but I don’t know if you would be interested to do a reaction series on One Piece. Don’t get me wrong, One Piece is my favorite anime and I would recommend it to everyone but the problem with this series for reactions is that it is currently 900+ episodes and about 15-16 movies. If you did, to catch up you would need to either do daily vids or multiple episodes. Again, this is a series I would highly recommend and my favorite series (of all time) but you would need to really invest in to it.

Given that each Hellsing Abridged episode was essentially TFS' Halloween special, every single one except for the last two eps came out almost exactly one year apart, and since anyone can tell just how much better and better TFS got with their scripting, characterization and editing as time passed...

So yeah, a pretty good establishment of what this show is like. In the original show, typically a human can only be turned into a vampire if they are a virgin. Otherwise they will be turned into ghouls, which are essentially zombies under their vampire's control.

Yessss. This is an amazing abridged series and some of Team Four Star's best work. It originally started off as a side project for Takahata101 (Voice actor for Cell and Alucard here). It was originally aired one episode a year around Halloween (there were some delays with some of the later episodes). The writing, voice acting, and the quality of the editing gets way better as the episodes progress. As good as episode 1 is, in my opinion things get really good in episode 2 and keep getting better. So if you like episode 1, you're in for a fun ride lol.

The relationship between Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate, and this abridged series is that they are all based off the same original Manga series that ran from 1998-2009 (10 volumes). The original TV series "Hellsing" was made in 2001, and so only 2-3 of the books were out, so they based the first half of the show on the first 12 chapters and made up an ending in their 13 episodes. The OVA series "Hellsing Ultimate" started in 2006 and consisted of 10x45min (on average) high quality episodes released about every 6 months, ending in December 2012. Although only 7 books were out when they started, the 8th came out in mid 2006, so had quite a lot to work with before they would "catch up" so it's much closer to the original story. The abridged series started as a "Halloween Special" (3:09 shows the release dates of the first 3 each within a week of the Halloween for 3 straight years), and was not "officially" a TFS show until after the first few episodes. The first few episodes were originally posted to the channel for Alucard's voice actor (e.g.: Episode 1 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipjRep2Amt2oqpY), and later once Team Four Star made it "Official" they re-released the first few episodes themselves (some of the original posts also had copyright issues). That series started in 2010, when the manga was finished, and 7/10 episodes of the OVA were complete (although only 4 in English at the time). They finished in December of 2018.

Going to throw in a few lore tidbits to clear up some confusion down the way (spoiler free). 1.Vampires in this show have super human abilities (stronger, faster, more durable), but some have magic abilities specific to them. Some have powers of illusion, some warp reality itself to cheat death, etc. 2. England/the Protestant Church and the Catholic Church live in a shaky truce with one another. They struck a deal of peace when they realized the existence of vampires posed a bigger threat to the world. They each have their own organizations dedicated to hunting down vampires and other supernatural threats. England has the Hellsing organization and the Catholic Church has the Escariot Organization. Alucard is the greatest hunter for England and Anderson is the greatest hunter for the Catholic Church.

4:18 -The Vampires that hunts other Vampires, are quite common.: 1.We have Blade from "Marvel Comics" - who became vampire by being newborn baby while his mother being bitten by vampire recently, and that somehow made him part-vampire who is inmune to sun, and because of that other Vampires refers to him as "Daywalker". 2.We have Angel and Spike from TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" - Angel was at begining of the show, the mysterious stranger that helps Buffy, while Spike was the enemy that turn into ally. 3.We have Alucard (completely different Alucard) from Castlevania - he's son of Dracula, but he want to kill him. 4.And we also have Mina Harker from Original "Dracula" Story - She was bitten by Dracula himself, but with help from Dr.Van Helsing and his Vampire-related knowledge he stoped transformation process, and Mina remained human, but after that she was capable of reading Dracula's Mind so Mina, Van helsing and two other guy could kill Dracula once and for all. And that's only characters that i know from my head. So Alucard as "Vimpire Vampire-Hunter" is definitely not so rare as Character.

Fun fact, Anderson originally was running drugs for the gang he was in and to hide from the law he hid in a church, while he was hiding her read the books they had there which ended up turning him into the homicidal monster killing priest we know and love. His final fight with Alucard is by far the best of the series.

Now, I could be wrong, but I believe the actual steps to kill Alucard would be 1) drive a wooden stake through his heart, 2) cut off his head, 3) stuff the head with garlic, 4) burn the entire body, 5) soak the ashes in holy water, 6) split up the ashes so they can never come back together to reform, the "steps 2 through 10" bit was just a gag by team fourstar, but according to the original story of Dracula, that's the sort of bullshit that would have to be done to keep him dead. There's also probably something to do with silver in there somewhere, since silver is considered a holy metal (Judas betrayed Jesus for 20 pieces of silver, which was actually part of the plan)

@@theduckgoesmoo Starts about 10:45 and ends around 16:00, only a little over a quarter of the episode, really. In general, the audio just sounds to be of significantly lower quality. However the section containing the claimed music (which only even last a couple of seconds) has most of it's audio cut, all you hear are a couple of warped sounding voice lines and sound effects amid dead silence. To that end, if it's just not feasible to react to the twitch VOD rather than the youtube video (and even if it is you may just want to manually cut the possibly offending portion of audio to avoid trouble yourself), I'm pretty confident everyone will understand. But at the very least please explicitly watch the VOD of that scene after the fact just so you know what it's meant to sound like.

I think the steps to kill Alucard are Decapitation, stake through heart, garlic stuffed in mouth, burn inside their own coffin, and a cross placed on the coffin. The last two I don’t know, but the first 3 I do know was common vampire execution steps.

