Tips for more front grip. 1.) Move some weight forward. Battery, esc, reciever. Small adjustments. 2.) Softer weight shock oil in the front. 3.) Softer springs in the front. Don't do all of these at one time. Just make small adjustment one at a time until car is handling as you want it. Good luck Kevin.

agree because if you do them all at the same time or do big adjustments first you won't be able to identify the problem/fix for it and what each adjustments does. It's a good learning process. also too big of a change might ruin your setup

You are so right Kevin. I started RC racing in the 90s on dirt offroad tracks and more recently racing carpet Touring Cars and finally quit for exactly the reasons you mention. For every good person out there, and there were plenty of those, there was always that guy who ruined it for everyone so now I just do crawling and bashing and don't play much with others, which is sad. Thank you for elevating the hobby, entertaining us, and trying to help out with the racing thing. Hopefully it will help. My point has always been, as you said, we are big kids playing with toys and most of us are not professionals counting on winning to make a living. Chill out and have fun with your friends, or mates for you UK blokes haha. Cheers!

I raced from 1984 to 1995. You could grab any car and have fun. Buy a kyosho or a CAT or a dog fighter and get into B or A finals so long as you didn’t suck. It started getting expensive back then and went all ‘professional’.

Your opinion on abusing, swearing, or insulting marshals is exactly how I view it. I was once volunteering as a Marshall, and this racer crashed in the midst of many other cars crashing, so I accidentally put his car down on the wrong place from where he crashed, because I was so focused on other drivers. He was flipped in front of me so I fixed his car in front of me because that's where I thought he had crashed, he instantly starts swearing and insulting me. at the end of the race he came up to me and shouted, "Pay attention A** hole!". You giving your honest opinion on the matter really makes me happy and I assume many other people as well. Great video Kev, looking forward to seeing future content!

@@W1DO tends to escalate things a tad, and if things start getting violent, then both should be asked to leave. I've heard the 'oh they get like that' like it's ok, which then others start to think is the norm. I take my 6yr old daughter with me racing, and she loves it, and I just wouldn't take her into anywhere I thought potential to be a hostile environment. Ultimately, it needs the people running clubs to draw a line in the sand, and say this type of behaviour isn't welcome, and you will be asked to leave.

Hey Kevin, awesome video. I love these updates. As for more front-end traction you want to loosen the rear end. Add some toe out to the rear tires. The more toe in on the rear the more rear traction the more toe neutral on the rear the looser the rear will run and the more grip you will get to the front. Also, thinner front shock oil will increase front-end traction. You can also play with the Ackerman adjustment. The more Ackerman the car will increase bite at the beginning of the turn and less on power. Less Ackerman will increase on-power front traction. I prefer more traction at the beginning of the turn for carpet tracks. Thinner tires have more bite upfront when on the carpet. Hope that helps. Keep being awesome, Kevin!

I stopped racing years ago when I absolutely loved it. During practice times and days, I would track marshal for hours at a time while motors cooled, batteries charged or, just to help out even during races that I wasn't in. When I would get up to practice, no marshals could be found. The layout changed every 3 months and I helped build the tracks during that time. What killed it for me, I almost never broke a part on my at the the time B4.1 Factory Team with an awesome Avid Nightfox body. I was on the drivers stand making laptops and a guy drops his Monster TRUCK, not a race vehicle a Monster Truck in the middle of the track on the 120 (big track for an indoor track) foot straight away. 4 cars hit him including me almost instantly and did like over $200 worth of damage to mine alone. We had a designated spot to put your car and then drive it onto the track safely. When the owner did nothing, we all left and never went back. The track closed down with in 3 months of that happening. It's sad but rules are rules and people can only take so much of nobody following them before things happen.

I fully agree with what you say about the people that take RC racing to seriously. This is a hobby that is supposed to bring smiles and give us a break from the stresses of our lives. Maybe the key is to have races that award standard placement along with awards for best crash, best self destruction aka the Stemp Award, slowest lap, most crashes, and fastest time to a DNF.

I believe with headers, each pipe must be (or is) the same length no matter how it's routed to the termination flange. It's been a long many years since my dad and I fitted headers to my first car at 16 years old. 62 Chevy Impala, 2 door, 283, Powerglide tranny. Unfortunately the thing burned oil and at that time we couldn't afford new rings. We sold her but huge backseat that mattered very much as a dating teenager in a town where the smartest, pretty girls loved hotrods.

Just going through some old vids Kev. Doubtful you'll see this but, softer springs not oil in the front, run it where at static (sitting still) it has a slight rake forward. Under acceleration this will keep the chassis flatter while forcing the front down harder. Simple solution we use in full size buggy racing. Guaranteed it will translate.

