You said it yourself your dad was in his twenties….. society was very different and one track minded back then. Respect brother. This video is real and this scenario is common. The reality is, growing up with one parent, it's easy to believe every negative word they say about the other. Often, it's simply Parental Alienation. Their anger can get in the way of them doing the right thing. Their anger can become your anger. When we realise that our parents are humans just like us, that make mistakes, it can open the door to forgive them. Whether that means forgiving them for hiding the truth, forgiving them for not being there or maybe something else. The forgiveness isn't to highlight their shortcomings or to get them to acknowledge what they did wrong. Often they won't admit or believe that they did wrong. The forgiveness is to free ourselves and break that cycle of anger and pain and reclaim our true God given identity. Not the identity that we inherited based on our family, cultural or economic circumstances.