I got into this series when it only had three episodes released. And each new one has been released around Halloween, which means that on average, we've had to wait a year per episode. The wait was so bloody, *excruciatingly* frustrating, but ho boy was each episode worth it. This is quotable like hell, too, and generally, each episode makes fun of stuff that has been a big thing any given year. While some things are constant (jabs at the Catholic church and the proverbial little Timmy, for example), some things are contained within one episode as a one-off for that given year - the main antagonist (sort of) or episode 4 is a good example of that. I won't spoil it for you, though. Either way, glad you're reacting to this and I sure enjoy it. Strap yourself in, it's going to be quite a ride.

@@Arkayjiya french is a very gendered language, japanese isn't. so when characters get translated from japanese to french, they have to have their pronouns changed from neutral to a gendered pronoun. this is also a problem in english, where characters of unknown gender get called "he" because the correct translation, "it", is unacceptable for referring to a person.

Fun fact. Hellsing Ultimate is the faithful adaptation to the manga. Hellsing the TV series is the adult swim run 90's anime that pulled an OG FMA pre brotherhood anime and just did it's own fan fiction awful catastrophic drama that ended on absolutely nothing with no closure which helped spawn the Ultimate OVAs to give an actual faithful retelling for the manga in its format and artstyle.

Funny enough, it wasn't a Halloween thing (except for the first episode). It was a convention TFS would always attend and premier the episode there, that just happened to take place in the first week of November, within a week of Halloween. For the rest of us, it was something that seemed to come out just after Halloween, but it wasn't being aimed for that time because of it specifically, but rather because of the convention.

Oh, the reason it had the One Piece start was because the episode was originally a one off Halloweeen prank that they were doing a new series. So, there were a lot of fans who thought TFS were going to abridge One Piece. That was just to tease them. The Hellsing was so popular though, they decided to contine.

Anderson in original has distinct Scottish accent. TFS probably in early stage wanted to use the Boondock Saints trope and just for that make him Irish ^^ Boondock Saints is about two Irish-American dudes who kill evildoers (drug cartel, mafia). They shoot them, apart from the leader fatally, make him kneel & while keeping a gun on the back of the head recite verses of the Bible. Afterwards shooting the victim. It's in character for Anderson to accompany his murdering spree on heathens & vampires reciting Bible verses & ofc. in an Abridged version specifically from a cult movie using this.

@@rotciv557 Actually unknown. Both in original series & in TFS origin of Anderson is left vague. He only speaks in Ultimate with Scottish accent, being a Scott isn't confirmed. In TFS he has an exaggerated Irish accent, the swear words he's using... I get it's stranger in TFS though. Father O'Mally'O'Connell'O'Carrol'O'Reilly'O'Brian'O'Sullivan is towards Renaldo so that are the typical Irish surnames, but towards the person. And Boondock Saints is so laughably bad towards true Irish audience...

It's not easily understandable in Abridged between the jokes & conversations so for backup info: Anderson is what they call a Regenerator. A human enhanced by bio-engineering. Anderson is the Vatican's ace. Millennium (the Nazis) is the one responsible for making a bunch of "new generation vampires". The Vampire Priest was probably one of the most basic experiments of random folk turned vampire. A mutant with the stereotypical vampiric strength, improved speed & regeneration & senses, but without magic abilities. The couple was slightly better. Later ones are enhanced extensively to battle Hellsing.

Hellsing Abridged is easily up there with DBZA in terms of quality. It's probably been mentioned by others, but the voice of Alucard is Takahata101, the voice of Seras is Nowacking (a fucking treasure), Integra is voiced by Megami33, Anderson is voiced by Ben Creighton, and the fat blonde nazi at the end is voiced by Lanipator.

I started reading the manga for Hellsing, first before I watched the original anime and the ova's which is Hellsing Ultimate; which follows more closely to the manga. I love both versions as well as the abridged. I highly recommend them. The manga has 10 volumes, the original anime has 13 episode's, and Hellsing Ultimate has 10 episode's.

I like the paralels they build between alucard and anderson. Both of them wonder about killing leprechauns. Both ask about seras coming back to eat cereal representative of what they are, count chocula for the vampire alucard and frankenberry for anderson which i guess is a hint at just how he survived a bullet to the head from alucard?

I just want to explain how Anderson is able to regenerate. It is not really explained in the Abridged series and I don't think it can really be considered a spoiler. Anderson is what is referred to as a Regenerator. Regenerators are humans powered up with bio-technology/nanotechnology. It is not clear on how one becomes a Regenerator or how you are selected to become one but it is speculated that Anderson was selected because he was the best Iscariot (a top-secret section of the Vatican's operations) agent.

Yeah, the only mention of it at all ironically doesn't come from the abridged series proper, but rather the Alexander Anderson song, the one that parodies Alexander Hamilton. "Injected him with nanobots and now he heals quick" is thrown out pretty quickly in the song, just a single line from a parody song, the only in-show explanation for his healing abilities.

Just little things that never really get explained: If a vampire bites a virgin of the opposite sex they turn into a vampire. If it is the same sex or not a virgin they turn into Ghouls (controlled zombies). That's why the priest wanted to you know rhymes with grape her before killing her. The vampires you saw are artificially created and weaker than real full fledged vampires like Alucard. Seras (aka police girl) doesn't want to drink blood because she feels like she's loosing her humanity.

Oh boy, you're doing this one now XD Alucard here is really different from in the actual anime, though. Though to be fair, being a nigh-immortal vampire strong enough to put other vampires to shame would make it quite hard for you to take anyone else seriously after a while. Minor bit - not everyone involved here is a vampire. Integra, Walter, and Anderson among a few others are all 100% human.

Alucard is a common name for Dracula when he’s disguised (since it’s Dracula backwards) and the main story is him working with a decedent of Van Hellsing (famous mythological Hunter)