And when we have visiting racers from different clubs visit they have to sign our code of conduct as well. Our club is small and we try to make it as family friendly as possible. Anyone who breaks the code of conduct is given 1 warning. After that they can be asked to leave.

Sometimes for tuning "opposites" is a good approach. Generally grip is a balance of bias, and if your rear is too planted you can try loosening it up which overall will give the front more bias. Try running 1 compound harder rear tires, for example. If you just want quicker steering, you might be able to just adjust some curves in your radio settings and increase the "curve" at which the steering input affects. Some people turn their steering down, you might need to turn yours up. Especially carpet there's so much grip that rarely are you going to lose control from loss of traction like in dirt.

They also need to have rentals for beginners at tracks. Need to attract newcomers. Also rc community is kinda toxic, full of snubs and “brand boys.” Experience hobbyists love to bash and talk down on fellow hobbyists when they don’t run the same brand especially entry level stuff. Also, manufacturers need to come up with a model and stick with it. Meaning keep it in production and part supports. You buy an rc model, and 2-3years later it is no longer supported. Traxxas is the only one that does this right, slash stampedes have been in production for more than a decade. But then again, RC snubs would bash on entry level products like slash/stampede…. not realizing, their hobby is alive because of entry level RC’s specially by Traxxas as they usually support their products for a long time.

Not a great fan of stock spec tbh, I feel it dilutes things, and you end up with loads of heats, with only a handful of cars in, if you're lucky. We run 2wd, 4wd and 'Trucks' (fun class, and RWYB, but mostly trucks), and works well. If you get new members rocking up, they turn up with 1/16 E revo's or even the plastic stuff out of Argos ,so at least they'll get track time in the Truck heat (with it being a fun heat, everyone gives new members room, or more often than not, the race win 🏆 ). 'Club cars' are brilliant though, and a club having a few spare cars ,for members of the public to use (with end point turned down), and also a few club Transponders. We've set it up, so cars can be booked online (helps us, have at least give them a quick once over, and charge a battery for them!)

(Hope this help with tire width)! Technically a wide tire gets you more rotation (turn in/out) and braking/acceleration - do to more friction. A narrow tire gives you more hold/grip - pressure over an area. Usually, you only go to a narrow tire if the car feels floaty or to responsive. (and you're right) a soft tire increasing pressure on (or grip). for this, usually, a wide tire with a soft compound works the best (kinda the best of both worlds) plus you gain tire life with wide tires - for there is less stress (more meat) on the tire.

I raced 1/8 cars for 11* years, 2009 to 2020. *few gaps and breaks. People at club level take club racing far to seriously... we had so many issues with "club committees" To many opinions that were always what they wanted so obviously they clashed, then they'd ask the general racers what to do and that just caused a spiral. I used to spend alot of time getting my cars ready before a race day so i never really had "issues" where as guys who didnt or were lazy had issues then they'd have a mental about their "pos" car breaking or whatever, those same guys if they didnt make the Big Afinal(talking nitro here) just left and we could hardly ever run the Afinal because we had no marshalls/pit guys. It got to the point where every 2nd person was boot-selling products and trying to sell products they ran so they got $$$ to fund their own racing... A club track MUST be run by 1 person or a LHS, it puts it down to: dont like it? dont come. related to above is less brands at the track. - this is probably the biggest cause of issues in RC beside EGO's. Back when i started, our track was dominated by kyosho cars other clubs up north were dominated by mugen as far as numbers go. - This is huge because It ment that spares and advice were high and a plenty. - in turn this also ment the Buggys were the best they could be due to R&D. Now if i go to the track, i bet every single person would be running a different car brand... no support from LHS for anyone. There is like 20+ race 1/8 buggys. absolutely stupid, no racing series in the world is like that. to many people biting at the pie. Engines are stupidly overpriced and undeveloped. RC is fueled badely by New stuff. O.s Speed engines with 21J carbs from 2010 are still the best engines but guess what.. not sold anymore. Rc Racing is fun, but the grown ass grumpy men ruin it.

