Yeah. I think he’s going to need to work through his issues first- and this will finally motivate him to do that. I’m betting he’s going to have to confront his father and find some kind of closure as to the death of his mother. Stolas does deserve better; not from someone else, but from Blitzo. Now that Blitzo has finally understood Stolas is serious, he knows he needs to change if he wants to be ready to receive those feelings and reciprocate. Because right now? He’s just not ready.

"I don't think you meant to hurt me, 'cause I don't think it meant a thing at all" is such a hard but sad line. I think Blitzø was confused about what it meant to him. There's multiple instances where we can see that Blitzø actually does care about Stolas but he just doesn't believe that he could be cared for by Stolas. It started as pity, turned into earning his way to Earth because he doesn't believe that he simply deserves it, then it turned into a mix of both as well as actual emotion after Western Energy. Then some of the stuff Striker said got to his head and he started to believe that he was just a toy. I'm glad that he's starting to see what's wrong with himself but it's going to be a rocky journey. He's been responsible for so many tragedies in his life and it causes him to create more and lowers his opinion on himself. It's a cycle that's extremely hard to get out of and I know because I'm just like him.
@InkyPetrel6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I feel a lot of Blitz's self-destructive energy on a personal level as well. You're right, you can change those patterns, it's hard, it hurts, and it's not always forward progress. It's SO easy to fall back into habits and defences that have WORKED for years, when you've spent your life in situations or surrounded by people that meant you had to navigate best you could. Maladaptive coping strategies exist because sometimes they're all we have available to us, and sometimes you're the only person who is protecting you. It doesn't make hurting people right, but you're not a bad person for surviving. I'm still learning, and I'm not saying this to be a shitty inspirational post on youtube, or to excuse hurting others. I Iust saw your comment and it resonated, so I wanted to say "hey, I see you, keep making those changes, keep holding yourself to account, but... keep being gentle with yourself too" :) Exist because there's always more to learn, and also because spite is sometimes the most satisfying "fuck you" to shitty things in your past :p May your drinks always be the correct temperature.

I hate how people say Stolas never tried to show anything more than physical sex till Ozzy's when the very reason why Blitzo turned around instead of just running away with the book during "Circus" was because he heard Stolas saying how much it meant to him to be wanted by someone he cared about aka "my first friend". Blitzo has known at least in some small way since the beginning that Stolas had feelings for him.

Please hear me when I say: you're making SO MUCH sense! I've been longing, loooooonging for a Helluva Boss commentary channel to seriously discuss the class disparity issue, and how Stolas THINKS it's easy enough to disregard the vast difference in their social station because he has no experience or comprehension of what life is like as a "low class" demon. When you were talking about it, I swear, man, I thought I might actually cry 🥹 And how they're BOTH coming from such screwed up, complicated backgrounds, how communication is so difficult for both of them, how they're both _trying_ to struggle through it, how they might be coming to understand themselves and each other a bit more. And ALSO yeah, they need to put in the work, they need to earn trust, they need to figure themselves AND each other out, and then they can be endgame. Because I too refuse to believe we live in a world where they aren't endgame. I absolutely love how invested and enthusiastic you are, and how thorough you are in analyzing aspects of the characterization and storytelling and symbolism and themes and artwork, etc. Like you, when I'm invested, I'm _deeply_ invested. Something I noticed when I watched this episode is that the moment at 8:50 weirdly parallels a moment in The Circus where Blitz and Stolas first reunite. Back then, they were on Stolas' bed with the grimoire knocked to the floor - and Blitz's priority was the book, and any flirting on his end was done for the sake of that book. Now, he's purposefully knocking a book out of his way without a second glance all so he can devote more of his attention and energy towards Stolas (even if it's a little misguided) As a side note! Don't be sorry for talking so extensively, that's why so many of us love watching your reaction!

@@aaazzz8324 Thats pretty much what happened yeah. Its a big character flaw of Blitzo that he kinda seeks himself at the thought of a committed relationship as that means he can get hurt. I can see why hes scared of that but it did her Verosika a lot too and I get why shes angry. Shes 100% right that he can send a bad message in the worst way and that can really hurt people. An example of that is clear early in the episode were Blitz accidentally revealed that he knew Striker was trying to assassinate Stolas. While its likely that he genuinely thought Stolas wouldn't be threatened by that it still clearly hurt Stolas a lot that he didn't tell him and he didn't try to ask if he was okay once he got put into the hospital by Striker after getting tortured. That does send a bad message unintentionally. We know Blitzo does care about Stolas and that it just didn't occur to him that he could get hurt that bad but Stolas doesn't see that (also he was trying to help Loona which he should of mentioned but he was fumbling his words bad). He just sees that Blitzo couldn't be bothered to come see if he was okay and that he knew about the assassin the whole time but thought that Stolas was untouchable instead of just a person that could get hurt. These two are such trainwrecks, interesting trainwrecks at the least.

