This is just me but I kinda think the way Stella is written in season two is bad. I honestly don’t know what the writers were thinking. Stella didn’t show up much in season one, I’m aware of this but we knew enough. Even if it was racially motivated, Stolas’s affair with Blitzo clearly hurt her or pissed her off to the point she wanted him dead. While I'm glad they acknowledged that wives can be abusive partners too, Stella feels so cartoonishly evil that I can't take her seriously. At first, I thought the reason why she wanted Stolas dead was because he cheated on her, brought shame to their family name, and just wasn't that supportive of a husband. Even though her response to his infidelity was extreme, she at least had a reason. However, by lazily turning her into Amber Bird, & making sure she has zero redeeming qualities, it serves as a pathetic excuse for Stolas to cheat on her. If they didn't want to go with the predictable route maybe they could've shown us that they tried to make to work but they were simply incompatible with each other and had zero chemistry. They could acknowledge that Stella was forced into this marriage as well and didn't have a choice either. She at least tries to keep the family somewhat together, meanwhile Stolas cares more about shagging some random imp for his own pleasure. And show us that even though she hates his guts, the best thing to come out of this marriage was Octavia, to show us that she does love her. But nope, let's just make her into an irredeemable bitch so it's okay for Stolas to cheat behind her back.

That’s a very myopic way of looking at it. Also if you can see Stella as both a victim and a person who makes mistakes, you can extend that courtesy to Stolas. I can guarantee you, by the end of her arc with Stolas, she will confess that she just wanted him to care about her and she was heartbroken.

Stolas is still a gray character. It’s just his mistakes don’t affect Stella. They do affect Octavia, Blitzø, and various characters of the lower class. Not every morally gray character has to be Bojack Horseman. Stella hasn’t spent a single moment in the entire first season to get us to feel sorry for her, not even a token ‘Woe is me’ moment. We also don’t see her show any kindness for any other character. All we’ve seen her do is yell, hurt innocent people like the butler, and plot to kill a beloved character. You can’t say she had a downfall when she never had any good moments to begin with.

@@knot5542 Because that would show that the anger is coming from a place of hurt. Octavia was mad at Stolas but later we see that it comes from the fear of him abandoning her. If it wasn’t for that scene of them talking together, everyone would think she’s another whiny goth girl who hates her dad for no reason. Meanwhile with Stella, we don’t get a moment to see her express the hurt. You can’t just say that she’s hurting inside and not give a moment where she talks about how much her situation sucks. That’s what’s called an informed trait.

I looked up Stolas' entry in the ars goetia. Found something that explains the very foundation of his personality. Turns out. Stolas or "Stolos" is actually a pacifist by nature. For being one of the higher up ranked demons(demon prince) hes actually pretty docile. Stolas believes that violence is beneath him but only fights when he absolutely has to. This explains everything. Why hes so passive aggressive during his marriage, his coping mechanisms when in a situation of conflict, his lack of physical strength or any form of athleticism both in human and demon form. Couldnt believe it. Also his Helluva Boss design and his Goetia picture arent all that different. Hes a black owl wearing a crown. Probably the first time i ever thought a demon was "cute". Seriously why the hell is Stolas the only normal looking devil in the goetia and everyone else looked like they got run over by a fucking truck?🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, Stolas was always interesting to me in the Ars Goetia. He's really just an insanely overpowered owl that loves to learn. Also! Did you notice how at the Not Divorced party in HB, he drinks a bottle of asbinthe? That's because one of Stolas' (ars goetia) preferred offerings is absinthe.

I understand. She didn't want the marriage any more than he did, but she was still willing to put up with it until death for the sake of the family reputation. Then he goes and jeopardizes the family reputation on their anniversary, announcing their divorce in front of her guests. She was probably treated like a marriage contract was the only thing she was good for, and now that only good thing she could do for her family has been wrecked. Stolas says he tried making it work, but he didn't even "cooperate" when making Octavia. It doesn't sound like he ever tried giving Stella any excitement or attention from the start, only doing the bare minimum of civility. And she behaved the way she does ever since childhood and was never corrected, so she probably doesn't even *feel* like she treated him badly.

She had no thought for his safety, comfort or personal boundaries. She also horrifically abused him in other ways since day one which gives him no reason for why he should respect her. He couldn’t even say good morning to her without getting insulted. Stella is not a victim. This whole marriage is just another thing she does with no indication that it scarred her for life the way it did for Stolas.