Another good vid Kev. Thank you for bringing up the subject of people taking things way to serious in RC. I’m selling up all my 1/8 gear after a big falling out at my club. Basher time now I think

You 100% right Kev . I joined a rc boat club 7 years ago and I left because of the bullying and politics . So I left the club never joined again . And it has put me off to join another club . Very sad 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

Absolutely correct kev-o it's so unfortunate that a handful of manchilds ruin it for the rest of us it's next to impossible to avoid crashes and if you think otherwise you should stay at home at just build shelf queens because in racing it's a for sure going to happen and you are exactly 💯 on in what your saying bad eggs are ruining it for real RC enthusiasts

I race in the UK and I am help run my local club. RC racing has been growing over the last few years, along with the hobby side as well. Great to see. RC racing should be fun, but there is a flip side to everything. No, verbally abusing people isn't pleasant or correct. I have been on the receiving end of threatening comments in the past, but I have also raised my voice at other racers and marshal's with the odd 'c'mon' or 'it's behind you' when I'm t-boned or my cars not seen. Club racing is very different to regionals and bigger events in terms of rules. Local club events should be fun, but people are still racing and trying to improve. Marshaling well isn't easy, and I've seen races lost because marshals aren't paying attention but are quick to moan when they crash. I've also seen marshals put no effort into marshaling cars, deliberately and it's the most infuriating thing at the track. Clear rules at drivers briefings and referees at events stop a lot of the nonsense, or the race controller having a word if folk over step, but abusive behaviour can be very off putting. Not a quick fix, sadly. We're lucky at our club, it's a good friendly bunch.

Well said, so money races aren't legally allowed in RC racing here in the UK as far as I am aware. People do actually do this for a living, not so much here in the UK but certainly in America and Europe. Some people are rumoured to be getting paid up to 100k a year, plus getting to travel all over the world to race toy cars. Money races are a pretty common thing in the US. There is a world's type 8th buggy nitro event at Nemo Raceway here in the UK coming up in about two weeks time where some of the people being paid this type of money will be racing. I'm interested to go and watch to see what these huge events are like

Fine tune your suspension as well. Usually setting the rear toe in a little and the front toe out a bit more makes the biggest difference. Camber second most. Camber is also huge because when you’re going into a corner you need the tire flat once it goes into a corner from the load. Too much adjustment will make it more difficult to handle and control. Especially in a straight line. Balance is key. Lots of other good ideas in the comments and as others have said I would make small adjustments. One at a time. You should ask your nitro racing buddy. I bet he would have some good tips even though he mostly runs in dirt.

100% I used to race at my local Hobby Town club but a few guys took it so serious that they would yell at everyone and cuss out other drivers and marshals. Didn't want to spend my free time around it anymore, sold my race setup and stopped going.

Hey Kev, I might be able to help with your steering. If it's pushing and not turning, I'd start by either softening your front springs, or stiffening your rear springs. This will help with weight transfer to yhe front of the car. Then you can play with shock angles to fine tune it a little. On the other end, if you have all the grip in the world, but the car feels lazy (slow to respond), then you might want to stiffen up your front springs or sway bar. This will make the car more snappy, which is more useful on higher grip tracks.

just some simple ideas to try that you can do if you don't have spare parts to adjust like springs and oil move the camber link hole on the front to shorten it lower camber link on the inner position (front) lay down front shocks on the tower raise camber link on the inner position (rear)

Kevin I bought every color of these bad boys. SO much fun. And the customer service is impeccable. I’ve owned an embarrassing amount of RC’s, but especially the smalls. It’s quite possibly my favorite rtr sub 1:10 scale. Traxxas messed up! Folks were all waiting for (I was anyway haha) aa “TRX24” 2 speed 1:24! Such a huge chunk of market and they have zero presence. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I raced for over 25 years and it was the same when I began as it is today. Track owners are usually too busy to control everything thats going on at the track. Now thats its legal in a lot of places, smoking dope in the pits has become a problem! As racers we should help the tracks and police our fellow racers.

I used to play paintball all the time, and the same type of people ruined it for me too. The trouble is the venue needs to be on top of that behavior as well, and be mindful of the environment they're cultivating.

Alot of rc racing does coast money just to race. Our tracks around us is $10 to practice and then $20 to race for each racer. And with racing its easier to break your rc because of someone else not knowing how to drive

I recognize myself in this topic. I get nervous some times when i am at the pit beeing a mechanic, and also some times when marshalling. It got better after the intercom came. Its this behavior and fundings i only clubrace, and that is always fun. Its also the tight time frame that is stressing me to much. But i also had many good times when my club arrange a something bigger than a clubrace. Its enjoyable between all your tasks to watch the heats. I remember one time after a load of shit, that i went up to most of the drivers, telling them that they should be happy that somebody bothered to arrange anything. I assumed then that i where getting in a Big confrontation with some of the guys, but everyone kept quite. Next year it was a much better tone hole through the event.

More front camber will help the front grip in the corners. More front toe out will give you more responsive steering (turn in). You also might try corner weighting the car. If you are front heavy it will push (understeer).