Been making the rounds while I process my thoughts, so here we go again: - The first scene was a roller coaster in itself, as much a mix of steps forward and back as everything else in this episode. Both Blitzø and Stolas did _so_ much better at communicating with one another, and at correcting their own failings in the process -- Stolas was able to express his feelings clearly and stand up for his own boundaries, and even though it took a lot of pushing, Blitzø _actually _*_admitted_*_ to his self-loathing_ and copped to the fact that he's no good at talking things out... but then they both kept falling back into their self-defensive bad habits, Blitzø pushing when he should've backed off and Stolas backing off when he should've pushed, and things boomeranged _right_ back to where they started. It's true what they say: hurt people hurt people. - The reveal of Martha and Miss Mayberry was thoroughly unexpected, but a welcome surprise. It might be risky to make paying a visit to IMP's targets a regular fixture of the after-mission routine, but hey, it could be a nice touch if they try it. - Blitzø's repeated attempts to try to find the words to express how sorry he was to Stolas illustrate as clearly as anything how much Blitzø actually _does_ regret what he said and did. It's been discussed before that he's self-taught when it comes to writing, so drafting up apology texts is likely a challenge for him -- but he doesn't go through that kind of hassle for people who aren't worth it to him, and he clearly felt like he needed to do _more_ than just _write_ an apology. Blitzø's going to more trouble to make amends with Stolas than he's done for just about anyone else. - As much as Stolas _really_ doesn't want to be around Blitzø for the time being (and understandably so, honestly), it's pretty clear from his visible discomfort at the overt animosity aimed at Blitzø at the party that _he doesn't _*_hate_*_ Blitzø._ He's _hurt,_ and he wants _space_ and the time to _heal,_ but it's not hard to see that he's still willing to let Blitzø _earn_ another chance. - The costumes and decor at the party are chock-full of jokes and references. I have to give points for the Alex Brightman-inspired Beetlejuice costume, that was an excellent touch. - Blitzø has probably _never_ had as clear a demonstration of how badly he's broken someone's heart as he got by being in the audience for Stolas's song. Stolas was absolutely speaking from the heart, broken as it is, sharing his feelings in a way that he's likely never been able to before -- keeping his eyes closed to keep his anxiety at bay, he was able to help Blitzø see clearly what he really meant to Stolas... and just how _severely_ his actions have messed up Stolas's headspace in a cycle of 'what-ifs' and self-blame. For the first time, Blitzø realized how much he'd fucked up, and it _hurt him._ - The liquor-soaked talk between Blitzø and Stolas was *_exactly_* the talk they _needed_ to have the other night, and while it _sucks_ that it's literally a day late and a dollar short, the fact that it was said is a *_major_* first step in both of their journeys to healing. And honestly, Blitzø made some _really good choices:_ he allowed Stolas space, let him take the high ground in the conversation, let him speak without interruption, recognized that Stolas was likely _not_ in the right space for physical contact when he was breaking down (which is *_HUGE,_* and something _so_ many people get wrong!), and when there wasn't anything left to say in the moment, _he let Stolas go._ He's _genuinely improved,_ even if he doesn't _realize_ it yet. - Blitzø's talk with Verosika was the best way to cap off this episode. The party being a form of group therapy, Blitzø's admission that he _realizes_ he's screwed up, is _genuinely_ sorry for it and _wants_ to be better, Verosika giving him unironically good relationship advice despite everything he's put her through before giving him an 'eat your heart out' slice of cake and heading off to start a song about how, even if she's not over what happened between them, she's gotten over _him..._ as bittersweet as the ending was, it's a perfect denouement.

It's a bit scattered, but it helps me process, because _holy _*_hell_* has this season been a lot so far.

