Have you had a patient contact you wanting hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), but they say they're claustrophobic and they’re not sure if they can do the treatment?
It's very common for us to have a patient come through the door or even on our initial consultation, whether that's a virtual consultation or an in-person consultation, and they express some amount of concern about the chamber.
Things like:
-I'm not sure I can do that.
-I'm a little nervous about getting inside that hyperbaric chamber.
-I can't go in an MRI. Is this anything like that?
Those are some of the concerns that we hear pretty regularly.
A lot of people suffer from a degree of claustrophobia, ranging from mild discomfort and anxiety to extreme and crippling levels of fear and anxiety.
But we’re able to help most people overcome their fears with special care, a little bit of coaching, and a whole lot of empathy and patience.

I completed 60 HBOT. 27 at multiperson chamber and 33 single chamber. I never thought, I was chlostraphobic , but I can say I was anxious at least 90% of the time, especially with the multi chamber. All the staff were topnotch, and compassionate.. Heck, had a possible absent seizure from oxygen toxicity but staff caught it early and took steps to avert anything worse. Even with premedication with anti-anxiety meds, I just never could shake it but I did get through it

Great info and timely for me! Think the acrylic chambers seem better where you have a BIG window. Those are the first ones I saw when first hearing about these.

Wouldn't administering a tranquilliser do the trick in most cases?

It may. We prefer not to meditate for this especially when people may be traveling distances to receive their therapy. We have a 99% success rate following a process like this without meds and wanted to share the process. Thank you!
