More fishing is the answer to everything! 🤣I'm glad you're enjoying my channel and picking up a bit of instruction here and there, and I'm really pleased to hear you've found a new lease of life with fishing. As for your gear, the fish have no idea what is in your hand, putting a bait in the right place is what counts. Save money on the rod and reel, but buy decent hooks would be my advice!

Keep them videos coming Tom. 👌 . Bit of advice please. The Guy Cotten Bib and Brace you wear, do you advise going for a larger size than normal due to them being a smallish fitting? Do you sell them at your shop? If so could you send info please. 👍
@FishyTom
@FishyTom 18 күн бұрын
Hi mate. I wear an XL. I do fit into a large, but like the extra room for all my extra layers this time of year! There's plenty of room in them, but they are cut quite short in the leg. This actually comes from the fact they're designed for commercial fishing boats, and long legs could result in trip hazards. The short leg isn't an issue if you wear wellies, but could be annoying if you wear trainers or walking boots. They are, along with the Chinook smock, very waterproof, though! christchurchanglingcentre.co.uk/?subcats=Y&pcode_from_q=Y&pshort=Y&pfull=Y&pname=Y&pkeywords=Y&search_performed=Y&q=Guy+Cotten+&dispatch=products.search

I used to live on Ravine road in Canford cliffs, just 2 minutes from front door, down the chine, and on the beach. It was heaven! Every evening after work and every weekend in the summer, I was down there as soon as the tourists cleared off, it was just far enough away from Bournemouth and the turn off for Tesco down Sandbanks, it was ideal for quiet fishing, and I had my best fish down there, a 15lb Smoothie, along with rays, flatties and all the usual suspects.. Tom, another video, another 20 minutes of pure joy! Thanks for the great upload. Hope you and family had a lovely Xmas and NY. A quick (I say quick, probably opening a can of worms!) question here... myself and my dad and brother fish long sessions (10 hours or so) down at our local beach, Blackpool Sands. It's a small cove-type beach and despite it's name, it isn't sandy, it's shingle. Some days are absolutely cracking (10 - 20 fish), and other days, literally nothing for 10+ hours. We know that, well that's how fishing goes, but I wondered if you knew what it actually is? Could it be that it's sunny? Or could it be undercurrents? We're using same rigs and bait as when we have really active sessions, casting both close and long range, and we know that it's not the bait we're putting in, for example, it seems as if there's just literally no fish some days! We are absolutely stuck for thought on what it could be... I appreciate that may be a really, really hard question to answer quickly and precisely, but we've been stuck for months on end, and the most frustrating thing is that we don't know why the fish sometimes are there, or just aren't!
@FishyTom
@FishyTom 18 күн бұрын
Hey mate. Thanks for the wonderful comments, as always. What you're describing is exceptionally typical of beach fishing in general. Every beach, Southbourne, Chesil, Sandbanks, Milford etc etc, that I fish has the ability to just switch off. Total blanks, as annoying as they are, are to be expected from time to time. Conditions play a huge role in this. But desired conditions vary depending on time of year and target species. For example, this time of year, you'll catch plenty of fish on an evening/night tide and when the water is roughed up. Fast forward to the summer, and you'll want settled conditions and clear water for things like bream, mackerel, and plaice. You'd end up writing a large book on "the perfect fishing conditions"! There are so many variables. The best thing you guys can do is keep fishing, and make a note of when you catch, and when you don't. Paying attention to tides, water conditions, wind direction, atmospheric pressure and time of year (water temp if you can find that info anywhere!).
@jonathansabater8747
@jonathansabater8747 18 күн бұрын
@@FishyTom Thanks Tom, that makes a lot of sense! We've started a log so we can look back. That's really insightful regarding the atmospheric pressure and wind direction and will do some research into that... I don't mind blanking at all, we always just wonder why sometimes the fish are there, and why they aren't! All part of fishing fun... makes the catches all more special! I eagerly await your book release 🤣🤣🤣!

Turbot are one of my favourites! Sadly they are more of a bye catch than something easy to target as the numbers aren't there from the shore. Tips wise, they are daylight feeders, although I have had the odd one at night. They love a bit of fish bait, sandeels, sprat, anchovy etc. They can be caught surprisingly close to shore, so don't overcast them!