On your fourth point, even on their morning meeting it's clear Stolas was willing to talk if Blitz dropped the act and spoke honestly with him, like when Blitz gives his 'example apology'. At that point Stolas turns to face him, drops his stiff posture and has an open expression, waiting to hear if Blitz will continue being emotionally vulnerable and giving every indication he's willing to listen. When Blitz reverts to his usual anger, that's the point where Stolas turns his back and leaves, with an expression that suggests he feels foolish for even thinking Blitz could be genuine for once. That *was* Blitz's second chance and he completely blew it, which is probably what convinced Stolas to go to the party despite dismissing it as 'petty' earlier. Once there, of course, Stolas is taken aback by the level of hostility and doesn't fit in with the rest of the exes. Having the opportunity to express his pain to a sympathetic audience was huge for him though - Stolas really doesn't have anyone in his life he can talk to, let alone anyone who would be supportive. The extreme negativity of the party along with Verosika and Tex's insistence it was *all* Blitz's fault also probably helped Stolas sort out his feelings. Saying it was all Blitz's fault obviously didn't feel right to him, even if it was cathartic in the moment, and his song shows him finally starting to have some (literal!) self-reflection on their relationship and how he ignored Blitz's signals even as he criticized Blitz for not picking up on his. It did look like things were about to go south again right before the incubus interrupted though. Stolas had a hard angry expression as he wiped his tears away, like he was about to tell Blitz to go away again, and Blitz looked like he was about to speak sincerely to him, which could have gone very badly if Stolas reacted harshly or rejected him in that moment. It could have been a repeat of Blitz's 'apology' that morning, just in the opposite direction with Blitz being the one to storm out. Hopefully the next time they have this conversation Blitz will be able to try being sincere again and Stolas will be in a mindset to listen to him (and hopefully also not drunk out of his birdy little brain). Loved that moment of Blitz giving Stolas the permission he sought to dance with someone else. Does Stolas *need* his permission? No. Does he *want* his permission? Yes. Also the little detail of drunk Stolas pulling Blitz's disguise over his face and sheltering him through the crowd was adorable. They do both still care about each other deeply, if only Blitz would let himself accept that. I also had to laugh at the fact the incubus who praises Stolas's singing, treats him sweetly and gently and then gives him the swept-off-his-talons romancing he craves *literally* has "Better Than Blitz" written on him! XD Are we sure he isn't actually Blitz's worst nightmare come to life?
@Nitrinoxus6 ай бұрын
@mgatwood42 What we've been seeing over the past two episodes is a couple who are discovering, perhaps _way_ later than they _should've,_ that they have _no goddamn idea_ how these 'relationship' things are supposed to _work._ It's clear that they still _want_ it to work, but don't have much of a framework to build off of, and they've each got a lifetime of emotional baggage that they simultaneously can't sort out alone and don't know how to help each other with yet. They both still have growing to do, though they've made strides, and putting their relationship on hold might be the best move for right now. Blitzø is just now starting to recognize the impact he's had on those he's left in his wake, and we can see that he _regrets_ it, but he needs to take the time to figure out how he's going to be _better_ about that and learn how to let himself be vulnerable like he briefly was that morning (because you're 100% right, that would've been the _perfect_ opportunity if he'd let himself take it); and while Stolas clearly still wants to be part of Blitzø's life, he still doesn't seem to know what that would _mean_ on a practical level, and he's only just started acknowledging the effect that the difference in their status has been having on Blitzø (just because _Stolas_ doesn't care about it doesn't mean nobody _else_ does, but Stella's aggressive superiority complex has trained Stolas to see even _admitting_ the power difference _exists_ as a _bad_ thing). It's definitely going to come to a head once Andrealphus's schemes enter the endgame. I've suspected for a while that he's aiming to co-opt the aspects of Stolas's Goetic domain that overlap with his own (Stolas has power over _astrology,_ while Andrealphus has _astronomy),_ using the divorce as leverage to get the rest of the family (or a majority, at least) behind his plan; while we don't know what will happen to Stolas's abilities if he's stripped of his position as a Prince and disowned by the Goetia family, it's reasonable to think he might be diminished to some extent, which would narrow the gap between Stolas and Blitzø and potentially give Blitzø another chance to play the hero by protecting Stolas from his half-brother; on top of that, Stolas would probably need a job to help support himself in the event that he's cut off from the royal coffers... and luckily for him, I recall a certain Imp telling him 25 years ago that, if Stolas applied at his dream business, he'd hire him.

The fact that you hear Verosika's voice shaking when she gives a little explination about how they broke up really adds more emotion to how much she really loved him before he dumped her after she said I love you

I love cleaning my house while listening to your thoughts about Helluva Boss lol 😅 it's so calming. You mention that nobody but us the audience know the real Blitz and his insecurities except maybe Fizz, and I wanted to point out Loona also has a pretty good idea. She's seen his pictures on the wall and she's heard him say he's going to die alone while drunk and crying. I think they're the only two characters who have the slightest idea about the depth of Blitz's trauma and self-hatred

This episode made me so unbelievably sad. It’s so hard watching a character you love acknowledge the damage they’ve done and be absolutely crushed by it, so man this was a tough watch. Fantastic, but tough.
@aaazzz83246 ай бұрын
Yeah, it was heartbreaking and sad, but also very hopeful in a way. It’s the first step he took to become a better person. He didn’t realise (or at least he didn’t acknowledged) all the harm he’s caused until it was put up in his face, so this was probably necessary for him to finally understand that he needs to take that first step and start to change. I’m very hopeful. I really enjoyed this episode.

I haven’t finished the video yet but I can’t stop thinking about the implication of Blitz calling the succubus that asked out Stolas “Bird stealer” implying that Stolas was HIS that he’s been taken away from him?? Verosika being the person who actually got through to Blitz finally was something that just delighted me on so many levels, from a storytelling "subverting tropes" level, to the character development level. *chef's kiss * She's been framed as a "bitch" since we first met her, but here we get to see that in a lot of ways her aggression mirrors Blitz own, it's all an act, a defence mechanism because the one time she let herself be vulnerable, she got hurt badly. The way this show gives characters nuance, and allows the audience to see things in ambiguous or even contradictory ways, is so rare. It really gives us as an audience credit for having the emotional intelligencer to understand that very few things are EVER clear cut. Like, there ARE characters in the Hellverse who are unambiguously pieces of shit. Valentino slithers to mind. And Mammon. Crimson. But they're few and far between, the rest of them are, like real people, complicated. Even Striker and Verosika, who have been put firmly in antagonistic roles, aren't unsympathetic, and here Verosika shows Blitzo far more grace than he's earned. I've been pretty solidly "team Blitzo" just because I tend to struggle to sympathise with people with Stolas' level of privilege and casual power. But Stolas IS a sweet birdie boy a lot of the time, and a LOT of his faults come from being oblivious to the framework he's a part of. He IS trying, and he is slowly starting to have his eyes opened to some of the larger things in play, and I do think he cares for Blitz. It's a beautifully messy, fucked up, complicated thing, full of nuance and contradictory things that exist at the same time. It's SO FUCKING GOOD. *gnaws on the entire show * I wish writers gave the audience this much space and credit more often because it makes the viewing experience so much richer. These characters live rent free in my brain and I've been thinking about them SO MUCH from every angle, like delicious sparkly magic for my brain. [/waffling] POINT IS, Verosika is the standout for me in this episode. Blitz and Stolas are both just a fucking mess, I think we're going to need a bit more time for them to actually start working shit out properly (and by "working shit out" I genuinely do not know if they will, or SHOULD be together, I mean emotionally working out stuff instead of just reacting like a hurt creature, which is what all of THIS is. Verosika is the one in this episode providing the strangely balanced and focused lens, set a little ways back to let us view the wider picture. Also, both songs are absolute BANGERS. I love Motherfucker (and Tex being there providing backup support for his boss is just funny af, and I love his voice.) but the final song is my favourite I think. The ability to distinguish between being "over someone" and Over the situation that someone caused" is one that it can be really hard to recognize, and I feel like the fact she has been able to move past/move on from being in love with Blitz, while still not excusing his shitty actions, is something Blitz should take cues from. She's clearly in a much healthier place than when we first meet her, when she was... well, acting like Blitz. Wow I said I was wrapping this up and then ...didn't. Uuuuhhhhh... Sorrynotsorry? *Blitz grin * NOW I'm done. Great reaction, I always enjoy your thoughts :) Also yeah I saw Danny's video about Blitz too, very cool when people have the confidence to come back and say "I've thought about this and I have changed my opinion" especially on the internet. Much respect. It's so good that there are a lot of reactors who are engaging with the complicated layers of these characters in a thoughtful way. I hope Viv sees it and is proud of what she's creating! EDIT: One more tiny thing, I meant to react to 34:03: it reminded me of something I read (I cannot remember where from, it might be just a common saying?) "The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy". and that really applies here. ALL of these people cared enough to be there, connecting over shared hurt. (I went on a google search but so many people have this attributed to them, and I'm pretty sure I heard it watching a ttrpg anyway, lol.) SHIT one more thing. Stolas literally has only had two "relationships" in his whole life. He's working with incomplete information, because so far he had an arranged marriage lasting at LEAST 17 years of miserable or indifferent ohabitation (we don't know how long they were together before Ovtavia hatched, so I'm just saying at least the time she's been alive...wait you're right, you reminded me later, 25 years. OOPS), and then literally the first person who he falls into bed with awakens something in him and that's been it until now. When the succubus guy aks him to dance it's his first real indication that anyone might want him outside of arrangements. It's hard to believe you will ever be "someone's someone" when all you've had is the first two people to ever be put in front of you. OKAY now I'm done for realsies. I promise this time. Sorry. ALSO: Justice for Dennis!

I LOVE your breakdown of the situation- so many reactors don’t pay this close of attention and the fact you do makes these videos so fun to watch because it feels like im listening to a peer with a shared interest! And I think that Verosika (and Tex, but he’s probably being paid to be here) trying to convince Stolas he did no wrong really speaks to how much she’s seen and experienced while hosting these parties- there probably are a lot of people who genuinely didn’t do wrong in their relationships with Blitz and yet still totally blame themselves. She totally assumes Stolas is one of those cases. But even then, it’s healthier to take a step back and think about, so shooting those thoughts down is her offering a “feels good but could hurt you in the long run” solution to the situation. Not that I blame her. I think we’ve all been in that position in our lives. Sometimes a friend really does just need you to say “no. Fuck that guy.”

Honestly, this episode broke me. I like it, but at the same time I absolutely hate it. I love Blitz so much, and while I'm happy he's able to see the major hurt he's caused people. It fucking stings me to see how hurt and how sad he is. I think what I hated the most was the fact that Blitz had to watch Stolas literally make out with that incubus like he's having the time of his life. The episode ends with Blitz, fucking so down low. Ugh, my heart breaks. I'm crying. I legit had to drink some alcohol after watching this episode.

So something I noticed here that really sucks to me.... Blitz is telling Stolas that he is the only one that Blitz actually wanted to apologize to. Blitz told him that he wasn't understanding how Stolas could love him. Stolas responded with he just wants someone to want him. Not that he wants Blitz but that he wants ANYONE to not make him feel alone. To make him feel wanted. It was poor wording, drunen wording. But that had to hurt Blitz.
@G.D.G.6 ай бұрын
Especially after those words him picking just a random imp to make out with. That must of solidified in Blitz eyes (after he finally opened up!) that hes EASY REPLACABLE. Any random dude can be in his place. Stolas will take ANYONE.
@zacharyjackson18296 ай бұрын
i dont think it was poor wording, it was the truth. Stolas knows Blitz isnt his "soulmate" and isnt the only one who can make him happy and feel loved as this is really never the case ever for anyone. soulmates arent a thing. What Stolas is stating here is that he NEEDS to feel like he is loved and he doesnt know if Blitz truly feels that way towards him and he isnt willing to wait around for Blitz to make up his mind and SAY IT. This man has been married for many years to a woman who never loved him, he's done with that crap as he should.
@DanteShadowfall6 ай бұрын
@@zacharyjackson1829 Yes, but up until just recently he has made no real show of wanting any of this from Blitz(not until the end of season one at least). Verosika and Tex aren't "gaslighting" they're reassuring him cause she (as well as all of the person in the party) knew blitz, and went through this, and probably felt guilty trying to validate why blitz does what he does or thinks what he thinks. It's important to see that relating to blitz's hurt and understanding it and expecting other people to excuse him and excuse the hurt he leaves on other people are so far appart from each other. his self destructive behavior, regardless of any kinktalk early on and status difference that they both had/have this is something he repeats with a massive amount of people and also he is the one that repeatedly damages their relationship with insults, dissmisive behavior, avoidant behavior and self-hatred. Stolas keeps communicating aside from his previous comments (though most people exxagerate this as if it wasn't kink talk) he keeps talking things out, expressing them and being very direct and indirect, verbal and action based, and blitz keeps dismissing that.

Really solidified some of the qualms I had in the episode, and helped me get a better understanding of the dynamic between the two. I hope we get a good episode analyzing and breaking down the parts Stolas had to play, so that way it's not all one-sided. Maybe a full Blitz song in Stolas' style? Anyways, I know who I plan to bounce back to once I've steeped in my episodes!

I love your reaction videos!! I truly enjoy the way you are able to see and comprehend both their situations and feelings and why they act the way they do. I feel like often times in this fandom and others people tend to choose sides or only see things from their favourite character's point of view perhaps because they relate to them more and are thus protective of them(witch is understandable) but I really wish more people tried to understand both sides and how they both have their mistakes and flaws but they're trying; cause you know, there's also the thing that we as the audience, know things that the characters don't. People blame them for not underestanding each others behavior when in reality this is the first time their really trying to communicate and they really don't know much about each other besides the complex relationship they had and thus are unable to recognize each others trauma response and defence mechanisms and end up accidentally triggering the others trauma
